The moment Aarav's vision snapped back to reality, he stumbled backward, gasping for breath as if he had just escaped drowning. The rooftop was still there, Meera was holding his arm, Rayan was panicking as usual, and Zippu was floating in front of him—but something felt off. "You disappeared for a second," Meera said sharply, her grip tightening. "What did you see?" Aarav didn't answer immediately. His eyes were still unfocused. "He's not just watching," he finally said in a low voice. "He's trying to connect." Rayan immediately stepped back. "Okay, I officially don't like this guy." But before anyone could react further, Zippu suddenly turned toward the city again, his glow flickering violently. "It's spreading," he whispered.
Across the city, chaos was slowly beginning to wake up. A crowded street suddenly lost power, lights flickering one by one until darkness swallowed the entire block. People looked around in confusion, murmuring, unaware of what was really happening. Behind them, shadows stretched unnaturally along the walls, slowly peeling away from their original shapes. One shadow twisted into something tall and thin, its form shaking like unstable smoke, before it silently moved forward. No one noticed—except a small child, who pointed at it in fear. But by the time anyone looked, it was gone.
Back on the rooftop, Aarav felt it too now. The same pull, but stronger. "It's not just one place," he said, looking at Meera. "It's happening everywhere." Meera's expression hardened. "Then we don't wait." Rayan blinked. "Wait for what?" Meera turned toward the stairs. "We go down." Rayan groaned. "Of course we do. Because staying safe is overrated." But he still followed.
As they rushed through the building, the atmosphere kept changing. The air felt colder, heavier, like something invisible was watching from every corner. When they reached the ground floor, the glass door was already shattered from earlier—but now the street outside looked completely different. Empty. Silent. Wrong. "This city was normal ten minutes ago," Rayan whispered. "What happened?" Zippu floated ahead cautiously. "The boundary between worlds is weakening."
Suddenly, a loud metallic sound echoed from the alley nearby.
CLANG.
Everyone froze.
"That's new," Aarav said.
They slowly moved toward the alley, each step heavier than the last. As they turned the corner, they saw it—a streetlight flickering violently, sparks falling like rain. Beneath it, three shadowy figures stood, their forms unstable, like they were struggling to stay real. One of them turned slowly toward Aarav.
"Aarav…"
The voice wasn't human.
Rayan immediately stepped behind Aarav. "Why is everything obsessed with your name?!"
The shadows suddenly rushed forward.
Fast.
Too fast.
Aarav reacted instantly, his hand glowing blue as he blocked the first attack. The impact pushed him back, his shoes scraping against the ground. Meera moved beside him without hesitation, her own energy igniting again. "Left," she said calmly. Aarav didn't question it—he moved exactly as she said. A shadow passed right where he had been standing a second ago.
"Okay, teamwork unlocked," Rayan muttered, ducking behind a broken wall.
The shadows attacked again, this time splitting apart mid-movement, surrounding them from different angles. "That's cheating!" Rayan shouted. Zippu flew upward, glowing brightly. "They're unstable! Don't let them merge!" Aarav frowned. "Merge?" Too late.
The shadows suddenly fused together, forming a larger, more solid creature.
"Yeah… I liked them better before," Rayan said nervously.
The creature roared—a distorted, echoing sound—and charged.
This time, Aarav and Meera didn't hesitate.
They moved together.
Perfectly synchronized.
Their energies collided and expanded, forming a powerful blue shockwave that hit the creature directly. The impact sent it crashing into the wall, cracks spreading across the concrete. For a moment, everything went still.
Then—
the creature started laughing.
A deep, broken sound.
Zippu froze. "That's not normal… Fragments aren't supposed to think!"
The creature slowly stood up again, its form stabilizing more than before. "The King… is coming…" it whispered.
Aarav felt a chill run down his spine.
Before they could attack again, the creature suddenly collapsed into shadows and disappeared into the ground.
Silence returned.
Heavy. Uncomfortable silence.
Rayan slowly peeked out. "So… did we win?"
"No," Meera said immediately.
Aarav was still staring at the ground where the creature vanished.
"It was just a message."
Zippu nodded slowly, his glow dim again. "And not a good one."
Aarav clenched his fists.
Because now he understood—
This wasn't random.
This wasn't an accident.
This was the beginning.
And somewhere far beyond their world…
someone was preparing for something much bigger.
Something they weren't ready for.
A cold wind passed through the empty street.
And this time—
it didn't feel like fear.
It felt like a warning.
