Chapter 11 - A Sudden Attack

When the great Immortal returned to the heavens, the workers immediately went back to work.

Bah Long and Sor Sogon relayed orders to the armored soldiers to watch over the food The Great Immortal Zudra had bestowed.

The soldiers immediately dashed off and encircled the large mountain of provisions, seeing the enormous heavenly rations, they couldn't helped feeling tempted on consuming the celestial food.

But despite of how much their stomachs growled, they couldn't dare ravage the Heavenly rations personally bestowed by The Heavenly Lord Zudra.

Even thinking about it stirred some unease into their hearts, they banged their foreheads frantically until they swelled and small bumps appeared.

Seeing the discipline, Sor Sogon and Bah Long realized they did not need to watch over their own people ravaging the Heavenly food without permission, so instead, they turned their gaze went to the construction site to oversee the constructions progress.

Soon, large pillars came into view, stones and wood were delivered constantly and hauled, workers hammered nails onto wooden frames, the sound of clanging metal traveled across the entire field.

Bah Long and Sor Sogon approached the engineer.

"How is progress going along?" Bah Long asked.

"Reporting to the overseer," the engineer replied, his body straight and refind, voice steady and confident" progress is doing good, with this much workers, we've finished laying the layout of the project."

Bah Long swept his gaze onto the working crowd, sweat poured from their backs, their skin darkened by the sun, but it did not slow them down.

Seeing this, Bah Long let out a long sigh, expression calm and relaxed.

The two turned around and walk in a straight line, disappearing into the distance.

The village continued it's usual routine, men worked tirelessly, childrens played and ran around like normal childrens in the modern world, women washed the sweat-dirtied clothes of their husbands, while those who have nothing to do spread stories and rumors like veteran entertainers.

Even though war and chaos has ravaged the lands, where soldiers slashed and hacked each other to the death, where generals and military officers drained their minds on strategy and how to stay alive.

One village remained untouched amidst the chaos, like destruction and war where only a fantasy and a luxury they couldn't afford.

Here, people lived peacefully, specially the two officers who had been personally appointed as overseers by a Celestial God.

The two officers stood at a river bank, staring at the clear water flowing endlessly toward the horizon.

They were peacefully admiring the beautiful scenery of nature when an armored figure suddenly appeared in the distance.

Sor Sogon narrowed his vission, identifying the figure as one of his men.

His men had followed him for hundreds of miles, they traveled together through mountains and treacherous terrains, he can recognice them at a single glance even from afar.

Even though Sor Sogon and his men had no real military experience or any proper training, traveling through countless mountains had build up their knowledge and unlocked the basic fundamentals of scouting.

When he had sent his men to the mountains to seek the hiding refugees, he had let them stay there to monitor the surroundings and inform them in advance in case of sudden attacks.

The armored scout arrived before the two officer, panting and barely catching his breath.

The armored scout wore a dark expression, both fear and dread visible on his face.

After a moment of silence, once the scout recovered slightly from his struggle of regaining strength, he spoke to the two officers in front of him in a fast, frantic voice.

"Reporting to Boss Sor Sogon!" the scout said in a weary voice, catching his breath at every pause, " An army has appeared to the south, they appear to be a detachment of the southern army, about four or five hundred strong."

The two officers felt their body as if struck by lightning, fear filled their eyes while thinking on how to handle such an army.

The village has a population of over four thousand, including the newly-arrived refugees, yet zero percent of them are soldiers, they only know how to wield hoes or hammers, even Sor Sogon's armored men had no real miltary experience, facing a real army is like a toddler facing a full grown adult.

When the news traveled onto the village, the villagers instantly fell into chaos, panic spread across the village like wildfire as workers immediately stopped their work and sprinted toward the Immortal Mansions bestowed by the Celestial Lord.

The women reacted no less, they dropped the clothes they were washing earlier onto the river, the flowing water took them as if they were offerings.

They cramped inside the Immortal Mansions, holding any kind of tools and equipments that could be used as a weapon.

Fear crawled to their skins as they held their loved ones tighter while they cramped inside the crowded house.

Sor Sogon was no different, he wanted to hide among the panicking crowd, but his title as an officer pulled him back to reality.

It was his responsibility to face the upcoming army.
