Chapter 31: The League of Villains — Spear of Lightning

"Thirteen… Eraser Head… but where is he?"

As the dark mist settled into a humanoid shape, Kurogiri looked around in confusion.

"According to the class schedule we obtained a few days ago, All Might was supposed to be here today."

Aizawa took several steps forward, putting himself between the villains and the students.

"So this is what those people were setting up the other day," he said coldly.

"Where is he?" Tomura Shigaraki suddenly snapped, his irritation spilling over. "I went to all the trouble of bringing this many people here. I even brought three Nomu." He looked around the facility with growing frustration. "And the so-called Symbol of Peace isn't even here."

Then he turned his attention toward Class 1-A.

"If we kill these kids," he muttered, "will that be enough to make him show up?"

A heavy, vicious atmosphere spread through the USJ.

This was not simple hostility.

It was genuine, murderous intent.

Akio Tatsuma's expression darkened as he looked down at the crowd of villains below. In the original flow of events, Shigaraki and Kurogiri were supposed to arrive with only one Nomu. Now there were three.

He studied the other two carefully.

One had a thin, wiry frame with wings sprouting from its back.

The other was larger, with green skin and four arms, nearly as massive as the original black Nomu.

Even so, Akio didn't back down.

If things had changed, then he would adapt.

With his current strength, he still couldn't beat the black Nomu alone. But against the others—against Shigaraki himself—he was confident he could at least hurt them.

"Villains? Are they insane?" Kirishima said in disbelief. "Breaking into a hero school like this?"

"No," Akio said, turning toward him. "This was planned."

The entire class immediately looked at him.

"The five standing at the front are the key people," he said, eyes fixed on Shigaraki, Kurogiri, and the three Nomu. "They're the leaders. And they're strong."

His words aligned almost perfectly with what Aizawa was already thinking.

For the first time, Aizawa felt a slight sense of reassurance.

Thirteen was here.

The rest were students.

But among students, there were still differences in strength, and right now those differences mattered. He could hold off part of the enemy force, but defeating all of them alone was impossible.

In that case, the strongest students would need to survive on their own and help create openings.

Akio was the obvious first choice.

After him came students like Todoroki, Bakugo, Tokoyami, and Yaoyorozu—students who at least had the ability to protect themselves.

As long as they didn't challenge the enemy leaders directly, there was still hope.

Still, the sheer number of villains made Aizawa's head ache.

"Sensei," Yaoyorozu asked anxiously, stepping forward, "what about the intrusion sensors?"

"Of course the school has them," Thirteen answered.

Todoroki spoke without panic.

"If the sensors didn't stop them, then someone on their side must have a Quirk that can interfere with them."

He kept his eyes on Shigaraki.

"They chose an isolated location far from the main building. They knew the class schedule. As ridiculous as they look, they're not acting blindly."

He paused.

"This was a carefully planned attack with a specific objective."

Aizawa nodded once.

"Thirteen, evacuate the students and contact the school if you can."

He began walking down the stairs.

"If they were prepared to disable the sensors, then they probably also anticipated ordinary communications. There may be someone interfering from a distance."

Then he turned his head slightly.

"Kaminari. Try to reach out using your Quirk."

"Yes!" Kaminari answered immediately.

Midoriya stepped forward, worried.

"Sensei… are you going in alone? There are too many of them. No matter how many Quirks you erase, your fighting style is built around nullifying Quirks and capturing opponents. In a direct fight—"

"If all I had was one trick," Aizawa cut in, "I wouldn't be a hero."

He adjusted his goggles.

"I'm counting on you, Thirteen."

Then, without another word, he jumped down toward the villains.

Akio watched him go for one second.

Then he reached into his bag, pulled out the Ultraman Tiga mask, and put it on.

"Akio?" Iida stared at him, stunned. "What are you doing?"

That reaction drew everyone else's attention too.

At a time like this, Akio had suddenly put on an Ultraman mask. The behavior was bizarre enough on its own—but the fact that it was specifically Tiga somehow made it even stranger.

Still…

On him, it looked unexpectedly cool.

Todoroki's gaze sharpened.

"So you're planning to fight too."

Akio said nothing.

He simply raised his right hand.

"Watch this."

Blue lightning gathered instantly, condensing in his palm into the shape of a spear.

Then he twisted his body and threw it with explosive force.

"Thunder Spear!"

The weapon of lightning ripped through the air, flashing straight toward Shigaraki.

This was a technique Akio had only recently developed—a move inspired by the idea of condensing lightning into a thrown weapon rather than a blast. His Quirk was growing more flexible with every level, and as long as his control continued to improve, there was no telling how many forms his lightning could take.

The moment the spear flew, both Shigaraki and Kurogiri noticed.

Shigaraki's eyes widened slightly.

"A U.A. student with that kind of Quirk…" he murmured. Then a slow, ugly smile spread across his face. "Good. Maybe this trip wasn't wasted after all. If All Might isn't here… then we'll just kill everyone."

The villains below reacted a moment too late, but they still saw the blue flash racing toward Shigaraki.

Aizawa's eyes narrowed, and the corner of his mouth twitched upward.

Class 1-A really had no shortage of reckless monsters.

"Nomu," Shigaraki said casually, without moving.

The black Nomu responded instantly.

It stepped in front of him, brought both arms up, and blocked the incoming spear.

The lightning exploded on impact, flashing wildly across its body—

And did almost nothing.

The Nomu didn't even flinch.

It was like watching someone brush dust from their sleeve.

Akio's expression tightened beneath the mask.

Just as I thought.

He had never expected to kill Shigaraki with that attack.

This was a test.

A way to measure the gap between himself and the black Nomu.

And now he had his answer.

The gap…

was still far too wide.
