The Mine That Listens
North of Khardûm Veyr lies Stonewake — younger, quieter, and far more unsettling.
Stonewake was established after tremors revealed massive deposits of pale-grey crystal known as Wakeglass.
Unlike Veirstone, Wakeglass does not conduct heat.
It absorbs vibration.
The Phenomenon of Silence
When large sections of Wakeglass are exposed:
- Sound dulls unnaturally
- Footsteps feel distant
- Spoken words carry strangely
- Dreams become vivid among workers
Stonewake miners report:
- Feeling watched in silent tunnels
- Hearing conversations that stop when approached
- Tools shifting slightly when left unattended
Wakeglass is now used in:
- Anti-Aether containment chambers
- Rift-stabilization pylons
- The deeper vaults of Ironveil's capital
It is invaluable.
It is also feared.
