Chapter 13 - A mistake to fix

W-What…?" Leo said, shocked.

"So my father came here because of the company?"

Werren looked at him and nodded.

"Yes."

Leo lowered his gaze.

"Then… why didn't you tell me before?"

Werren sighed.

"Because of your father," he replied.

"If I told you that Seth was behind everything, I would have had to tell you the whole story."

Leo clenched his fists.

"But you should have told me about Seth…"

"I did," Werren said calmly.

"I told you—and Dad—many times. I thought you understood."

Leo paused.

"…You did."

Then his expression darkened.

"But what's the point now? I already gave Seth the project files."

Werren saw the regret in Leo's eyes.

"Leo, don't overthink it," he said.

"I'll handle this. Don't worry."

With that, Werren left the room.

Leo stood there alone.

"…What have I done?" he whispered.

He ran his hand through his hair in frustration.

"So Seth was behind the company's downfall… and I still helped him."

He closed his eyes.

"Dad… I'm sorry."

Memories of his father came rushing back.

"He came here because of the company… and I didn't even listen to him back then."

Tears filled his eyes.

"That's why he was always busy… he was trying to save everything."

Leo took a deep breath.

"…I have to fix this."

His expression turned serious.

"If Father doesn't know about Seth… I need to tell him before it's too late."

The next day, Leo went straight to the company.

He walked quickly toward Mr. Miles' office.

But when he opened the door—

No one was there.

Leo turned to Rayan, who was nearby.

"Rayan, where is Father?"

Rayan replied politely,

"Sir, Mr. Miles went out to visit someone."

Leo froze.

"What…?"

"Is something wrong, sir?" Rayan asked.

Leo shook his head.

"No… it's nothing. You can go."

Rayan nodded and left.

Leo stood there, thinking.

"Oh no… what should I do now?"

Just then, a familiar voice called out—

"Hey, Leo."

He turned.

It was Emily.

"Oh, Emily," Leo said. "Hi. I'm fine… how are you?"

"I'm good," she replied with a smile.

"What are you doing here? Is Mr. Miles in his office? My father wanted to meet him."

Leo shook his head.

"No, he's not here. He went out somewhere."

"Oh… I see," Emily said.

Then she looked at Leo.

"By the way… if you're free today, would you like to have lunch with me?"

Leo paused for a second, then nodded.

"…Yeah. Sure."

Emily smiled.

"Great. I'll be waiting."

"See you," Leo said.

"See you," Emily replied softly.

Just then, Werren arrived.

"Oh, hi Emily," he said. "How are you?"

"I'm fine," she replied.

"I came to meet Mr. Miles, but he's not here."

"I see," Werren said before heading to his office.

Emily waved slightly at Leo.

"Bye."

Leo nodded.

Later, at lunchtime—

Emily sat at a table, waiting for Leo.

She checked the time nervously.

Just then, her phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Emily!" a cheerful voice said.

"Celeste! It's been so long," Emily smiled.

"How are you?"

"I'm good," Celeste replied. "What about you?"

"I'm fine."

"So… you went to meet Leo, right?" Celeste teased.

Emily was surprised.

"Hey—how do you know that?"

"I heard it from someone," Celeste laughed.

"So? Did you meet him?"

Emily nodded slightly.

"Yeah… I did."

"What did he say?" Celeste asked eagerly.

Emily hesitated.

"…Nothing special."

"Ah, that's disappointing," Celeste said.

"But how is he doing? After everything that happened…"

Emily's expression softened.

"He's better now… and he's working in his father's company."

"That's good to hear," Celeste said.

"So what are you doing right now?"

Emily hesitated again.

"…I'm waiting for Leo."

"What?!" Celeste said loudly.

"You mean you asked him out?"

Emily blushed.

"…Yeah. For lunch."

Celeste laughed.

"That's great! Emily, you've liked him for so long… since high school."

Emily went quiet.

"I think you should tell him how you feel," Celeste continued.

"You've been hiding it for too long."

Emily's heart started beating faster.

"…Tell him?"

Just then, she looked up—

And saw Leo walking toward her.

"Celeste, I have to go," Emily said quickly.

"Leo is here. I'll talk to you later."

"Alright—but think about what I said!" Celeste replied.

"Yeah… I will," Emily said softly before ending the call.

She took a deep breath.

"…Maybe I should tell him."

Then Leo reached the table.
