OLIVIA'S POV
The book appears on Olivia's bed like magic.
She stands there holding it and trying to remember if she mentioned it to anyone. The book about community centers and nonprofit structures. She'd brought it up once in conversation. Just once. She'd said something like "I've been reading about how to run nonprofits" and then moved on because thinking about her dream was too painful.
Adrian remembered.
Olivia opens the cover and finds a receipt. It's dated from two days ago. While she was still sick. While she was still feverish and vulnerable. He'd gone to a bookstore and bought a book about her dream.
She presses the book against her chest and feels something break inside her that she needed to break.
This is more than the contract allows. This is Adrian showing her that he pays attention. That he listens. That he cares about the things she cares about.
The next day she finds expensive tea in his kitchen cabinet.
