Chapter 21 - Chapter 21 – Chains of Judgment

Chapter 21 – Chains of Judgment

The broken chain links scraped across the concrete floor.

Clink… clink…

The sound echoed through the silent factory like a warning bell.

Ronan stood several meters away from the Chain Warden, his chest rising and falling with slow, controlled breaths.

His arm still throbbed from the earlier crushing grip, but the pain had dulled thanks to the lingering effects of Predator Instinct.

Across from him, the Chain Warden remained motionless.

Its faceless head tilted slightly downward as if studying the broken chain in its hand.

For a moment, the creature did nothing.

Then—

The chains lifted again.

The remaining unbroken chain slithered through the air like a living serpent.

And suddenly—

The Chain Warden moved.

CRACK!

The chain shot forward faster than before.

Ronan reacted instantly.

He dove sideways as the chain smashed into the floor beside him, sending shards of concrete flying into the air.

The ground trembled from the impact.

"Damn…"

The power behind that strike was monstrous.

But Ronan had already noticed something important.

The Chain Warden's attacks were powerful—

But they followed patterns.

Every strike began with the same subtle shoulder movement.

The same tightening of its arm.

The same shift of its weight.

Without the enhanced perception granted by Predator Instinct, Ronan might never have noticed it.

But now…

Every motion felt predictable.

The chain lashed toward him again.

Ronan leaned backward just enough to avoid it.

The metal links sliced through the air inches from his chest.

Before the chain could retract—

Ronan rushed forward.

Closing distance.

The Chain Warden reacted immediately.

Its second chain—now shortened from the earlier break—whipped toward him like a spear.

Ronan slid across the floor.

The chain passed just above him.

Now he was inside its attack range again.

Just like before.

Ronan thrust his dagger toward the creature's chest.

CLANG!

The blade struck the metal plating beneath its skin again.

Sparks burst from the impact.

But this time Ronan didn't pull the dagger back immediately.

Instead—

He twisted the blade sideways and dragged it downward.

The dagger scraped along the metal surface.

Searching.

Looking for a gap.

A weak point.

The Chain Warden reacted instantly.

Its arm jerked upward, sending Ronan flying backward as the chain wrapped around his waist.

The metal links tightened.

Ronan felt the pressure crushing against his ribs.

Too slow.

The Chain Warden lifted him into the air again.

This time higher.

Nearly three meters above the ground.

The creature raised its arm.

Preparing to slam him into the concrete floor.

But Ronan didn't panic.

Instead…

He smiled.

Because this was exactly what he wanted.

"Got you."

The Chain Warden's arm swung downward.

At that exact moment—

Ronan drove his dagger deep between two of the metal links wrapped around his waist.

CLINK!

The blade jammed into the chain's joint.

Then he twisted with all his strength.

SNAP!

Another section of chain shattered apart.

Ronan dropped from the air—

But he rolled across the ground smoothly, absorbing the impact.

The Chain Warden stumbled slightly.

For the first time since the battle began…

The creature looked unstable.

Now both of its chains were partially broken.

Its reach had been reduced.

Its control weakened.

Ronan rose to his feet again.

His eyes sharpened.

"Your weapon… is becoming your weakness."

The Chain Warden tilted its head again.

As if trying to understand him.

Then something strange happened.

The creature slowly lifted both of its damaged chains.

And wrapped them tightly around its own arms.

The broken links fused together like twisting metal snakes.

The chains shortened.

But they thickened.

Condensed.

Instead of long-range weapons…

They had become brutal close-range gauntlets.

Ronan's expression changed slightly.

"So you can adapt too…"

The Chain Warden lunged forward.

This time—

Without the chains extending outward.

Instead, it moved like a silent executioner.

Fast.

Much faster than before.

Its chain-wrapped fist swung toward Ronan's head.

WHOOM!

Ronan barely ducked in time.

The fist slammed into a steel support pillar behind him.

CRUNCH!

The pillar bent inward from the impact.

If that hit had landed…

His skull would have been crushed instantly.

Ronan counterattacked.

His dagger flashed toward the creature's neck.

But the Chain Warden blocked the strike with its armored arm.

CLANG!

The impact forced Ronan backward again.

The Chain Warden stepped forward relentlessly.

Punch.

Kick.

Chain-wrapped strike.

Each blow carried terrifying force.

The battle had transformed.

No longer ranged combat.

Now it was a brutal close-quarters duel.

Ronan's breathing grew heavier.

His stamina was running low.

Even with Predator Instinct active, his body was reaching its limits.

The Chain Warden attacked again.

A downward punch aimed straight at Ronan's chest.

Ronan twisted sideways—

And suddenly saw it.

A thin seam in the creature's armor.

Right beneath its collarbone.

A tiny gap between two metal plates.

His eyes flashed.

That's it.

The Chain Warden's next strike came immediately.

Ronan allowed the attack to graze his shoulder—

Using the impact to spin his body forward.

Then he stepped inside the creature's guard.

Closer than ever before.

The Chain Warden tried to react—

But it was too late.

Ronan drove the dagger upward.

Straight toward the gap beneath its collarbone.

THUD!

The blade pierced through the opening.

Deep.

Very deep.

For the first time—

The Chain Warden froze.

Its entire body stiffened.

The chains around its arms trembled violently.

Dark liquid—thicker than blood—began to seep from the wound.

Ronan twisted the dagger.

Hard.

CRACK.

Something inside the creature broke.

The Chain Warden staggered backward.

Its arms fell slowly to its sides.

The chains loosened.

Then the creature collapsed onto its knees.

The system window appeared immediately.

Ronan stepped back slowly.

His breathing was heavy.

His entire body ached.

But the battle…

Was finally over.

The Chain Warden's body began to crumble.

Its grey skin cracked like dry stone.

Then it collapsed into fragments of black dust.

Only one object remained on the ground.

A strange metallic device.

A circular mechanism made of dark steel.

It pulsed faintly with blue light.

The system window appeared again.

New Item Acquired

Dungeon Key Fragment

Description: A fragment of a locked dungeon mechanism.

Fragments Required to Unlock: 3

---

Ronan picked up the device slowly.

"A dungeon key…?"

His eyes narrowed.

That meant this place was bigger than he thought.

Much bigger.

Somewhere deeper in the dungeon…

Two more fragments were waiting.

And judging by the strength of the Chain Warden—

The monsters guarding them would be far more dangerous.

Ronan looked toward the deeper darkness of the factory corridors.

The shadows stretched endlessly ahead.

For a moment, he was silent.

Then a small grin appeared on his face.

"Good."

"This hunt isn't over yet."
