Chapter 20 - The First Time Mira Misses Him

That night, Mira fell asleep expecting the rooftop.

The cool wind.

The glowing city lights.

And the mysterious dream conversation that had somehow become a part of her routine.

But when she opened her eyes…

There was nothing.

Just darkness.

Silence.

And then morning.

Sunlight slowly filled her room.

Mira blinked and sat up.

For a moment she stayed still, trying to remember the dream.

But there was no rooftop.

No conversation.

No calm voice teasing her.

Just an empty night of sleep.

She frowned slightly.

"That's strange."

Usually she woke up remembering every detail of the dream.

But today her mind was blank.

She got out of bed and stretched.

"Okay," she said to herself.

"Normal sleep. Nothing weird."

That should have felt good.

After all, she had been telling herself for days that the dreams were strange.

Illogical.

Probably just her brain mixing music, stress, and imagination.

So why did she feel a little… disappointed?

Mira pushed the thought away and continued her morning routine.

House chores.

Breakfast.

Getting ready for the office.

Everything was exactly the same as every other day.

But something felt slightly different.

Her mind kept wandering back to the same thought.

There was no dream.

On the bus ride to work, Mira put on her headphones.

Music started playing.

Normally she enjoyed this quiet moment during the commute.

Watching the city move past the window.

Letting rap lyrics fill her thoughts.

But today something felt missing.

She caught herself thinking about the rooftop again.

About the conversations.

About the way he always appeared behind her without warning.

Mira sighed.

"Seriously?" she muttered.

"Am I actually missing a dream character?"

At the office, Mira tried to focus on her work.

Emails.

Meetings.

Reports.

But every now and then she caught herself staring at the computer screen without really reading anything.

Her coworker noticed.

"You look distracted today," he said.

Mira blinked.

"Do I?"

"A little."

She forced a small smile.

"Just didn't sleep well."

That wasn't exactly a lie.

She had slept.

But it hadn't felt the same.

Later that evening, Mira returned home feeling unusually quiet.

After dinner, she went to her room and lay down on the bed.

Her playlist started playing automatically.

Soft rap beats filled the room.

She stared at the ceiling.

And without realizing it, she whispered something.

"Are you coming tonight?"

The words surprised even her.

She quickly covered her face with a pillow.

"Oh my god," she groaned.

"I'm talking to my dreams now."

But the truth was simple.

Those rooftop conversations had slowly become something she looked forward to.

Not because they were romantic.

Not because they were magical.

But because they felt… peaceful.

Someone listening.

Someone understanding her thoughts without judging them.

Even if that someone only existed when she was asleep.

Mira sat up and opened her diary.

She had started writing her thoughts there recently.

Sometimes about work.

Sometimes about music.

And sometimes about the strange dreams.

She picked up her pen and wrote slowly.

"Today I didn't see the rooftop."

"I thought I would feel relieved."

"Instead… it felt like something was missing."

She paused for a moment before writing the next line.

"Maybe I was starting to enjoy those conversations more than I realized."

After finishing the entry, Mira closed the diary and turned off the lights.

The room became quiet again.

She lay down and closed her eyes.

Before sleep finally took over, one last thought crossed her mind.

What if the dream doesn't come back?

The idea felt strangely disappointing.

Because somewhere between imagination and reality…

Mira had started looking forward to meeting someone who might not even exist.

And tonight…

For the first time…

She realized she actually missed him.
