CHAPTER 12: AWAKENING IN THE WASTELAND

The white light slowly began to fade. Everything that existed moments ago—Sector Zero, the booming voice of the Admin, the collapsing simulation—all seemed to vanish like mist. Aryan felt as if his body was being crushed under a massive weight. In the simulation, his body was light… swift… but now—every breath felt heavy. Every muscle ached. He realized he could barely move his fingers.

Aryan (softly whispering): "Where… where am I?"

His own voice sounded like a stranger to him, as if he had forgotten how to speak for centuries. Aryan opened his eyes with great difficulty. The first thing he felt… was the cold, dry air. That air was thick with the scent of dust, rusted metal, and scorched earth. He looked up. The sky wasn't blue; it was a strange greyish-brown color, as if a thick layer of dust had settled over the entire world. Even the sunlight wasn't direct; it filtered through the layers of dust, casting a weak, pale glow.

Aryan slowly tried to sit up. It was then he realized—he was lying inside an ancient, rusted capsule. Several wires and tubes were connected to his body, which had likely been feeding data to his brain from the simulation. With trembling hands, he began to detach them one by one. With every wire removed, his head felt heavier, as if thousands of memories were being unlinked.

Aryan pushed open the transparent lid of the capsule. It creaked open with a groan. And then… he looked outside. His breath hitched.

Barren land stretched for miles. Between sand dunes stood the skeletons of shattered buildings. Here and there, the remains of burnt towers stood tall. The streets of what was once a city were now filled with nothing but dust and rubble. No trees. No humans. No sound. Just the wind—slow, heavy, and dead.

Aryan stepped out of the capsule. As soon as his feet touched the ground, a layer of dust swirled into the air.

Aryan (in shock): "So… this is the truth?"

His gaze wandered across the horizon. "We were all in a simulation… because the real world was no longer habitable?"

His words were lost in the wind; there was no one to answer. Aryan looked at his hands. He thought that with the end of the simulation, all his abilities would vanish too. But as soon as he focused—lines of glowing data suddenly appeared before his eyes. As if the world itself was transforming into code.

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]

CORE ARCHIVE INTEGRATED WITH NEURAL NETWORK

REALITY SYNC — 100%

Aryan's breathing quickened. Dr. Raghav hadn't just freed him; he had uploaded the entire system core into his brain. Now, Aryan began to see patterns in everything: the direction of the wind, the chemical composition of the soil, the structural stability of the broken buildings… and a faint, rhythmic thumping of an old machine from far away. Like a sleeping monster still clinging to life.

Suddenly—a heavy sound echoed through the air.

SCRRRRRRRAAAANG!

Like metal grinding against stone. Aryan immediately became alert. Something began to move behind a massive sand dune. Then… a gargantuan Mechanical Scavenger emerged. Its body was made from the scraps of old industrial machines. It had multiple robotic arms picking up scrap from the ground. Suddenly, its sensors flashed bright red.

TARGET DETECTED: LIFE FORM

The robot's head snapped toward Aryan. Aryan immediately looked near the capsule. Lying there on the ground was—Kaka's staff. But it wasn't wood anymore; it was an old metal rod. Aryan picked it up, his grip tightening. Before his eyes, the codes of the scavenger's body structure appeared—weak points, energy nodes, joint locks.

Aryan smirked slightly. Aryan (in a low, cold voice): "If this is the real world… then the rules here are about to change too."

The mechanical scavenger surged toward him. And Aryan… stood ready to fight. Just as the scavenger was about to strike, another signal flashed in Aryan's mind.

[INCOMING TRANSMISSION]

SOURCE: UNKNOWN HUMAN SIGNAL

LOCATION: 120 KM EAST

Aryan was stunned. "Human…?"

In this ruined world… someone else was alive.
