Chapter 39 - Arrived and confession

Jay's POV — Walk in Oslo

Cold air hit my face the moment we stepped out of the airport.

Snow covered the ground, soft and white, the city lights reflecting against it.

Oslo.

A strange feeling settled in my chest.

It had been a while… but somehow it still felt familiar.

Hannah stretched her arms dramatically.

"Finally home."

Elise laughed. "You act like you've been gone for years."

"It felt like years."

Liam and Noel grabbed their bags while Adrian called for the cars that would take us to the apartments.

Keifer stood quietly beside me.

He looked around the city slowly, taking everything in

.

"So this is Oslo," he said.

I nodded.

"Yeah."

Snowflakes drifted lightly through the air.

For a moment none of us spoke.

Then Hannah suddenly clapped her hands.

"Walk!"

Everyone looked at her.

"What?" Noel said.

"We just got here."

"I want fresh air," she said dramatically. "Jay, come with me."

Before I could answer, Elise grabbed Liam's arm.

"Let's go too."

Within seconds everyone started moving down the street.

Noel walked beside me while Keifer stayed a few steps behind.

The streets were calm, soft lights glowing from cafés and small shops.

I pointed ahead.

"That café used to be my favorite."

Noel smiled.

"We should go tomorrow."

"Definitely."

Behind us I heard Keifer's footsteps crunch softly in the snow.

After a few minutes, Hannah and Elise ran ahead laughing about something.

Liam followed them.

Noel checked his phone.

"I'll catch up with them," he said.

Then he jogged ahead too.

And just like that…

It was quiet.

Only me and Keifer walking side by side.

Snow crunched under our shoes.

He shoved his hands into his coat pockets.

"You look different here," he said.

I glanced at him.

"How?"

"You seem… calmer."

I smiled faintly.

"I liked living here."

He nodded slowly.

"I can see why."

We kept walking for a moment.

Then suddenly my foot slipped slightly on the ice.

Before I could react—

Keifer grabbed my arm.

His hand wrapped around my wrist, steady and warm.

"Careful," he said quietly.

I looked up at him.

Our faces were closer than I expected.

Snowflakes caught in his dark hair.

My heart did something stupid inside my chest.

"I'm fine," I said quietly.

He didn't move immediately.

"Yeah… I know."

But he still looked concerned.

From farther down the street, Noel slowed his steps.

He had turned back when he realized we weren't beside him anymore.

And the moment he saw us—

Keifer's hand still holding my arm.

Something in his expression changed.

His jaw tightened.

He watched silently for a few seconds before walking back toward us.

By the time he reached us, Keifer had already let go.

But Noel had seen enough.

"Well," Noel said sharply, stopping beside us.

"That's interesting."

I frowned slightly.

"What?"

"You two look very comfortable back here."

"We're walking," I replied.

"No," Noel said, shaking his head slightly.

"You're doing more than that."

Keifer stayed quiet, his hands sliding into his coat pockets.

"Relax," he said calmly. "Nothing happened.

"

Noel let out a short laugh

.

"That's funny."

His eyes moved from Keifer to me.

"Because from where I was standing, it didn't look like nothing."

I crossed my arms.

"You're overreacting

."

"Am I?"

His voice was sharper now.

"You slipped," Noel continued. "And somehow he's the one holding you like you're about to fall apart."

"That's called helping," Keifer said evenly.

Noel's gaze snapped back to him.

"I didn't ask you."

The tension between them was suddenly thick.

Before things could get worse, Hannah shouted from down the street.

"Are you three coming or starting a fight back there?"

Elise burst out laughing.

"I bet it's both!"

I sighed and started walking again.

"Come on."

For a moment neither of them moved.

Then Keifer followed quietly beside me.

Noel walked on my other side, unusually silent.

But I could feel it.

The tension.

The jealousy.

And somehow I knew…

This was only the beginning of the problems this trip was going to bring.

Jay's POV — The Confession

The apartment was lively again that evening.

Music played softly in the background while Hannah and Elise argued over what movie we should watch.

Liam sat on the floor near

rthe couch, scrolling through something on his phone, while Adrian leaned against the kitchen counter talking to Celestine.

Mama, papa and Keifer's family was planning on the wedding date

For a moment it felt normal again.

Like the awkward tension from the café had disappeared.

Keifer sat at the end of the couch, quiet as usual tonight, his attention mostly on his phone

.

He barely joined the conversation.

I noticed it.

Even if he tried to hide it.

Noel suddenly stood up from his chair.

"Okay," he said loudly.

Everyone looked at him.

"What now?" Elise asked.

"I have something to say."

Hannah immediately grinned.

"Oh this should be good."

Noel turned toward me.

For a second I felt uneasy.

"Jay," he said.

My eyebrows lifted slightly.

"Yes?"

He stepped closer.

"I've been thinking about this for a while."

The room grew quieter.

Even Keifer slowly looked up from his phone.

Noel took a breath.

"I like you."

The words landed heavily in the room.

"And not just as a friend," he continued. "I want to court you."

Hannah's eyes widened.

Elise looked between us in shock.

Liam whispered, "Wow."

I froze.

I hadn't expected this.

Not like this.

Not in front of everyone.

Slowly I glanced toward Keifer.

He had gone completely still.

His expression hardened, his jaw tightening as he stared at Noel.

Then he suddenly stood up.

"Congratulations," he muttered flatly.

Before anyone could say anything else, he turned and walked toward the door.

"Keifer—" Adrian started.

But the door had already closed behind him.

The room fell into an uncomfortable silence.

My chest tightened.

I turned back to Noel.

"Why would you do that?" I said quietly.

He frowned.

"Do what?"

"Say that in front of everyone."

"I meant it."

"That's not the point."

Noel crossed his arms.

"So what's your answer?"

Everyone was still watching us.

Waiting.

I took a slow breath.

"No."

The word was clear.

Firm.

Noel blinked.

"What?"

"I said no," I repeated calmly.

"I care about you as a friend," I said. "But nothing more."

His expression hardened slightly.

"You're saying no because of him, aren't you?"

"That's not your business."

Silence filled the room again.

Then I grabbed my coat.

"Where are you going?" Hannah asked softly.

"I'm going outside."

Because I already knew where keifer was

And somehow…

Seeing him walk away like that hurt more
