Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Ye Shin Ye's First Lesson.

"You-" the other maids said as they tried to push Ye Shin Ye away from the other maid but Shen Xiatang chuckled and said "Push the maid you are currently holding to the ground and pick up sand in your hand."

Ye Shin Ye did as Shen Xiatang ordered immediately and with her intuition she threw the sand at the other two maids.

"Good." Shen Xiatang said with pride and Ye Shin Ye beamed evilly.

"Now that they are dazed, pull on the left leg of both maids and the both of them will come tumbling down." Shen Xiatang said and Ye Shin Ye did as she commanded.

"Pick up more sand and throw it at their faces and say these words that I tell you." said Shen Xiatang.

"Am" said Shen Xiatang.

"Am" said Ye Shin Ye.

"I" said Shen Xiatang.

"I" said Ye Shin Ye.

"Easy to bully?" Shen Xiatang and Ye Shin Ye asked at the same time with a cruel smile.

Screaming in terror, the three maids backed away from Ye Shin Ye and ran down the hill.

Wanting to thank the woman they helped her, Ye Shin Ye turned around to say thank you only to stop short when she realized no one was there.

"Did I imagine that?" Ye Shin Ye asked aloud.

"So she can't see me then?" Shen Xiatang asked with a hum and Ye Shin Ye raised her head to see who as talking.

"I knew it was a stroke of luck." Shen Xiatang said as she laid down on her back in the air.

"But she listened to my instructions so that's good." Shen Xiatang said as she swam backwards.

"But what to do, those people will surely come back in the morning to make trouble." Shen Xiatang said with a sigh.

"They will?" Ye Shin Ye asked timidly as she picked up her bedsheets and Shen Xiatang jumped with her hand on her chest.

"Has this girl gone mad?" Shen Xiatang asked as she floated towards Ye Shin Ye.

"Who is she talking to?" Shen Xiatang asked in confusion as Ye Shin Ye stepped into her cold dreary room.

"Could it be that I messed with her mind from that brief interaction?" Shen Xiatang asked as Ye Shin Ye struck steel against a flint to light a fire.

"If she can't even handle this," Shen Xiatang said in frustration as Ye Shin Ye lit the candle made of beeswax in her room.

"How will I get my revenge?!" Shen Xiatang cried in despair.

"I assure you that there is nothing wrong with me." Ye Shin Ye said with a smile as she turned to the direction of Shen Xiatang's voice and Shen Xiatang jumped with her hand on her chest again.

"Impossible!" Shen Xiatang said as she looked at Ye Shin Ye with curious eyes.

"She couldn't hear me before, how could she suddenly hear me now?" Shen Xiatang asked in confusion.

"She must have run mad." Shen Xiatang said with a firm nod of her head.

"I really am fine" Ye Shin Ye said with a chuckle as she knelt down.

"And I want to thank you for your instructions this night" Ye Shin Ye said as she gave a proper bow.

"Little girl, do you know who you are thanking?" Shen Xiatang asked Ye Shin Ye in order to see her conviction.

"I don't care!" Ye Shin Ye said firmly.

"Anyone that can help me stand up for myself is worth thanking." Ye Shin Ye said and Shen Xiatang smiled a bright smile.

"Then get ready then." Shen Xiatang said and Ye Shin Ye raised her head.

"Because this is only the beginning." Shen Xiatang said with a sly smile.

The next morning the steward marched down to Ye Shin Ye's living quarters with the clueless old monk.

Pushing up the door without waiting for Ye Shin Ye to allow her in, the steward began complaining to the old monk.

"I tried my best to educate her and assign tasks suited to her strength but who would have known that the young Miss could be so ruthless to take out her anger on not one but three poor maids." the steward said with a wail.

"She-" the steward pointed to Ye Shin Ye who stood in front of her bed silently.

"Bullied those poor maids so badly that they couldn't even speak about the injustice they faced. That is why this poor steward had no choice but to bring this matter to your attention." The steward said pitifully.

Turning to Ye Shin Ye who stood in front of her bed silently, the old man sighed before speaking.

"Miss Ye, my first judgement of you is that you were a kind and virtuous soul but what is this awful report I am receiving?" The old monk asked Ye Shin Ye in disappointment.

"Did you really bully the maids just as the steward says?" The old monk asked Ye Shin Ye as he stared her straight in the eyes.

Kneeling down immediately and raising her hands to her bowed head Ye Shin Ye said "Ye Shin Ye hopes that the great Abbot master can get justice for her."

"Justice?" the old monk asked in confusion at the same time the steward looked at her in shock.

"Ever since Ye Shin Ye stepped into the monastery, Ye Shin Ye has done nothing but be subject to mocking and bad rumors from the steward and the maids of the monastery." Ye Shin Ye said pitifully and the old monk snapped his head towards the steward in shock.

"Is what she says true?" The old monk asked the steward in shock but Ye Shin Ye kept on talking.

"The first thing they did the minute you were out of sight was to forcefully strip me of my family heirlooms and seize them." Ye Shin Ye said pitifully and the head monk shouted "Anyone there" in anger.

Hearing the anger in the old monk's tone, a young maid rushed into the room.

"Go to the steward's living quarters and look for any piece of extravagant jewelry. Look with clear eyes and report honestly. Even if no one else sees your thoughts, the law of karma does." The old monk warned the young maid and the young maid nodded quickly before disappearing.

Minutes after the young maid disappeared, the young maid reappeared with all the pieces of jewelry the head monk remembered seeing on Ye Shin Ye and the old monk glared at the steward in anger.

"Jingxiu, explain yourself!" The old monk said in anger and the steward quickly knelt down in panic.

"It is not as it appears, master." the steward said quickly.

"I was just keeping them for her so she would not be tempted by worldly possessions." the steward said, as she tried to come up with an excuse.

"Silence!" the old monk yelled and the steward shut her mouth immediately.

"You brought me here with a false claim on this poor soul while you were the one in the wrong?!" the old monk asked in disappointment.

"I didn't, I didn't." the steward shook her head as she tried to explain herself.

"The young Miss really did bully three poor maids." The steward said in her defense.

"Anyone there." the old monk said and the young maid appeared again.

"Go and bring the three maids the steward speaks of." the old monk said and the young maid nodded before going to do as the old monk commanded.
