Chapter 20 - The Birth of a True Villain

The afternoon sun hung high above the city of Ujjaini, casting long golden rays across the stone streets and market squares.

To the ordinary citizens moving through the city, the day appeared completely normal.

Merchants bargained loudly with customers.

Temple bells echoed gently through the air.

Travelers arrived through the city gates carrying news from distant regions.

Yet hidden among the crowds walked a man whose life had changed completely in the past twenty-four hours.

Arivaan moved calmly through the quieter district streets, his cloak brushing softly against the stone road.

Behind him walked Devika Agnivarna, the Rakshak warrior once feared by countless villains.

Now she followed him like a silent shadow.

Her expression remained serious as always, but inside her mind, a storm of thoughts continued raging.

This man—this former villain soldier—had somehow gained a power that should not exist.

A power capable of bending even a Rakshak hero to his will.

Devika watched him carefully as they walked.

"You're quiet," she said.

Arivaan glanced over his shoulder.

"I'm thinking."

"That's usually when you do something reckless."

Arivaan chuckled softly.

"You're starting to understand me."

Devika frowned.

"That doesn't mean I approve."

They continued walking until they reached a quiet courtyard surrounded by small stone buildings.

Unlike the crowded marketplace, this place remained peaceful.

A large banyan tree stood at the center of the courtyard, its wide branches providing shade.

Arivaan stopped beneath the tree and leaned against the trunk.

Devika halted a few steps away.

"So," she said, "what's the plan now?"

Arivaan looked up at the branches above him.

Sunlight filtered through the leaves in scattered patterns.

For a moment he said nothing.

Then he focused his mind.

The glowing panel appeared once again.

Target: Devika AgnivarnaImprint Stage: 1Assimilation: 58%

The number had grown steadily throughout the day.

Arivaan studied it carefully.

More than halfway.

Which meant something important might happen once the percentage reached the next stage.

Devika noticed his expression.

"You're watching that strange interface again."

Arivaan nodded.

"It's interesting."

"What is?"

"The connection between us."

Devika crossed her arms.

"You mean the control you're forcing on me."

Arivaan shrugged.

"That too."

Devika stepped closer.

"You're enjoying this."

Arivaan looked directly at her.

"Wouldn't you?"

Devika hesitated.

Arivaan continued speaking calmly.

"Yesterday I was a nobody."

"A disposable soldier."

"Someone even the villains ignored."

He gestured toward the distant towers of the Rakshak Sabha, barely visible beyond the rooftops.

"But now…"

"…one of the strongest heroes in this region can't even walk away from me."

Devika's voice hardened.

"That doesn't make you powerful."

Arivaan smiled.

"No."

"It just means I finally have a chance."

Devika frowned.

"A chance to do what?"

Arivaan turned away from the tree and began pacing slowly across the courtyard.

His voice grew quieter, more thoughtful.

"Tell me something."

"What?"

"How many villains have you captured in your career?"

Devika blinked.

"Dozens."

"Hundreds, maybe."

Arivaan nodded slowly.

"And what happened to them?"

"They were imprisoned."

"Or executed."

Arivaan looked at her again.

"And did you ever wonder why they became villains?"

Devika didn't hesitate.

"Because they chose that path."

Arivaan shook his head.

"Not always."

Devika frowned.

"Explain."

Arivaan's voice remained calm.

"In a world where strength decides everything…"

"…what happens to people who are born weak?"

Devika fell silent.

Arivaan continued.

"They get ignored."

"They get used."

"Or they get crushed."

His eyes sharpened slightly.

"I spent years living like that."

Devika watched him carefully.

"And now?"

Arivaan smiled.

"Now things are different."

He looked once more at the glowing panel floating before his eyes.

Assimilation: 60%

The number had climbed again.

The connection between them was growing stronger by the minute.

Arivaan felt a strange excitement building in his chest.

This power wasn't just a weapon.

It was an opportunity.

An opportunity to reshape the rules of the world.

Devika spoke again.

"You're thinking about controlling more people."

Arivaan didn't deny it.

"Eventually."

Devika shook her head.

"You don't realize what kind of enemies that will create."

Arivaan looked toward the distant Rakshak towers once more.

"Oh, I do."

Devika's voice grew serious.

"The Rakshak Sabha will hunt you."

"They'll send the strongest warriors they have."

Arivaan's smile slowly widened.

"Good."

Devika stared at him.

"Good?"

"Yes."

He turned back toward her.

"Because hunters need prey."

Devika's eyes narrowed.

"And you think you'll survive that?"

Arivaan shrugged.

"I survived yesterday."

He walked past her and toward the edge of the courtyard.

The streets of Ujjaini stretched ahead, full of unaware citizens going about their lives.

Arivaan stopped and looked back at Devika.

"You asked what my plan was."

Devika nodded slowly.

"Yes."

Arivaan's voice remained calm.

"First, I learn everything about this power."

"Second…"

"…I stay one step ahead of the Rakshak Sabha."

Devika crossed her arms.

"And third?"

Arivaan smiled.

"Third…"

"…I become strong enough that no one can control me ever again."

Devika watched him carefully.

For the first time since meeting him, she realized something truly unsettling.

Arivaan wasn't just trying to survive anymore.

He was evolving.

The powerless soldier from yesterday was disappearing.

And in his place—

Something far more dangerous was beginning to emerge.

Because deep inside his mind, the strange power awakened by the shattered jewel continued growing stronger.

And with it…

The birth of a true villain had begun.
