Chapter 23 - The Dream That Feels Too Real

The next day, Mira couldn't stop thinking about the last thing he had said.

"They eventually wake up."

The sentence stayed in her mind like a quiet echo.

It felt less like an answer…

and more like a warning.

But warning or not, the dreams hadn't stopped.

And if anything, they were starting to feel even more real.

That evening after work, Mira returned home feeling tired but strangely thoughtful.

She helped with the usual house chores and ate dinner quietly.

Later, she went to her room and sat near the window.

Outside, the city lights were slowly turning on one by one.

Cars passed on the road.

People walked home after long days.

Everything looked ordinary.

Real.

Yet somehow the rooftop in her dreams felt just as familiar.

She put on her headphones and played her usual playlist.

Soft rap beats filled the room.

The lyrics spoke about thoughts, struggles, and emotions.

Mira closed her eyes for a moment.

Music had always been her escape.

A way to silence the noise in her head.

But lately…

The rooftop conversations had started doing the same thing.

And that thought made her uneasy.

Later that night, Mira lay down in bed.

Her room was quiet again.

She stared at the ceiling.

For the first time, she wondered something honestly.

Am I starting to depend on those dreams?

The idea made her uncomfortable.

But before she could think further, sleep slowly took over.

When Mira opened her eyes again…

The rooftop appeared.

The wind felt cool against her face.

The city lights stretched endlessly below.

She sighed quietly.

"Of course."

But this time something felt slightly different.

The night air felt sharper.

The lights seemed brighter.

Everything felt… clearer.

Almost too clear.

"You noticed."

Mira turned immediately.

He was standing a few steps away again.

Watching her carefully.

She crossed her arms.

"This place feels more real tonight."

He nodded slightly.

"That happens sometimes."

"What does?"

"When you start paying more attention."

Mira frowned.

"That sounds suspicious."

He smiled faintly.

"You say that a lot."

They walked toward the railing together again.

The city looked peaceful from above.

For a moment neither of them spoke.

Then Mira suddenly said something quietly.

"You were serious yesterday."

"About what?"

"About dreams being dangerous."

He didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he looked at the distant horizon.

"Dreams aren't dangerous."

"Then what is?"

"Forgetting they're dreams."

Mira sighed.

"You always talk like that."

"Like what?"

"Like you're trying to warn me without actually saying it."

He glanced at her.

"Maybe I am."

"Why?"

"Because some warnings are easier to ignore if they're too direct."

She raised an eyebrow.

"You're very mysterious for someone who might just be my imagination."

The wind moved softly across the rooftop.

Mira leaned against the railing again.

"You know something?" she said quietly.

"What?"

"These conversations feel too real."

"How so?"

She looked at him carefully.

"The wind feels real."

"The city lights look real."

"And you…"

She hesitated slightly.

"You feel real too."

He didn't respond immediately.

Instead, he watched her expression.

Then he asked softly,

"What would happen if I was real?"

Mira laughed nervously.

"That would be impossible."

"Why?"

"Because this is obviously a dream."

"And if it wasn't?"

She shook her head.

"No."

"That's not how reality works."

He smiled gently.

"Reality can be stranger than people expect."

Mira stayed quiet for a moment.

Then she said something without thinking.

"Can I try something?"

He looked curious.

"What?"

"I want to check something."

He raised an eyebrow.

"That sounds suspicious."

"Relax."

She stepped closer to him slowly.

Her heart was beating slightly faster now.

"Just don't disappear suddenly," she said.

"I'm not planning to."

Mira hesitated for a second.

Then carefully reached out her hand.

Her fingers lightly touched his hand.

And immediately her eyes widened.

Because she felt something.

Warmth.

Her hand quickly pulled back.

"What?"

Her voice sounded surprised.

"That… felt real."

He looked at her calmly.

"What were you expecting?"

"I don't know."

"Nothing maybe."

"But I definitely didn't expect that."

Mira stared at her own hand.

Her mind struggled to understand what had just happened.

"How can a dream feel like that?"

He leaned against the railing again.

"Your mind is powerful."

"That's your explanation?"

"It's the simplest one."

She narrowed her eyes.

"You're hiding something."

"Maybe."

The rooftop lights flickered again.

Mira immediately groaned.

"No!"

The dream was already fading.

She looked at him quickly.

"You felt that too, right?"

"What?"

"My hand."

He smiled slightly.

"I noticed."

"That's not a normal dream reaction."

"Maybe."

The city lights began to blur again.

Before everything disappeared, Mira asked one last question.

"Tell me honestly."

"What?"

"Why do these dreams feel so real?"

He looked at her quietly.

Then answered with a mysterious smile.

"Maybe…"

"…because part of you doesn't want them to end."

The rooftop vanished.

The wind disappeared.

And Mira woke up.

Morning sunlight filled her room again.

She sat up slowly.

Her heart was beating faster than usual.

Her eyes moved to her hand.

The same hand she had touched him with.

She stared at it for a moment.

Then whispered quietly.

"That definitely felt real."

And for the first time…

Mira started wondering if the dream world and reality were beginning to overlap.
