Even after trying to extract Karl's blood sample, there was still no result.
Tony was still unwilling to give up.
He picked up a pair of scissors and tried to cut a strand of Karl's hair.
"Click!"
It was clearly just a single hair, yet it wouldn't cut. The blade of the scissors even bent inward.
"Damn it! Even his hair is this ridiculous?!"
"Watch your language. We're all here," Steve said.
Tony looked at Steve speechlessly and handed him the scissors.
"Captain, it's your turn. If you can cut even one strand of this guy's hair, I'll apologize to the whole world at a press conference and promise never to swear again."
Steve didn't take the scissors. Tony's earlier attempt had already proven that Karl's hair was unbelievably tough.
At that moment, Di Wu finally couldn't stand it anymore.
"Alright, that's enough."
He stepped forward, released the restraints holding Karl down, and casually smoothed Karl's slightly messy hair.
"I'm curious," Tony said suddenly. "Does he even go to the bathroom?"
Since the previous methods didn't work, Tony had started thinking about Karl's bodily waste.
Di Yan shot Tony a disgusted glance.
"Is that normal? Talking like that makes women feel extremely uncomfortable."
Tony rubbed his nose and glanced at Wanda and Natasha.
As expected, both of them looked at him with clear signals telling him to stay away.
"Ahem!"
Tony coughed awkwardly.
"That's just the persistence of a scientist. Don't mind it. Alright, let's go back and eat something."
Natasha immediately asked, "Why would you mention food right now?"
Wanda also looked at Tony strangely.
"I've completely lost my appetite."
Tony, who had originally wanted to ask Karl for a saliva sample, didn't dare bring it up anymore.
After all, a famous playboy asking another man for his saliva would make him look extremely weird.
Everyone gradually dispersed, leaving the room while giving Tony strange looks.
Even Karl did the same.
"Hey! You don't understand—this is normal medical research, like what doctors do in hospitals!"
No one paid attention to Tony.
Soon, everyone left the laboratory, leaving him alone.
…
"I should head back…"
On the open platform—usually used for Tony's landings and for aircraft—Thor was saying goodbye to everyone.
He had only been away from Asgard for a few days and was preparing to return.
"Thank you for your help!"
Steve smiled and said to him, "With you here, our team feels even more complete."
Thor smiled and raised Mjolnir.
A colorful beam of light shot down from the sky, cutting through the night.
When the light disappeared, only a scorch mark remained on the platform.
Thor had left.
Now there were no major crises left.
Everyone could finally return to their normal lives.
Wanda and Quicksilver stayed at Stark Tower.
As the Avengers' headquarters, the tower had rooms for every member.
They had already agreed to join the team, and their rooms had been arranged.
However, Karl and Di Wan did not join the Avengers.
After all, they wouldn't stay in this world for very long. Taking on too many responsibilities wouldn't be good for them. If they could help occasionally, that was fine—but officially joining the team meant accepting different duties and obligations.
Karl and Di Wan still stayed at Stark Tower, though.
Tony didn't want them to leave and even hoped they would remain there.
With free food and accommodation, they simply stayed there instead of renting a place elsewhere.
"Ah—! That hurts!"
"I haven't even used my full strength yet…"
"But it really hurts…"
"The first time is always painful!"
"Then why do other people like it so much?!"
"How would you know? You're not other people!"
"I don't care—just hit it again…"
Inside the room, Di Wan was lying on the bed while Karl stood beside it.
To be fair, the two of them had already been very honest with each other—otherwise things wouldn't have developed this far.
Di Wan had studied magic, and normally injuries could be healed with spells.
However, she had a black scar on her waist.
It was a lingering injury from the early days of her acting career. Back then she had worked day and night without proper rest, leaving her with chronic back damage.
Back injuries couldn't simply be healed with magic.
Spells could only suppress the nerve pain temporarily while slowly correcting the spine's position.
Without constant magical support, the pain would return.
So now, Di Wan had asked Karl to help massage her back and adjust her bones.
Karl's X-ray vision made him perfect for the task. He could see the position of every bone, and even though it was his first time, he could handle it.
But the pain of bone adjustment was indescribable.
At this moment, Di Wan was covered in sweat, trembling in pain, her face pale.
If her bones didn't need correction, it wouldn't affect her much—but lately her movements when bending down weren't as smooth as before.
"Click… it won't adjust."
"Obviously!!"
"Ahhh—!"
While Di Wan was distracted, Karl suddenly pushed firmly.
The bone snapped back into place.
Di Wan screamed miserably.
Anyone hearing it would wonder what terrible thing had happened.
"What are you doing?!"
The pain of bone realignment was something ordinary people could barely endure.
Di Wan lay motionless on the bed, trembling all over.
Even so, her tone remained stubbornly strong.
Karl stood beside the bed. Hearing her fierce voice, he couldn't help but smile slightly.
"This is only the first adjustment. We'll do it again in seven days. After about half a year, it should be completely fixed."
"You want to do it again?! I'm going to die…"
Poor Di Wan lay on the bed staring at Karl with watery eyes. She looked surprisingly pitiful.
Karl nodded.
"This is an old injury. It built up over time without regular treatment. Otherwise it would just return to its previous condition."
"Sniff—!"
She turned her head away from him and buried her face in the pillow, mumbling incoherently.
No matter how you looked at it, it was hard to say anything comforting.
Karl pulled down her sleepwear to cover her slender waist again and tucked the blanket over her.
For now, she could only lie in that position. If she turned over, it would irritate the nerves in her back and cause intense pain that might take an hour to subside.
"My life is so miserable!!"
Karl had just lain down when he heard Di Wan's miserable wail.
He frowned and looked at her.
"I shouldn't have touched the nerves near your brain."
Di Wan turned her head toward Karl and pouted unhappily.
"I used to imagine what my boyfriend would be like."
Karl brushed aside her sweat-soaked hair.
Di Wan continued,
"But I never imagined someone like you. Do you know you completely ruined the beauty of my first love?!"
Karl smiled.
"Then what kind of first love did you imagine?"
Di Wan thought for a moment but didn't answer.
Karl saw her thinking and laughed.
"Are you only thinking about it now?"
If Di Wan could move right now, she would probably move out immediately.
She glared at Karl and said,
"Anyway, it wouldn't be like you. Someone who would depend on me in everything, satisfy me in every way, never make me angry, never hurt me like this, and treat me very well."
Karl laughed.
"That sounds completely unrealistic."
