Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 This is Not a Turn-Based Game

Chapter 14 This is Not a Turn-Based Game

A Spearow led a flock of Spearows to attack Growlithe, utterly overwhelming it.

  Did Growlithe provoke it?

  No!

Xia Mu and Riolu discovered a peculiar Spearow. Its plumage wasn't particularly vibrant, one wing was somewhat bald, and most importantly, it had a tuft of yellowish-green feathers on its head.

It was the same Spearow they encountered three days ago. At the time, Xia Mu thought he was incredibly lucky to have caught a Shiny Spearow.

But upon closer inspection, he realized that this Spearow only had a slightly different head color; it wasn't a true Shiny.

Not being Shiny, it naturally lost its appeal for capture. So Xia Mu had Growlithe and Riolu work together to capture over a dozen Spearows, including this one, and the two even leveled up.

Now, it was clear that the vengeful Spearows had brought their leader back for revenge!

"Get down! Gyarados," Xia Mu coldly ordered.

He could accept that Growlithe was defeated due to its inferior strength, but it was excessive to continue attacking it so relentlessly while it was already unconscious.

Even though he had previously used Growlithe and Riolu to fight and gain experience points, he wouldn't have done that after winning.

Xia Mu had had Growlithe and Riolu defeat at least a thousand Pokémon in the past few days.

He would stop attacking most Pokémon once they were unable to battle or were knocked down, and he would use healing sprays to help those with serious injuries recover.

It was a kind of repeated use.

Perhaps he could gain more experience points next time.

  ...

The red Gyarados was right in front of them, its powerful intimidation even frightening the few Spearow that hadn't initially left, causing them to retreat, showing signs of wanting to run away because they couldn't win.

The Spearow and the red Gyarados stared at each other, neither daring to make a move.

Xia Mu could see the changes in the giant sparrow's emotions. Although this guy was of a high level, he was still frightened by the red gyarados. He was probably still wondering why the gyarados wasn't blue, but red.

"Riolu." Xia Mu jumped off the red Gyarados's body first, beckoning Riolu to follow.

Seeing Growlithe's near-death state, Riolu was enraged. Its eyes, blazing with fury, radiated intense displeasure.

Riolu: 'Woof woof~ woof~~ (Get your stinky feet off Growlithe!)'

Fearow: 'Caw~~ Caw~~ Caw~~'

(You dare challenge me? What can you do if I don't leave you?) Red Gyarados: 'Roar~~!!' (If you won't leave, then I'll fight! Roar!!)

  ...

After a few exchanges, the red Gyarados twisted its massive body, ready to attack.

Having only recently evolved, even at level 20, the red Gyarados wasn't intimidated at all, nor was it afraid of the little bird before it.

That's right, the red Gyarados didn't recognize Fearow; in its eyes, Fearow was just a little bird, and Spearow was just a tiny bird.

  A complete size advantage.

Fearow clearly considered Gyarados the real threat, neglecting Riolu.

After a moment's thought, Fearow retreated, temporarily removing its claws from Growlithe's head.

Growlithe remained motionless, clearly severely injured and near death.

This scene further spurred Xia Mu and Riolu.

Xia Mu seized the opportunity to retrieve Growlithe from his Poké Ball, then glared at Fearow.

If it came to a fight, his Riolu and Gyarados might be able to win, but he had to be careful.

While Riolu's Fighting-type was strong against Normal-type, it was heavily countered by Flying-type. A direct confrontation would likely result in a two-hit KO from Fearow.

Gyarados couldn't withstand the same pressure either, given its level 20 advantage; even without type advantage, it could only withstand two attacks at most.

This was only because Xia Mu was betting that the real Pokémon world wasn't like the game world, where species differences compensated for some weaknesses.

Now, he either retreated safely, or Fearow didn't pursue.

Or perhaps he could scare the Fearow away.

Clearly, this level 40 Fearow, while afraid of the Red Gyarados, wasn't easily fooled.

However, since it didn't attack first, Xia Mu could maintain the upper hand.

Staring intently at the Fearow, Xia Mu carefully examined its information panel.

  [Fearow]

  [LV: 40]

  [Gender: Female]

  [Type: Normal, Flying]

  [Nature: Adamant]

[Ability: Keen Eyes (Keen Eyes, accuracy will not be lowered)]

[Moves: Leer, Squeak, Peck, Peck, Drill Rush, Pursuit, Wild Attack, Wing Attack, Agility.]

[Friendship: 0 (Never met before, be careful what you say)]

[Emotion: Nervous (Don't be cowardly, don't be cowardly, don't be cowardly)]

  ...

  Still a stubborn Fearow!

It hasn't learned Aerial Ace, Roost, Tackle, etc., and most importantly, its level isn't high enough to even learn Drill Peck... This is good news.

If nothing unexpected happens, the reason Growlithe was crushed by it is probably because of that Drill Rush move; Ground-type moves are super effective against Fire-types.

Otherwise, Growlithe at level 35 shouldn't have lost so decisively.

  Level 35?

  That's right!

Growlithe must have spent another afternoon dominating the forest, gaining 2 levels, before being targeted by Fearow.

Of course, it's also possible that Growlithe was exhausted and injured from fighting all afternoon.

His eyes narrowed, many battle scenes flashing through his mind.

"Since you're not planning to leave, then let's fight. You all ganged up on Growlithe before, right? Don't blame me for fighting two against one." A hint of hatred flashed in his eyes; who could he scare?

  'Roar! Roar!'

  Gyarados roared in perfect unison.

  'Woof! Woof!'

Riolu's aura grew even stronger; as a Fighting-type, its fighting spirit was naturally powerful.

  Fearow, however, hesitated.

It wasn't sure what other tricks this human, Xia Mu, had up his sleeve.

It didn't know the true strength of the red Gyarados and Riolu.

But, it was, after all, the apex predator of its kind; it wouldn't be intimidated by a single word.

  'Caw!'

A sharp cry rang out, and Fearow spread its enormous wings, as if in a show of defiance.

Xia Mu wasn't giving it a chance.

  "Gyarados, Leer! Then, Grimace!

" "Riolu, coordinate with Gyarados, Vacuum Wave ready!"

The command was given, and Gyarados widened its terrifying giant eyes.

With its horrifying appearance amplifying the power of its Leer, it reached deep into the heart.

The Grimace continued to exert increasing psychological pressure on Fearow.

Its Defense dropped by one stage, and its Speed dropped by two stages.

Fearow was now terrified, flapping its wings to take off.

Just as it reached the air, Riolu unleashed two Vacuum Waves.

However, despite this, Fearow still managed to dodge the attack.

The level advantage remained; it was difficult to deal with.

"Trying to run away isn't so easy! I'm afraid you won't fly, Gyarados, keep crushing it, Tornado!" "With a wave of his hand, Xia Mu gave a cold shout.

The red Gyarados immediately swung its huge tail, unleashing a tornado that locked onto Fearow's position, disrupting and damaging it.

Its Intimidate ability lowered its Attack, it was hit by Leer which lowered its Defense, and with the added two-stage slow from Frightening Face, Fearow, while not suffering significant damage from the tornado, still flinched.

"Now! Riolu, use Self-Motivation, then unleash Rock Smash with all your might!

Coordinate your attacks, unleash a barrage of strikes, after all, this isn't a turn-based game, it's a back-and-forth battle.
