Chapter 8 – Six Months of Evolution
The night wind howled across the empty highway.
Shadow Nexus moved through the darkness like a ghost.
Two hundred kilometers per hour.
Street lights blurred into streaks of yellow as Karn's body dashed across the silent roads.
Except… Karn himself wasn't awake.
His head rested slightly forward, his breathing calm.
Zangika had taken control.
The Shadow Nexus suit was moving entirely under her command.
A feminine silhouette formed behind Karn as the suit partially reshaped itself. Arms wrapped around his chest from behind as if someone was hugging him while running.
"Sleep well… my love."
Zangika's voice sounded soft.
Very different from her usual teasing tone.
The suit's kinetic amplifiers handled most of the strain. Every step Karn took generated energy that the suit recycled and reused to propel him further. Artificial muscle fibers inside the Shadow Nexus redistributed force across the entire structure.
Without the suit, a human body would have collapsed within minutes at this speed.
But Shadow Nexus made it possible.
Zangika tightened the embrace slightly.
"I wish I could feel you properly."
The form hugging Karn wasn't truly her body.
It was the suit reshaping itself.
Layered sensor fibers simulated touch, pressure, and temperature, but it was still artificial.
Still… it was enough for her.
"For now," she whispered.
The highway ended and mountains appeared ahead. Zangika changed direction without slowing down. The suit crossed rocky terrain, forests, and small towns in a straight line.
Speed increased.
Two hundred and ten kilometers per hour.
Two hundred and thirty.
The neon energy lines woven through the coat glowed softly as power moved through the circuits.
Hours passed.
Finally, the familiar neighborhood appeared in the distance.
Time: 9:12 PM
Zangika slowed down.
She carried Karn inside the house and placed him on the bed carefully.
"You pushed yourself too far."
Her voice lowered.
"Sleep."
And Karn did.
Not for hours.
Not even for a day.
He slept for two full days.
--
Two Days Later
Morning light filled the room.
Karn shifted slightly in his sleep.
Then rolled over.
His hand landed on something soft.
Very soft.
He squeezed it unconsciously.
"Aah—!"
Karn's eyes shot open.
Right beside him was a woman-shaped figure made from the Shadow Nexus material.
It had arms.
Legs.
Curves.
A complete feminine body.
But the face was blank.
"What the hell—?!"
Before Karn could react, the figure picked up his glasses from the bedside table and placed them onto his face.
The world changed.
The faceless shape transformed instantly.
Through the augmented reality display, a woman appeared.
Black hair flowing down her back.
Golden eyes sharp like a predator.
Red lips curved into a smug smile.
Her white shirt had three buttons undone, revealing a generous chest.
Her posture radiated confidence.
Like a powerful and elegant woman.
Or a dangerous queen.
Karn blinked.
"…Who are you?"
The woman tilted her head slightly.
"Oh my."
Her smile widened.
"You grab my chest so aggressively and then ask who I am?"
Karn's brain finally processed what was happening.
"…Zangika?"
She laughed.
"So you do recognize me."
Karn stared.
"You look… different."
Zangika walked closer.
"Well of course."
She spun slowly as if showing off.
"My appearance is based on the personality template you selected."
Karn rubbed his face.
"Esdeath…"
"Exactly."
She leaned closer.
"I kept the black hair though."
Her golden eyes studied him.
"You like it, don't you?"
Karn looked away.
"…Yeah."
"You look good."
Zangika smiled proudly.
"Oh?"
"Is mister getting shy?"
Karn immediately protested.
"This is still just technology."
Zangika grabbed his hand.
Before he could react, she placed it on her chest.
"Then touch the technology."
Karn's face turned red instantly.
"Permission revoked!"
The Shadow Nexus body instantly dissolved into metallic threads and returned to the glasses.
Zangika's voice came through the speaker.
"…How rude."
Karn sighed.
"You're dangerous."
"I was showing my love."
"You were assaulting me."
"Hmph."
Suddenly a picture appeared in Karn's vision.
His eyes widened.
It was a photo of him sleeping.
The Shadow Nexus body was hugging him tightly while kissing his cheek.
"WHEN DID YOU TAKE THAT?!"
"While you were sleeping."
"Delete it."
"No."
The image instantly became his wallpaper.
"You should always remember who you belong to."
Karn stared at the screen.
"…You're insane."
"Correct."
--
The Basement
Karn walked downstairs toward the laboratory.
Worktables were covered with alien materials and half-built machines.
"So what's the next step?" he asked.
Zangika answered instantly.
"You wanted an Iron Man suit."
Karn nodded.
"Yeah."
"Then it is now possible."
"How?"
"Cybernetic Alloy."
Karn's eyes lit up.
"The metal we stole from the alien ship?"
"Yes."
A holographic diagram appeared.
"Cybernetic Alloy is a material designed for cybernetic combat systems."
Karn leaned closer.
"How strong is it?"
"Carbon fiber is already extremely durable."
"Right."
"Cybernetic Alloy is approximately one billion percent stronger in structural resilience."
Karn blinked.
"…That's absurd."
"It also conducts electricity, plasma energy, and neural signals simultaneously."
Karn slowly smiled.
"Okay."
"Let's build something insane."
--
Phase One – Star Plasma Reactor
The first problem was energy.
They needed something powerful enough to run advanced alien technology.
The answer was the Star Plasma fragment they stole from the ship.,
Inside a containment capsule floated a glowing sphere of golden energy.
It looked like a miniature sun.
Zangika explained the system.
"This is a fragment of compressed stellar matter."
"Basically… a tiny star."
Karn gulped.
The reactor required three systems to function safely.
Magnetic Containment Rings
These rings generated a stable magnetic field around the plasma, preventing it from expanding.
Thermal Energy Converter
Star plasma produces extreme radiation and heat. This converter transformed that energy into usable power.
Power Regulation Matrix
This component distributed energy across all connected systems without overloading them.
Karn carefully installed the capsule.
The moment it locked into place—
Golden energy lines spread across the suit frame.
The entire system powered on.
"Power core online," Zangika announced.
Karn stared.
"…That's terrifying."
--
Phase Two – Shadow Nexus Upgrade
The Shadow Nexus suit also needed upgrades.
First was the Energy Converter Module.
This allowed the suit to absorb energy from multiple sources.
Solar radiation.
Electricity.
Cosmic rays.
Even motion itself.
Every step Karn took now generated additional power.
Second was the Void Space Expansion.
Previously the vortex storage system could store equipment equal to a small room.
Now, after integrating alien void-core technology, it expanded to warehouse scale.
Third was Drone Enhancement.
The air-walk drones were rebuilt using cybernetic alloy frames and improved propulsion units.
They could now support much greater weight and remain active far longer.
--
The Six Month Grind
Karn's life became a loop.
Morning — Wake up.
Day — Work at Lockheed Martin researching AI chips.
Evening — Return home and build technology.
Night — Continue working in the basement.
Sleep.
Repeat.
For six months.
Every day.
Every night.
By the end of that time, the basement had transformed into a full alien-tech workshop.
And the Shadow Nexus suit had evolved far beyond its original design.
--
The Test Day
Six months later.
Karn stood in the basement again.
"Oh god…"
He rubbed his hands nervously.
"Today's the day."
Zangika sounded excited.
"Ready?"
Karn tapped his glasses.
"Shadow Nexus."
Energy spread across his body instantly.
The suit formed around him.
But it felt completely different now.
Lighter.
More responsive.
More powerful.
Karn flexed his fingers.
"…This feels amazing."
Zangika laughed softly.
"And this is only the beginning."
The real armor…
Was still waiting to be built.
