[Night of the Ninth Day – Waters Near Wano Country]
A massive whale pirate ship was quietly anchored on the sea. Only a few people were chatting on the deck, as most of the crew seemed to have gone to rest.
Not far from the pirate ship was a waterfall. The torrent cascaded down fiercely into the sea, and though it was nearly a kilometer away, the sound of water rushing into the ocean could still be heard.
This massive whale ship belonged to the Whitebeard Pirates. After nine long days of sailing, the crew had finally arrived near the waters of Wano Country. Since it was late, they decided to rest for the night before venturing into Wano Country the next day.
Reno lay quietly by the railing, gazing at the distant waterfall crashing into the ocean. It was almost midnight, and he was waiting for his system's check-in task to complete, which kept him from going to bed.
While most of the Whitebeard Pirates were already asleep, a few remained on deck chatting. Among them was Marco.
Noticing Reno still lying by the railing, Marco walked over and gave him a pat. "Hey, brat, why aren't you asleep yet? You usually hit the sack early."
Since arriving in the pirate world, Reno had little to occupy himself in the evenings, so he would usually go to bed early.
Marco, knowing this habit, was curious and came over to ask Reno what was going on.
Hearing Marco's question, Reno glanced at him and replied casually, "Pineapple Head, I just want some peace. Stop bugging me, or nobody's getting any sleep tonight."
Marco's face instantly darkened at Reno's words and that nickname. In his mind, he cursed: This little brat! I'm just here to check on him out of concern, not to pick a fight. And he calls me annoying? Talk about being ungrateful!
Suppressing his irritation, Marco put on a face of restrained anger and said, "Fine, think all you want. I won't bother you!"
Resisting the urge to punch Reno, Marco turned and walked away. If it had been daytime, he might have fought Reno for three hundred rounds, but it was late, and most of the crew was resting. Causing a commotion would disturb others, so Marco held back.
After Marco left, Reno withdrew his gaze. Midnight was fast approaching, and with it, the completion of his fifteen-day check-in task.
The system currently offered Reno rewards solely through check-in tasks, as he couldn't yet access its other functions.
With the task nearing completion, Reno had no time to chat with Marco. A few short words had been enough to send him away.
Now alone, Reno watched the seconds tick by as the check-in time drew closer.
[Host, the time has come. Would you like to check in now?]
"I've been waiting for this moment. Start the check-in!"
Without hesitation, Reno initiated the check-in. After all, he had been waiting all night for this moment.
[Congratulations, Host. Check-in successful.]
[Congratulations, Host. Fifteen-day check-in task completed.]
[Distributing rewards…]
Hearing the word "rewards," Reno got excited. He wondered what abilities he would get this time, though he secretly hoped for attribute points.
Abilities were nice, but he couldn't master too many at once. Attribute points, on the other hand, were more practical for immediate growth.
That said, abilities like spatial coordinates were very convenient as they didn't require much practice, unlike telekinesis, which needed deliberate effort to master.
[Congratulations, Host. You have received: one Observation Haki Awakening Card.]
[Congratulations, Host. You have received: one Armament Haki Awakening Card.]
[Congratulations, Host. You have received: 100 attribute points.]
[Haki Awakening Card Explanation: Using the card will awaken the respective Haki. Awakening strength depends on the host's current condition. Armament Haki strength correlates with physical fitness, while Observation Haki depends on mental strength. There are no side effects.]
Seeing the rewards, Reno nearly jumped up in excitement. In the world of pirates, having no Haki is like having no soul!
After calming down, Reno examined the descriptions of the rewards. When he saw that Observation Haki was tied to mental strength, he thought to himself, If that's the case, wouldn't my unlimited mental strength mean max-level Observation Haki upon awakening?
However, when he read about Armament Haki, his face darkened. Its strength was tied to physical fitness, and with his current frail body, barely above an average person's, awakening Armament Haki would be no better than starting from scratch.
Even so, Reno felt reassured when he remembered the 100 attribute points he could distribute. But he decided not to use the Armament Haki Awakening Card just yet.
The reason was simple: the strength of the awakened Haki would depend on his physical condition at the time of awakening. If he used it now, with his physical stats only in the twenties, the awakened Armament Haki would also be at the same level.
It would be far better to wait until his physical stats were higher to awaken a stronger Armament Haki.
Using the card now would result in two separate stats (physical and Haki), requiring double the attribute points to improve. Only a fool would awaken Armament Haki now!
[Would the Host like to use the Awakening Cards now?]
Hearing the system prompt, Reno decided that while he wouldn't use the Armament Haki card yet, he could safely use the Observation Haki Awakening Card. "System, use the Observation Haki Awakening Card. Hold off on the Armament card for now."
The moment Reno spoke, a golden card materialized in front of him. It transformed into a beam of golden light and shot straight into his forehead, disappearing in an instant.
The entire process happened in the blink of an eye, unnoticed even by Marco and the others chatting nearby.
As the golden light entered his mind, Reno felt a surge of knowledge about using Observation Haki. It was as if the ability had become an instinctive part of him.
Curious, he activated the ability. Instantly, a three-hundred-sixty-degree view of his surroundings appeared in his mind, with every detail crystal clear.
Closing his eyes, Reno marveled at the scene in his head. This Observation Haki is incredible. It's like having a bird's-eye view. I wonder how far its range extends.
