"Oh my-! Look at the time… I should take my leave now. You better be careful as well, Mr. Fenrir. It would be a shame if something were to happen to someone as brilliant as you."
Mr. Yang left the Happy Smile Business with those last ominous words. His warning echoed inside Daniel's mind, but alas, there was not much he could do about it.
He had tried installing security cameras around his office and home, but people kept breaking them apart. So he stopped after a while because he did not have money to keep buying more and replacing them again and again.
Besides, he was known as a 'poor business' in the neighbourhood with some 'scary connections.' So people usually left him alone. That was why he liked this place and wanted to stay here for much longer.
And to do that, he needed to do his best.
"I better pay my rent on time. Now, where is my phone…?"
Daniel reached for his phone and transferred the money to the owner of this establishment. After that, he went back to sleep.
After all, he had a lot of free time before another customer was to show up. And that gave him more than enough time to set up a meeting in order to pay this money to Boss Ren.
'With this, another million is off that 30 million debt. I have repaid 3 million so far. Ugh, the end goal feels so far away…'
But worrying about it was not going to make things magically better. So Daniel closed his eyes and went to sleep. Last night had exhausted him, and he wanted to refresh himself with a quick nap.
That quick nap turned into a five-hour deep sleep, and he was only woken up by a loud banging noise at his door.
Being woken up like this made Daniel's head hurt. His body felt sluggish, and he forcefully moved it.
'The side effects of that pseudo-heat are still lingering in my body. I better be careful for a while.'
Unfortunately, the people on the other side of his door did not want him to be patient. The door almost broke down, and Daniel decided to take action before another expense could be added to his list of 'things he needed to fix ASAP.'
"Ugh, who is the crazy person who keeps trying to knock down my door? Don't you know how costly service is in these parts-"
Daniel opened the door, and his hard-earned instincts made him dodge the incoming attack instantly.
"You bastard-! Did you truly think you would be able to get away with it? Our boss got captured because of you, and we were forced to disband…! I am never going to forgive you for this."
The man with the crowbar spoke as he smacked it against the wall. That left a dent in the wall, but because the construction was solid, no real damage occurred.
Most homes near and around gang areas were built like that so that they would not suffer much damage after a dangerous fight. And right now, that has saved Daniel a lot of money on repairs.
Daniel looked at the thugs and tried to recall where they might be from. But truthfully, he could not recall.
He had taken a few odd jobs here and there that were related to gangs and the mafia when he was in desperate need of money, but he had not looked too much into it all. If one of his jobs had caused a gang to dissolve, then he had not been informed.
The only 'real dissolvement' that came to his mind was from the last mission. But he doubted he would get a visit from that dissolved gang. After all, the real power behind that dissolvement was Ivan and not Daniel.
"Hey, where are you looking? Keep your eyes on me, you brat. I want to see your expression of agony as I remind you why messing with me was not a good idea."
The grumpy man in front of the group spoke with confidence. He stepped forward, and his half-lazy eyes looked at Daniel with anger.
The grumpy elder male was the only one exuding pheromones among the dozen or so people in front of Daniel, and he was also the one who smacked his crowbar against the wall to intimidate him as well.
'Ugh, that wall might be sturdy, but it is not made to take on so many attacks by the crowbar either. I better put an end to all this before I am forced to spend more money than I can afford this month.'
Daniel quickly stepped out with a completely calm face. He looked at the alpha in front of him and sighed at the situation.
"Are you not ashamed to come here and threaten a young beta like me who has never offended you? I don't recall ever meeting you, much less causing your gang to get dissolved. But if you continue to be like this, then I will have no choice but to call the police."
Daniel's words poured fuel into the fire. The man in front of him gritted his teeth and decided he could not take it anymore.
"Ugh, that is it-! I am going to bash your head in, you little brat. Get ready-"
The crowbar headed toward Daniel's head, and he quickly caught the alpha's wrist.
As an omega who was pumped full of medicine to hide his designation, Daniel lacked the proper strength to take the fight head-on. But he still had more than a few ways to take this man down.
Daniel's training kicked in within seconds of sensing danger, and before he knew it, he had the alpha on the ground, with his arms pulled behind his back and his chest against the ground.
"Hey, let me go-! How dare you-! Do you have any idea who I am…?"
The alpha questioned from his position on the ground. He might be trying to act tough, but all Daniel saw at the moment was a pathetic man trying his best to make Daniel let go of him.
"Sir, should we help you…?"
One of the goons asked the fallen alpha, and it made his face flush red.
"You idiot-! I don't need help from the likes of you. Do you really think a beta like this can overpower me? I can easily-"
Daniel was quick to notice something weird about the man he was currently holding captive. He was getting angry, but his pheromones seemed really stable. Usually, a person's pheromones fluctuate when their emotions change, and it indicates how they are feeling.
It is possible to hide pheromones and keep them stable during high emotional outbursts, but it requires a lot of practice. Somehow, Daniel doubted the man he was holding captive had such impressive training.
'How suspicious… Is this man even an alpha?'
The doubt quickly crept inside Daniel's mind, and another possibility took root.
"Hey, are you using medicine to give off alpha pheromones? They don't feel stable-"
"Shut up-! What would a beta like you know? Or… don't tell me… I see! So you are the same as me. Did you use medicine to turn yourself into an alpha as well? But I can barely sense anything from you. You must be a failed alpha… hahaha…"
The man under Daniel's foot seemed to be losing his mind and making things up now. He was in a state where he would not hear anything Daniel was about to say to him.
So Daniel did not see a point in defending himself either and only let out a disappointed sigh. He turned to look at the betas following behind this stupid man and decided to give them a chance.
"What are you all going to do? You can either head back now or get caught by the police. It is your choice."
In the end, the gang ran away, and Daniel even gave them their unstable member back. He also made sure to file a police complaint and get a restraining order against these people for future use.
Once that was settled, Daniel truly felt drained. And the day had barely begun for him.
"Ugh, for the first time in a long while, I hope I do not get any annoying customers."

Joshua threw the half-dead body of the 'rat' toward Ivan, and the unconscious man fell inches away from the Enigma's feet.
But not only did Ivan ignore that man, but he also stepped over him to get to the other side and sit on the sofa.
The atmosphere of the bar had become tense the second he had entered, and everyone was paying attention to him and Joshua. They had chosen a busy bar as a deliberate move to draw their enemies out, and it had worked.
"I see. So, what did you manage to find?"
