Chapter 35 - The Clash of Fire and Shadow

Lightning tore across the sky above the mountain, splitting the darkness for a heartbeat before thunder followed like the roar of the heavens.

Inside the ancient chamber, the air trembled with power.

On one side stood Aria and the dragon—fire glowing within its chest like a living sun.

On the other side stood Varic, now transformed by the Shadow Core. Darkness flowed around him like a storm that had taken human form.

For a moment, no one moved.

The silence before a war.

Then Varic smiled.

"You still believe you can stop me," he said calmly. His voice no longer sounded human. It echoed with something deeper… something ancient and cruel.

Aria tightened her grip on her sword.

Golden light from the pendant around her neck slowly spread across the blade, glowing brighter with every passing second.

"We don't believe," she said firmly.

"We know."

Varic chuckled softly.

"Confidence," he said. "How admirable."

Then his eyes flashed purple.

"But useless."

Without warning, he thrust his hand forward.A wave of shadow energy exploded from his palm, racing across the chamber like a dark tidal wave.

"Move!" Rowan shouted.

The dragon reacted instantly.

With a thunderous roar, it spread its wings and blasted a wall of fire toward the incoming darkness.

Fire and shadow collided in the center of the chamber.

The explosion shook the mountain.

Flames twisted against black energy, neither side willing to surrender.

Aria shielded her eyes as the blast of wind rushed past her.Stone cracked. Dust rained from the ceiling.

When the smoke cleared, Varic was already moving.

He shot forward through the air like a spear of darkness, heading straight for the dragon.

"Too slow!" he shouted.

But Aria was faster.

She dashed forward, her sword blazing with golden light.

"Not today!"

Their weapons met in midair.

CLANG!

The sound rang through the chamber like a bell of war.Varic's shadow blade pressed against Aria's sword, dark energy hissing where it touched the golden light.

Varic leaned closer, his glowing eyes studying her.

"You have spirit," he said quietly.

"Pity it will die here."

Aria pushed back with all her strength.

"You talk too much."

Behind her, the dragon opened its massive jaws.

Fire gathered deep within its throat.

"ARIA—DOWN!" Rowan shouted.

Aria instantly dropped. The dragon unleashed a blazing torrent of fire straight at Varic.

The flames swallowed him completely.

The chamber filled with blinding orange light.

For a moment… it seemed like it was over.

Rowan slowly exhaled.

"Okay," he muttered.

"That had to work."

But then—

the fire began to twist.

Darkness surged from within the flames.

And Varic stepped out of the inferno untouched.Shadow energy spiraled around him like armor.

"Did you truly think fire could defeat shadow?" he asked coldly.

Rowan groaned.

"Oh come on!"

Varic raised both hands.

The Shadow Core pulsed violently.

From the ground, spears of darkness erupted upward like black lightning.

Aria barely managed to leap aside.

The dragon smashed several with its claws, but more kept forming. The chamber was becoming a forest of shadow blades.

Rowan ducked behind a fallen pillar.

"New plan!" he shouted.

"Anybody have one?!"

Aria landed beside the dragon.

Her heart was racing.

But then she felt it again.

That connection.

The ancient bond between guardian and dragon.

The dragon lowered its head slightly toward her.

Its golden eyes met hers."We must strike together," its voice echoed in her mind.

Aria nodded slowly.

"Yes."

She stepped forward.

Varic watched them with amusement.

"Ah," he said.

"A final attempt."

The dragon's wings spread wide.

Fire burned brighter than ever before.

At the same time, Aria lifted her sword toward the sky.

The golden pendant around her neck flared like a star.Light flowed from the pendant into the blade.

The sword began to shine like pure sunlight.

Rowan peeked from behind the pillar.

"Oh… that looks promising."

Varic's expression finally darkened.

"What are you doing?"

Aria took a deep breath.

"Ending this."

The dragon roared.

A massive stream of fire exploded toward Varic. At the same moment, Aria ran forward through the flames, her glowing sword raised high.

Fire and light surged together.

Varic screamed in fury.

Shadow power erupted around him as he tried to block the attack.

The entire mountain shook.

Fire.

Light.

Shadow.

All three forces collided in a blinding explosion that lit the entire cavern like a second sun.Outside the mountain, the storm raged even harder.

Thunder roared across the sky.

And deep inside the ancient chamber—

the fate of the world hung in the balance
