Lightning split the sky above the mountain.
Thunder rolled across the peaks like the drums of an ancient war.
Inside the ruined chamber, the air burned with heat and shadow.
Aria stood at the center of it all, her sword blazing with living fire.
The flames were no longer just light.
They moved like they were alive—twisting around the blade, flowing with every breath she took.
Across the chamber stood Nocthar, the Shadow King.
Dark wings stretched behind him like a storm made of night itself.
Between them lay the battlefield.Broken stone.
Burned pillars.
And shadows slowly crawling across the floor like hungry creatures.
The dragon stepped beside Aria.
Its massive wings spread wide, fire glowing deep within its chest.
"You must strike the heart of his power," the dragon's voice echoed in Aria's mind.
"The shadow inside him."
Aria nodded slowly.
"I understand."
Behind them Rowan twirled the spear in his hand nervously."Just to confirm," he said, "we are fighting an ancient shadow king who almost destroyed the world before."
He paused.
"Because that sounds like something we should have practiced for."
Nocthar lifted his hand.
The shadows behind him twisted and rose like a black ocean.
"Your courage is admirable," he said calmly.
"But history has already chosen its ending."
Aria stepped forward.
"No."
She lifted the burning sword."We choose our own ending."
Nocthar's crimson eyes flashed.
"Then come."
The battle exploded into motion.
The dragon roared first.
A torrent of blazing fire burst from its jaws, rushing across the chamber like a river of flame.
Nocthar raised one hand.
The shadows surged upward, forming a wall of darkness.
Fire and shadow crashed together.
The impact shook the entire mountain.
Aria ran through the flames. Her sword left trails of burning light behind her.
She leaped forward and swung.
The blade cut through the shadows surrounding Nocthar.
Flames erupted where it struck.
Nocthar stepped back in surprise.
"Interesting."
He slashed his hand through the air.
Shadow blades shot toward her like spears.
Aria spun and blocked them with her flaming sword.
Each strike sent sparks flying across the chamber.Rowan jumped into the fight.
"Surprise attack!"
He threw his spear straight at Nocthar.
The Shadow King caught it easily in midair.
"…Really?" Nocthar said.
Rowan shrugged.
"Worth a try."
The dragon suddenly lunged forward.
Its massive claws slammed into the ground near Nocthar.
Stone shattered.
Fire exploded outward.Nocthar vanished into the shadows just before the attack landed.
He reappeared high above the chamber.
Floating.
Dark wings spread across the air.
"You cannot win," he said.
His voice echoed through the entire mountain.
"I am the night itself."
The shadows around him grew larger.
Darker.
They twisted together until they formed something massive behind him.
A giant creature made entirely of darkness.A shadow dragon.
Rowan stared upward.
"Oh come on."
"That's cheating again."
The shadow dragon roared.
Its mouth opened—
and pure darkness blasted downward.
The dragon pushed Aria aside just in time.
The blast struck the ground.
The chamber exploded with debris.
Aria rolled across the broken stone and quickly stood again.
Her heart pounded in her chest.Nocthar was stronger than she expected.
Stronger than anything she had ever faced.
But then she heard the dragon's voice again.
"Aria… listen."
She looked up.
"Your flame is not just power."
"It is memory."
Aria frowned.
"What does that mean?"
The dragon's eyes glowed brighter.
"The First Flame is the light of every guardian before you."
Aria suddenly understood. The warmth inside her chest wasn't just energy.
It was something deeper.
Something ancient.
She closed her eyes for a moment.
And felt it.
The voices of the past.
The warriors who fought before her.
The dragon riders.
The guardians.
All of them.
The flame in her sword burned brighter.
Rowan noticed it immediately."Uh… Aria?"
"You're glowing again."
She opened her eyes.
Golden fire reflected in them.
"Nocthar," she called.
The Shadow King looked down.
"Yes?"
Aria raised the flaming sword.
"You said my ancestor died."
Nocthar smiled slightly.
"She did."
Aria nodded."But she stopped you."
The flames around her grew stronger.
"And this time…"
She stepped forward.
"…we finish the job."
Nocthar's expression hardened.
"Enough."
The shadow dragon behind him lunged downward.
Its jaws opened wide.
Darkness rushed toward Aria like a storm.
But the dragon beside her roared in response.Fire exploded from its chest.
Aria ran forward through the flames.
Straight toward the shadow dragon.
Rowan shouted behind her.
"THAT SEEMS LIKE A BAD PLAN!"
Aria leaped.
Her sword burned brighter than the sun.
The blade cut straight through the shadow dragon's head.
Flame erupted through the darkness.
The creature shattered into smoke.
Nocthar's eyes widened.Aria landed on the ground.
Then she ran again.
Straight toward him.
Nocthar raised both hands.
Shadows gathered around him like a hurricane.
"Then die with the rest of them!"
He fired a massive blast of darkness.
Aria didn't stop.
The dragon roared behind her and launched its final attack.
A beam of pure dragonfire surged across the chamber.
Fire and shadow collided again. But this time—
Aria jumped straight through the explosion.
Her sword blazing brighter than ever.
Nocthar realized too late what she was doing.
His eyes widened.
"Impossible—"
Aria swung the blade.
The flaming sword pierced straight through his chest.
Light exploded outward.
The entire chamber filled with golden fire.
Nocthar screamed. The shadows around him began to break apart.
"No… this cannot happen again…"
Aria held the sword firmly.
"The world belongs to the living," she said.
"Nocthar."
"For the last time…"
"Burn."
The First Flame erupted from the blade.
A pillar of blazing light shot through the roof of the mountain and into the storm above.
The sky itself seemed to ignite.
Nocthar's body shattered into fragments of darkness. The shadow king let out one final roar—
And then he was gone.
The storm outside slowly began to fade.
Silence returned to the chamber.
Aria dropped to one knee.
The flames on her sword slowly faded.
Rowan walked over carefully.
"…Is he gone?"
The dragon lowered its massive head.
"Yes."
Rowan let out a long breath.
"Good."He looked around the destroyed chamber.
"Because I am never doing that again."
Aria smiled weakly.
Above them, the clouds slowly parted.
Sunlight finally touched the mountain again.
The war of shadows had ended.
And the flame had won. 🔥📖
