The rooftop was filled with silence, but it wasn't calm. It was the kind of silence that comes just before everything explodes. Meera stood in front of Aarav, her hand tightly gripping the Shadow Hunter's blade. The metal should have cut through her skin instantly… but it didn't. A faint blue glow surrounded her hand, stopping the weapon like an invisible shield. The Shadow Hunter didn't move. For the first time since its arrival, it looked uncertain.
Rayan slowly blinked, staring at Meera like his brain had stopped working. "Okay… I am officially confused," he said. "First Aarav, now you? Is there a buy-one-get-one-free offer for these powers?"
Meera didn't reply. Her eyes were glowing the same blue as Aarav's. Calm. Focused. Different.
Aarav stared at her in shock. "Meera… since when?"
For a moment, she didn't answer. Then slowly, she pushed the blade away and stepped back. "Since before you," she said quietly.
The words hit harder than the fight itself.
Before Aarav could ask anything else, the Shadow Hunter suddenly moved. Its sword flashed again, aiming straight at Meera this time. But Aarav reacted instantly. Blue energy burst around his arm as he blocked the attack mid-air.
CLANG.
A shockwave spread across the rooftop.Rayan jumped back. "WHY IS THIS TURNING INTO AN ACTION MOVIE?!"Zippu floated between them, glowing brighter than before. "Focus!" he snapped. "This isn't over!"
The Shadow Hunter stepped back slowly, observing both Aarav and Meera now. "Interesting," it said in a calm voice. "Two Dream Walkers… this was not expected."
Rayan raised his hand nervously. "Yeah… same here."The Hunter tilted its head slightly, then suddenly vanished again."Not again—" Rayan started.Too late.
The Shadow Hunter reappeared above them, mid-air, its blade glowing dark purple as it came crashing down. Aarav grabbed Meera's hand instinctively and pulled her aside. The attack hit the ground instead.
BOOM.
The rooftop cracked, dust rising into the air.
For a second, everything blurred.
Then—Aarav and Meera looked at each other.
Something felt different.Like their powers were reacting.Synchronizing.Zippu noticed it instantly. "Wait… don't fight separately!" he shouted. "Your energies are connected!"
Rayan blinked. "Connected? Like Wi-Fi??"
"No!" Zippu snapped. "Like—ugh, just stand together!"
The Shadow Hunter attacked again, faster than before. But this time, Aarav didn't move alone. Meera stepped forward with him.
Their hands almost touched—And suddenly—A bright surge of blue energy exploded between them.WHOOSH.The air itself pushed back.
The Hunter stopped mid-attack.For the first time… it stepped back.Rayan's jaw dropped. "Okay… THAT was cool."Aarav looked at his hand, then at Meera. "What was that?"
Meera shook her head slightly. "I don't know… but it felt…""Right," Aarav completed.
The Shadow Hunter straightened up slowly. "So this is your true ability," it said. "Synchronization."
Zippu's eyes widened. "That's not possible… they shouldn't be able to do that yet…"
Rayan pointed at them proudly. "Well, surprise. My friends are overpowered."
The Hunter raised its blade again, but this time it didn't attack immediately. It was thinking.
Calculating.
Then it spoke quietly, "This changes things."
Suddenly, the air around them grew colder.
Much colder.
Zippu froze.
"No…" he whispered.
Aarav frowned. "What now?"
Zippu slowly looked toward the sky.
"He's watching."
Aarav's heart skipped a beat.
"Who?"
Zippu's voice dropped.
"The Shadow King."
At that exact moment, the portal behind the Hunter flickered again—but this time it wasn't unstable.
It was controlled.
A deep, calm voice echoed from within.
"Enough."
Everything stopped.
Even the Shadow Hunter stepped back respectfully.
The voice continued—
"Return."
The Hunter lowered its blade immediately. "As you command."
Before leaving, it looked at Aarav and Meera one last time.
"This is not over."
Then it stepped back into the portal and disappeared.
The Rift closed instantly.
Silence returned.
Rayan slowly sat down on the ground. "Okay… I am done. I did not sign up for this level of danger."
But nobody laughed this time.
Because Aarav was still staring at the place where the portal had been.
That voice…
It felt too real.
Meera stepped beside him quietly.
"He knows us now," she said.
Aarav nodded slowly.
"Yeah."
Zippu floated between them, unusually serious.
"And next time…"
"He won't send a soldier."
A cold wind passed across the rooftop.
Aarav clenched his fist.
Because deep inside, he knew one thing for sureThe real battle hadn't even started yet.
