Chapter 25 - Guardian Awakens

Darkness covered the academy like a living shadow.

For a few seconds, no one moved.

No lights.

No sound.

Only the deep vibration rising from underground — slow, heavy… alive.

Then emergency alarms exploded across the campus.

Red warning lights flickered on, painting everything in crimson.

Mira grabbed Arjun's arm.

Did you feel that?

Before he could answer, the ground shook violently. Cracks spread across the rooftop floor like lightning.

Kael steadied himself against the wall.

Okay… that's definitely not normal academy business.

Lyra closed her eyes briefly, as if listening to something far away.

Seal integrity… collapsing, she whispered.

Arjun frowned.

Seal?

Lyra opened her eyes.

This academy was not built for education alone. It was built to watch… and contain.

A loud explosion echoed below.

Dust shot upward from the central courtyard as stone tiles shattered outward.

Students screamed.

Teachers rushed people toward evacuation zones.

But the shaking didn't stop.

Arjun suddenly saw flashes again — visions forcing themselves into his mind.

Ancient pillars.

Chains made of glowing symbols.

A gigantic figure sleeping beneath layers of earth.

Its heartbeat matched the tremors.

Boom.

Boom.

Boom.

He staggered.

It knows I'm here.

Mira's voice trembled.

What knows?

Arjun looked toward the courtyard.

The Guardian.

At that exact moment, the ground collapsed inward.

A massive pillar of stone erupted upward, breaking through the academy center. Dust clouds swallowed the air as ancient structures rose from underground — structures far older than the city itself.

Symbols burned across the stone surface, glowing gold and blue.

Kael stared wide-eyed.

That thing was under our school this whole time?

Lyra nodded.

Every great civilization hides its fears beneath foundations.

The symbols suddenly flickered.

One by one… they went dark.

A deep roar echoed — not angry, not wild.

Ancient.

Awake.

From the shattered courtyard, a colossal hand of stone slowly emerged, covered in glowing cracks like molten light trapped inside rock.

Students froze in terror.

Some fell to their knees without understanding why.

Pressure filled the air, heavy enough to make breathing difficult.

Arjun felt it differently.

Not fear.

Recognition.

The massive figure continued rising — a giant humanoid form made of ancient stone armor, eyes closed, chains of light wrapped around its body.

Then its eyes opened.

Golden.

They locked directly onto Arjun.

Everything else faded.

Noise disappeared.

Time slowed.

Inside his mind, a voice echoed — deep and endless.

You remain… Unwritten One.

Arjun's breath stopped.

You know me?

The voice answered without sound.

You were erased… yet stand. Therefore judgment is required.

Pain surged through his chest as a symbol briefly appeared over his heart, glowing faintly.

Lyra stepped forward urgently.

Do not resist. Guardians judge existence itself.

Kael muttered.

Yeah, super comforting advice right now.

The Guardian lifted one enormous arm toward Arjun.

Energy gathered around its palm, bending the air.

Mira stepped in front of Arjun instinctively.

You're not touching him!

The Guardian paused.

For the first time, emotion flickered across its glowing eyes.

Protection instinct detected.

Arjun gently moved Mira aside.

No… this is about me.

He stepped forward.

Wind spiraled around him as fragments of light appeared again — the same energy from the sky fracture.

The Guardian spoke once more.

If you are error… you will be erased.

If you are evolution… you will awaken.

The energy in its hand intensified.

The entire academy held its breath.

Arjun closed his eyes.

Fine, he whispered.

Then judge me.

A blinding flash exploded across the courtyard.

Light swallowed everything.

And far above the city, the sky cracked again — wider this time.
