CHAPTER EIGHT
FIRST KISS
The night felt different, not quieter, not darker but heavy with something unspoken lingering in the air. Lena stood by window, her fingers lightly brushing the edge of the curtain as she gazed out at the city below. The light shimmered endlessly, but her thoughts were far from the world outside. Adrian hasn't move much since their last conversation. He stood a few steps away, his presence steady yet conflicted. His usual composure was still there but tonight it felt thinner. Like something beneath it was trying to break through. " you've been quiet," Lena said softly Adrian exhaled softly. " so have you." She turned to face him , their eyes met instantly. And held " I'm thinking," she admitted, "about what?" Lena hesitated, then chose honestly. "About us." The word hung between them. Simple but powerful enough to change everything. Adrian jaw tightened slightly. "That's dangerous." Lena gave a faint, almost amused smile. "Everything about this is dangerously." "That doesn't mean we should make it worse." She stepped closer. " And pretending there's nothing here make it better?" Adrian didn't answer, because he couldn't. The silence stretched but it wasn't empty. It was filled with tension, with awareness, and with something growing stronger every second. "You feel it too.? Lena said quietly. It's wasn't a question. Adrian voice dropped " yes."The honesty is that single word shifted everything. Lena heartbeat faster. "Then why are you fighting it ?" "Because I know where this lead ." "And where is that. "Pain." Lena shook her head gently, "or maybe it leads to something real. Adrian look at her like that possibility was more frightening than anything else. "You dont understand my world," he said. "Then stop shutting me out of it." "I'm trying to protect you." "And I'm trying to be part of your life," she replied softly. That stopped him completely. The distance between them suddenly felt too small. And yet not small enough. Lena took another step forward. Now , she was close enough to hear his breathing , close enough to feel the tension radiating from from him. " I'm not afraid of this ," she whispered. Adrian voice was barely steady. "I am ." Her expression softened. "Of me?" A pause, then "no ," he said quietly. "Of what you make me feel." The words wrapped around her heart, tight, warm and dangerous. Lena lifted her gaze fully to his. "You don't have to run from it." "I don't know how to stay." he admitted. "Then don't think," she said quietly, " just feel." The words seemed too slow, every second stretching into something fragile. Adrian stepped closer. Not cautiously this time, not hesitantly. But with quite certainty. His hands lifted slowly brushing against her cheek. The touch was soft , almost reverent, as if he was afraid she might disappear if he wasn't careful.
Lena's breath caught, but she didn't push away instead she leaned into his hands. That was all it took. The last barrier between them shattered. Adrian closed the distance and kissed her. The moment was everything they have been holding back. Not rushed not uncertain, but deep intentional and real. Lena felt her heart race as she responded, her hands resting against his chest, grounding herself in the warmth of him. The world outside disappeared. No danger, no past, no future just this moment. His hand moved gently to the back of her neck, pulling her slightly closer not forcefully, but protectively. Like he never wanted to let go. Time lost meaning, seconds felt like minutes or maybe longer. When they finally pulled apart, the silence returned. But it had changed it was softer now full and alive. Lena looked up at him, her voice barely a whisper. "So this is real." Adrian rested his forehead lightly on her ear." Yes." She searched his eyes "no running?" A faint almost reluctant smile touched his lips. "No running." For the first time since all of this began, Adrian looked at peace, but peace never lasted long , a sharp vibration cut through the moment, his phone, the shift was immediate. The warmth faded from his expression, replaced by instinct, by caution and by danger . He checked the screen and everything changed again. Lena watched him carefully. "What is it?" Adrian turned the phone toward her . A message , unknown number. "Beautiful moment." Lena's breath caught. Another message appeared instantly. "Let's see how long it survives." The room felt colder, smaller and unsafe. Adrian voice dropped. "He is watching." And just like that their first kiss, became the beginning of something far more dangerous.
