The house was unusually quiet
For a second I thought no one was home
Until I heard a
Soft sniff
I froze
Jay was sitting on the couch , knees pulled tightly to her chest , head lowered. The small lamp beside her cast a gentle glow over her tear streaked face . Her shoulders shook slightly and her fingers twisted in the sleeves of her hoodie
She didn't see me
" I'm so stupid " she whispered
My chest tightened
" why do I always do this...? Why do I always ruin everything...?"
" maybe he's right. Maybe I'm over dramatic"
Her voice cracked , fragile ,and guilt twisted in my chest
God....why did I let this happen ?
Another tear slid down her cheek , she hugged her knees more tightly
" he probably hates me now " she mummered quietly
Hate her ? No never
I had been frustrated earlier yes , but seeing her like this- seeing her blame herself . It made my words feel cruel
Slowly I stepped closer 🫧🤍
" jay " I called her out
She didn't look at me . Her lips trembled
" I'm fine " she whispered trying to sound
Steady " I just need a minute "
I shook my head and sat down gently beside her , careful not to crowd her
She let out a shaky breath
" your scaring me " she admitted softly
" I don't like feeling like this...feeling like I'm alone "
" your not alone " I said , moving slightly closer " none of this is your fault ,I'm sorry I let it get to this , I'm sorry I made you blame yourself " I said
Her head titled towards me . Eyed glistening
" I just , I hate feeling like I'm not enough " she whispered
" your more than enough" I said immediately
" your my everything, and I'll never let you feel like this again " I said gently
For a few minutes. Neither of us spoke
I reached for her hand , she let me hold it
Slowly she leaned closer , her head fully resting on my shoulder . I felt her small shivers against me
I draped my arms around her,pulling her , just enough to make her feel safe. Not too tightly. Just a reminder that she wasn't alone 🤍✨️
" I'm here " I whispered Slowly, kissing her forehead
she sniffed , trembling, she let out a shaky breath
" I hate feeling like this" she mummered against my hoodie
" I know and I promise I won't ever make you feel like that again 🤍" I said
Her hands squeezed mine Slowly, her fingers still trembling
" I just want to feel safe " she said quietly
" and u are " I said " I will protect you forever 💛"
" you really mean it ? She asked quietly
" yes I'll always be there for you 💛🫧" he replied
For a long moment we stayed like that , just us . No words were needed
Just her and me holding each other 🤍
Even after the tears , even after the guilt . Even after the fear thar haunted us
We had each other
And that's all that mattered ❤️...for now
