Chapter 9 - Terms and Conditions

Damian's POV

I crossed my arms and slowly sat on my chair. I straightened my back and looked at Celeste, who was now sitting in front of me.

"What the hell are you doing here, Celeste?" I asked her directly, meeting her eyes.

"What do you mean, Damian?" She was obviously trying to act innocent in front of me, but she failed. I already knew how sly and brat she was.

"What the hell are you doing here, Celeste?" I asked her again, gritting my teeth.

She stared at me in disbelief.

"Stop playing innocent in front of me and answer the goddamn question," I firmly told her, making sure she knew I was impatient.

She just rolled her eyes at me and stood her ground, unbothered by my anger.

"Are you seriously asking me that, Damian? I found out that my fiance is secretly dating one of his employees, and you're expecting me to stay in France, sitting pretty?" She launched into a long explanation, her voice sharp with annoyance.

I laughed sarcastically. Now it was my turn to look at her in disbelief.

"You're not seriously taking this goddamn marriage, right Celeste?"

She didn't answer. She just looked at me like she was about to cry, but I didn't give a damn. She fucking messed with my Sierra earlier, and I wouldn't let it slide.

"I only agreed to this nonsense marriage because you kept annoying me. You kept stalking me. And you kept dragging our families into your bullshit desperation." I stared at her intently, making sure every word I uttered would hurt her.

"The only thing that made you convince my grandmother is because you're the heir of one of the richest families here in the country. Go fly back to France, Celeste. Stop bothering me cause I will make sure I don't marry a psychotic person like you," I told her at length, watching a tear fall on her cheeks.

"That woman abandoned you before. And she will again," she tried to challenge me.

"She's in a coma, Celeste. Now it's time for you to leave. Leave Sierra alone," I said in a hard tone, making it clear that her time annoying me was over.

She didn't say anything. She stared at me for a second before turning her back and leaving my office.

I leaned my back and wiped my face with my palms. I didn't know what to do now. I hadn't explained everything to Sierra.

I reached my phone on the table and opened my texts. I saw a lot of texts and missed calls from Sierra.

She was asking if I was okay. She was telling me to eat and rest. She was saying it was okay and to take my time, and that she was just there whenever I needed her. She told me everything would be okay and that I had to hang on. But she never asked what was happening to me. To us.

Guilt consumed me. I had just told her we'd make up to each other, and here we were. I had just created a problem in our relationship right when she just woke up.

Everything felt wrong.

But I had to protect her. I had to protect Sierra whatever happened.

I dialed my secretary's number.

["Yes, Mr. CEO?"]

"Tell Grandma that I have to meet her tonight," I didn't wait for his reply and ended the call immediately.

I had to talk to Grandma about Celeste. I had to work this out for Sierra.

I look at Grandma silently eating. I didn't have parents anymore. They both got into an accident when I was young, and Grandma was the one who raised me.

"Grandma…" I called her in a low voice, but loud enough for her to hear it.

"Spit it out already, my dear. I can't read your mind." She answered me calmly without even looking at me.

"I… I want to stop the marriage between Celeste and I, Grandmother." I hesitantly told her the exact reason I'd asked to meet.

I was scared she would be disappointed in me, but I had to do this for Sierra. I was willing to do anything.

She stopped eating and slowly looked at me, her face expressionless.

"But why? It's a huge advantage for us," she just said and continued eating again.

"But Grandma, she's back," I said, pertaining to Sierra. She knew her from when I lost myself during her disappearance.

She looked at me stunned.

"Didn't she leave you before? Aren't you stupid right now, Damian?"

"No, she did not." I shook my head.

"What do you mean?" She asked, confused.

"She fell into a coma when I thought she abandoned me. She just woke up, Grandma. And she is still the same as before she went to sleep. I don't want to lose her this time." I gave her a long and genuine explanation, hoping for her to understand my feelings.

"Oh!" She gently wiped her mouth and looked at me again.

"But it's not that easy, my dear. If I suddenly stop your marriage with Moreau, it's the same as trying to mess with them. We might get into war." Her deep stare made me lower my eyes.

"I know you can do it, Grandma. Please." I begged. I look at her again, full of desperation.

She looked at me for a second and nodded her head repeatedly, signaling that she understood my decision.

"In one condition." She surrendered, looking at me intently like she was trying to challenge me.

I met her gaze confidently, assuring her I wasn't giving up.

"I'll do whatever it is," I strongly challenged her back.

"If you meet the company's revenue target this month, I'll take care of everything to stop the marriage. You have to show that you don't need the Moreau group to stand. If you prove yourself, I'll call off the marriage."

"Deal?" She asked after laying out her condition.

"Deal." A slow, confident smirk spread across my face.

"Consider it done, Grandmother." I stood up, my chair scraping against the marble floor and left.
