Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: The Price of Paranoia

Flashback

"How can I break his guard? This is frustrating," Damon thought while he himself did not lower his guard.

Just when that thought crossed his mind by fate, he saw an opening in his rival's guard. He did not think twice and tried to attack… bad move.

He quickly launched the attack trying to exploit that error, but something happened that he did not even see. The moment his sword was about to touch his rival, the woman spun around, dodging Damon's blade, and struck him with an elbow to the nose, breaking it instantly and leaving him in shock since he did not expect that. He lowered his guard completely. A second later he could feel cold steel on his neck, which made him drop his weapon and grab his nose.

"I give up" he said while raising his other hand. "This hurts a lot. You could at least hit a little softer" he added with a frown.

"That way you will learn better from the mistakes you make" Amaterasu said while moving Damon's hand away from his nose to examine the wound, which quickly began to heal.

"When you see an opening, it could be a trap" Amaterasu scolded while continuing to heal the wound.

"I learned that the hard way, if not just ask my nose" Damon said sarcastically, receiving a smile from Amaterasu. "I thought you were going to train me, not beat me constantly" Damon added while looking carefully at Amaterasu.

"First I have to see what you are capable of, then correct the mistakes I see you make, and finally teach you" she said while locking eyes with Damon, who sighed in agreement.

"Hai Sensei" Damon said in a playful tone trying to annoy Amaterasu, who responded by giving him a small hit on the head.

Quickly she turned around, moving a little away from him to hide a small smile and said, "Let's continue. Three years is nothing, they pass very quickly and I have a lot to teach you."

End Flashback

When that memory came to his mind, he began to plan. He subtly sent two tornadoes into Kronos's path to keep him separated from Atlas and Damon, and then he deliberately left a small opening so it would not look like a trap. He watched as Atlas took the bait.

A small smile appeared on Atlas's face, who did not hesitate and moved together with Kronos, who also noticed the opening. But Kronos was suddenly stopped by the twin tornadoes, something that immediately set off his alarm.

"ATLAS, IT'S A TRAP!" Kronos shouted trying to stop Atlas.

Too late.

Atlas was already too close to Damon with his guard completely broken from charging an attack, which Damon easily dodged. Immediately afterward, infusing his katana with the destructive affinity, he delivered a very deep cut to Atlas's stomach with his katana, which made him bend over from the pain of the wound. He quickly received a punch to the face that was propelled by the air itself.

The impact was devastating: it broke both his nose and part of his jaw with a single blow, sending him flying towards the Cyclopes and Hecantons…(so fcking hard writing these names) who quickly surrounded him to prevent him from standing up again.

While Damon created chains from his power that coiled around the Titan, under nature's blessing, trees burst from the earth. Infused with his energy, they wrapped around the Titan's limbs and began absorbing its monstrous power. Damon had discovered this ability through countless trials... and once again, he thanked Gaia for it.

Seeing his current state, the cyclops doubted very much that he could stand up again because of how serious the wound in his stomach seemed. Even though he was immortal, it would not kill him, it would simply restrain him.

Damon turned around to face Kronos, who was trembling with rage. All his allies had fled or were out of combat. Only Kronos remained standing, and he was now at a disadvantage. The moment their gazes met, the wild wind across the battlefield disappeared. The tornadoes vanished, and the hurricane dissipated as quickly as it had appeared. It seemed as if the air itself had disappeared from the entire area. The cause of it all was Damon.

"You can't hide behind anyone anymore" Damon said seriously.

"I was never hiding. You simply are not worthy enough to face me" Kronos replied, with clear anger in his voice.

"Someone who isn't worthy is about to shove your ego up your ass" Damon said, mocking Kronos.

The final battle of this war began. Every previous tremor seemed insignificant compared to what was happening now. It felt as if the earth itself was about to collapse from the earthquakes caused by their clash. This battle was on another level. All the spectators were stunned by the incredible fight they were witnessing. And it wasn't only the brothers and the giants—there were other hidden presences watching from afar as they saw how a war was about to end, and it did not seem like it would end well for the Titans.

Hours passed, leaving terrible consequences for the surrounding nature. This battle would leave a desert wasteland where no vegetation could survive. Fatigue began to appear in both fighters. Their blows weakened, and their guards became less solid. Slowly Kronos began losing ground. But Damon learned more things from his only master—impatience. He was growing tired of this fight. He wanted to finish it and finally do what he wanted without worrying about the lives of those he cared about.

An idea crossed his mind. A very good one, but also risky. Quickly he raised his hand toward Zeus, something that confused him slightly. Zeus felt something pulling his lightning bolt from his hand. Damon seized it and it flew toward him at blinding speed before Zeus could even react.

"This is about to end, Kronos.

Honestly, I never wanted your throne and I never will. It's too much responsibility for me. I don't want to rule anyone. I simply want to live in peace. But your paranoia brought us to this situation. Eating us was a mistake you will pay for the rest of your life. You tried to take away my freedom simply for being born, and when I finally gained the freedom I always wanted you threatened the people I care about in order to force me back into captivity. Your mistake was not being ruthless… your mistake was not killing me when you had the chance" Damon said without even looking at him. His gaze was fixed on the lightning bolt in his hand as he played with it.

"You can still stop this. If what you want is for me to leave your brothers alone, I will do it. But who do you think would rule better than me?" Kronos said desperately, trying to convince Damon since he could not defeat him.

"Even a rock would rule better than you" Damon said while raising the lightning bolt and pointing it at Kronos. (Zeus, you're worse than a damn rock, look at that.)

The skies darkened with black clouds as lightning illuminated the entire area. The moment Damon raised the master bolt, the most powerful lightning strike ever seen shot down from the heavens, piercing Kronos. He could not keep his body standing and had to kneel before Damon. Still stunned and badly wounded from the lightning, he lifted his gaze to see Damon approaching him. As Damon released the lightning bolt, it shot back toward Zeus. He sheathed his katana and relaxed his body completely, letting the sword hang from his arm as he walked toward Kronos.

Just when Kronos was about to speak, Damon disappeared from everyone's sight. Kronos began to see his vision splitting as he realized he had been cut vertically in two. Before his body could fully separate, he felt another cut, this time across his stomach, separating his torso from his legs and dividing his body into four sections.

Two more cuts followed, further separating the pieces of his body. As each part separated, his enormous form slowly began shrinking. But none of the pieces touched the ground—Damon used the air to keep them suspended. Then he delivered the final cut, across the entire neck, separating Kronos's head from his body.
