POV: Cameron Ashford
The car ride to the press conference takes seven minutes.
Cameron counts them like prayer.
His phone has been buzzing for an hour. James is calling. The board is calling. His lawyer is calling. Everyone is telling him not to do this. Everyone is telling him that what he's about to do will destroy what's left of his company.
They're right.
He knows they're right.
He's not doing this for the company anymore.
James sits next to him in the back of the car, looking like he wants to physically stop Cameron from walking into the building. His oldest friend. The person who knows him better than anyone. The person who's been trying to warn him not to do this for the last three hours.
"You can't undo this," James says for the fifth time. "Once you say these things on camera, once you admit to everything, there's no coming back. They'll use it against you. The board will vote you out by tonight. Your competitors will circle. The company will fall."
