"You must be in a hurry."
I jumped slightly. That voice...
"Ah, yes. A little... bit."
"Hello again."
"Hello, Sir." I felt a flush of heat creep up my neck.
Me and my damned luck. Today I learned a very important lesson about leaving the office. I should leave exactly on time if I want to avoid these awkward encounters.
"Are you meeting someone? It's rare for you not to greet anyone at the elevator."
"Uh—yeah, a friend." I shifted my weight, feeling the heat rise in my cheeks as I avoided his piercing gaze. "I forgot and focused too much on my job. I didn't even notice it had got this late."
"I see."
"And Miss Lee?" I asked, trying to steer the conversation away from my own poor time management. "Did she already go home?"
"She's waiting for me in the car park. Her day ends after sending me home."
