Music continued to echo through the gymnasium of Mystic Falls High School.
Students filled the dance floor.
Laughter, chatter, and flashing lights created the illusion of a normal high school party.
But for some people in the room…
Tonight felt anything but normal.
On the dance floor, Katherine Pierce and Alexander Nightshade moved smoothly with the music.
Katherine's hand rested lightly on Alexander's shoulder while his hand held her waist.
She smiled up at him playfully.
"You dance surprisingly well."

"I've had time to learn."
Katherine tilted her head slightly.
"How much time?"

"You are staring."

"That he's dancing with someone?"

"That he's dancing with her."
Bonnie studied Elena's expression carefully.
'She's jealous.'
Caroline leaned closer and whispered dramatically.
"You like him."
Elena groaned.

But before Elena could say anything else…
Caroline suddenly grabbed her wrist.
"Come on."

"Where are we going?"
Caroline smiled mischievously.
"To fix your problem."
Meanwhile on the dance floor…
Katherine continued dancing with Alexander.
Her eyes carefully studied his face.
"You know…"
She smiled slowly.
"Most men in this town look terrified when I stand this close."
Alexander raised an eyebrow slightly.
"Should I be terrified?"
Katherine laughed softly.
"Maybe."
Alexander's golden eyes observed her quietly.
'She enjoys testing people.'
Katherine leaned closer again.
"Tell me something, Alexander."
"Yes?"
Her voice dropped slightly.
"Do you always attract this much attention?"
Alexander glanced around the room briefly.
Several students were indeed watching them.
Including Elena.
"It happens."
Katherine followed his gaze.
She noticed Elena immediately.
Her smile widened.
'Ah… so that's how it is.'
Without warning—
Katherine moved even closer to Alexander.
Almost pressing against him while they danced.
From across the room…
Elena froze.
Her eyes widened slightly.
Caroline whispered dramatically.
"Oh wow."
Bonnie frowned.
"She's doing that on purpose."
Elena crossed her arms.
"I don't care."
Caroline raised an eyebrow.
"Sure you don't."

Alexander gently stopped dancing.
Katherine looked surprised.
"Already bored?"
Alexander looked past her.
Toward Elena.
Then he spoke calmly.
"Someone wishes to interrupt."
Katherine slowly turned around.
And saw Elena walking toward them.
Her smile returned instantly.
"Well… this should be fun."
Elena stopped in front of them.
For a moment…
The three simply looked at each other.
The tension was obvious.
Katherine spoke first.
"Elena."
Elena forced a polite smile.
"Katherine."
Katherine tilted her head slightly.
"Didn't expect to see you here."
Elena replied calmly.
"It's a school party."
Katherine chuckled softly.
"Fair point."
Then Katherine looked back at Alexander.
Her eyes playful.
"Well Alexander, it seems you have another admirer."
Elena rolled her eyes slightly.
"I'm not an admirer."
Katherine smirked.
"Of course not."
Alexander watched the conversation quietly.
Clearly amused.
Elena finally turned to him.
Her voice slightly softer.
"Would you like to dance?"
For a moment…

Students moved across the dance floor.
Katherine watched Alexander with curiosity.
'Let's see what choice you make.'

Then calmly released Katherine's hand.
He stepped toward Elena.
"Of course."
Katherine laughed softly.
"Well played."
She stepped away from the dance floor.
But before leaving…
She whispered quietly to Alexander.
"Careful."
Her eyes moved briefly toward Elena.
"She might actually like you."
Then Katherine disappeared back into the crowd.

Elena and Alexander stood together on the dance floor.
The music slowed slightly.
Elena looked a little nervous.
Alexander placed a hand gently at her waist.
"You seem tense."
Elena sighed.
"I'm not used to confronting people like Katherine."
Alexander nodded slightly.
"That's understandable."
They began moving slowly with the music.
Elena looked up at him.
"She likes messing with people."
Alexander replied calmly.
"Yes."
Elena hesitated before asking quietly:
"Does she like you?"
Alexander thought for a moment.
Then answered simply.
"Possibly."
Elena frowned slightly.
"That doesn't bother you?"
Alexander shook his head.
"No."
Elena looked curious.
"Why not?"
Alexander's golden eyes met hers.
'Because none of this truly matters yet.'
But what he said instead was:
"Because I'm dancing with you."
Elena blinked.
Surprised.
Then slowly…
She smiled.
Across the room…
Damon watched the entire scene.
His smirk returned.
'Oh yeah… this is definitely going to get messy.'
And somewhere in the crowd…
Bonnie Bennett felt that same strange supernatural pressure again.
Stronger than ever.
Her eyes locked onto Alexander.
'What are you really…?'
