Chapter 27 - The Question That Changes Everything

The next morning felt unusually quiet.

Mira sat on the edge of her bed for a long moment after waking up.

Her mind was still replaying the conversation from the rooftop.

Especially the last question she had asked.

"What happens when I stop dreaming about you?"

She hadn't expected the dream to end right after that.

But maybe it was better that way.

Because the truth was…

She wasn't sure she was ready to hear the answer.

Mira sighed and finally stood up.

Her morning routine felt slower than usual.

While brushing her hair, she caught herself staring at her reflection in the mirror.

"You're really doing this," she muttered.

"Getting emotionally attached to a dream character."

If someone else told her this story, she would probably laugh.

But now it didn't feel funny anymore.

It felt confusing.

And strangely real.

At the office, Mira tried focusing on work again.

Emails.

Reports.

Meetings.

But every quiet moment brought the same thoughts back.

The rooftop.

The wind.

And the calm voice that always seemed to be waiting for her there.

During lunch break, Mira sat by the window with her tea.

Outside, people were walking quickly along the street.

Busy.

Focused.

Living normal lives.

Mira watched them quietly.

"I should focus on real life too," she whispered.

But deep down, she knew something.

Part of her was already waiting for the night.

Waiting to see if the rooftop would appear again.

That evening, Mira returned home feeling tired but restless.

She finished dinner and scrolled through her phone for a while.

But nothing held her attention.

Finally she placed the phone aside and lay down on her bed.

Her eyes moved toward the ceiling.

"What if he doesn't appear tonight?" she murmured.

The thought made her chest feel strangely heavy.

It was funny.

A few weeks ago, she didn't even believe in emotional attachment to celebrities or fictional characters.

Now she was worried about missing someone who existed only inside her dreams.

Sleep came slowly that night.

But when Mira finally opened her eyes again…

She knew immediately where she was.

The rooftop.

The same cool night air.

The same glowing city lights stretching endlessly below.

But tonight something felt slightly different.

The atmosphere felt quieter.

More serious.

"You look like you expected me."

Mira turned quickly.

He was standing near the railing again.

Watching her with that familiar calm expression.

She walked toward him slowly.

"I wasn't sure you'd appear tonight," she admitted.

"Why not?"

"Because of yesterday."

He leaned casually against the railing.

"Yesterday didn't seem like a goodbye."

"It kind of felt like one."

"Why?"

"Because the conversation ended too suddenly."

He nodded slightly.

"That's fair."

Mira stood beside him, looking at the city lights.

For a moment neither of them spoke.

The wind moved softly around them.

Then he spoke first.

"You asked an important question yesterday."

Mira looked at him.

"Which one?"

"What happens when you stop dreaming about me."

Her chest tightened slightly.

"Yeah."

He watched her expression carefully.

"You're afraid of that."

Mira didn't deny it.

"Maybe."

"Why?"

"Because I don't know what it means."

She looked down at her hands.

"These dreams started randomly."

"They could stop randomly too."

He stayed quiet for a moment.

Then asked something unexpected.

"What if they don't?"

Mira frowned slightly.

"What do you mean?"

"What if these dreams aren't random?"

She looked confused.

"Dreams are always random."

"Are they?"

Mira crossed her arms thoughtfully.

"Okay," she said.

"What are you suggesting?"

He looked directly at her.

"What if I'm not just part of your dream?"

For a moment…

Mira's brain completely stopped processing.

She blinked slowly.

"…What?"

He repeated calmly,

"What if I'm not just something your mind created?"

Mira stared at him.

Then suddenly laughed.

"Okay, that's the funniest thing you've said so far."

He didn't laugh.

That made her laughter slowly fade.

"You're joking… right?" she asked.

He didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he looked toward the city lights.

"Have you ever wondered why these dreams keep repeating?"

"Yes."

"Have you ever wondered why we have conversations that feel… continuous?"

Mira hesitated.

Because she had wondered about that.

Dreams usually felt random.

Disconnected.

But these dreams were different.

They felt like chapters of the same story.

Like two people meeting again and again.

Continuing conversations.

Remembering previous moments.

Mira shook her head slightly.

"No," she said.

"I'm not thinking about that."

"Why not?"

"Because that would make this even weirder."

He smiled slightly.

"That's a fair point."

Mira pointed at him.

"Also, don't try to scare me."

"I'm not."

"You literally just suggested you might not be part of my dream."

"I said what if."

"That's the same thing."

He laughed quietly.

"Relax."

"I am relaxed."

"You don't look relaxed."

"That's because you're being mysterious."

"Maybe."

Mira sighed dramatically.

"You're enjoying confusing me."

"Maybe a little."

She shook her head.

"You're impossible."

"Yet you keep coming back."

That sentence made Mira freeze slightly.

Because he was right.

No matter how strange these dreams felt…

She still wanted them to continue.

Before she could respond, the rooftop lights flickered again.

Mira groaned.

"This timing is terrible."

He smiled slightly.

"It always is."

The city lights slowly began fading again.

But before everything disappeared, he said one more thing.

"Think about the question."

Mira frowned.

"What question?"

He looked at her calmly.

"What if I'm not just part of your dream?"

Then the rooftop vanished.

And Mira woke up suddenly in her room.

Her heart was beating faster than usual.

She sat up slowly.

"That's ridiculous," she whispered.

But the strange part was…

Her mind kept replaying the question.

Because if he wasn't just part of her dream…

Then what exactly was happening?

And for the first time since these dreams began…

Mira felt both curious.

And slightly scared.
