Chapter 30 — The Path Ahead (part 2)

The wind moved quietly across the upper terraces of the House of El tower.

Kara had already returned inside, leaving Von-Ra alone once more with his thoughts and the endless skyline of Kandor.

Night was beginning to fall across Krypton.

The red sun dipped lower, casting long shadows between the towering crystal structures of the capital.

Von-Ra remained leaning against the terrace railing, his mind still running through countless possibilities—plans within plans, futures branching endlessly like the veins of the planet beneath his feet.

Then something unusual happened.

A group of armored figures approached through the main terrace entrance.

Von-Ra turned slightly.

At the front of the group stood Dru-Zod.

Behind him walked his son Koryn, along with several elders of the House of Zod. Their armor carried the ancient crest of the Zod lineage—one of the oldest military houses of Krypton.

The moment they stepped onto the terrace…

They knelt.

Every one of them.

Dru-Zod lowered himself onto one knee.

Koryn followed immediately.

Even the elders of the House of Zod bowed their heads.

At the same moment, Zor-El and Alura, who had been speaking quietly near the entrance to the chamber behind Von-Ra, froze in surprise.

The sight was so unexpected that even they remained silent.

Von-Ra frowned slightly.

His eyes moved across the kneeling warriors.

Then he spoke.

"What is the meaning of this?"

His voice was calm, but clearly confused.

"Why are you all kneeling and swearing loyalty in front of me?"

For a moment, none of them moved.

Then Dru-Zod slowly raised his head.

His voice carried the firm authority of a lifelong soldier.

"We of the House of Zod swear loyalty to the one and only Emperor."

His eyes locked directly onto Von-Ra.

"Your Highness… Von-Ra El."

The words hung in the air.

Zor-El's eyes widened slightly.

Even Alura looked stunned.

Von-Ra stared at them in silence.

Dru-Zod continued.

"The House of Zod has served the throne since the foundation of our race."

His voice deepened.

"We have never forgotten our duty."

His gaze hardened slightly.

"In ancient times… Krypton was not ruled by the council."

He gestured faintly toward the distant skyline of Kandor.

"It was ruled by an Imperial Throne."

The elders behind him bowed their heads further.

"The Imperial Family led our civilization. The Imperial Army protected it. The great houses served it."

His fists clenched slightly.

"But we lost our masters."

For a moment, his voice carried a faint trace of bitterness.

"When the ancient wars came."

Von-Ra's eyes narrowed slightly.

Ancient wars.

The history of Krypton was vast—but much of it had been altered by the council over the centuries.

Dru-Zod continued.

"We fought a cosmic war against many races across the stars."

"The Imperial Army fought on the front lines."

"The Imperial Family led the campaigns personally."

His voice darkened.

"But while the army fought beyond the stars…"

His eyes filled with cold anger.

"Those who remained behind… betrayed the throne."

"The council's ancestors."

Zor-El and Alura exchanged quiet glances.

Dru-Zod's voice grew sharper.

"They seized control of the Imperial Capital."

"The command chain collapsed."

"The proud and undefeated Imperial fleets were left without leadership."

"The war was lost."

His jaw tightened.

"The main family of the House of Zod fell alongside the Imperial Army."

For a moment, his voice lowered.

"We… the branch family… were the only ones who survived."

Koryn clenched his fists beside him.

"Because we were not considered a threat to their new rule."

Dru-Zod slowly raised his head again.

"But we never forgot."

His voice thundered across the terrace.

"WE WILL NOT FORGET!"

The elders behind him repeated the words quietly.

"We will not forget."

Dru-Zod's gaze returned to Von-Ra.

"For generations, we endured under the council's rule."

"We transferred our loyalty to Krypton itself… for the sake of our people."

"But we never recognized the council as rightful rulers."

His eyes burned with conviction.

"They are usurpers."

"They seized power when Krypton was most vulnerable."

"And now… history is repeating itself."

Von-Ra remained silent, absorbing every word.

Dru-Zod lowered his head again.

"But today… we see the truth."

He gestured slightly toward Von-Ra.

"The blood of the throne stands before us once more."

"The divine bloodline of Rao."

"The strength of a conqueror."

"And the mind of a ruler."

He bowed deeply.

"The House of Zod swears eternal loyalty to the throne."

"To you."

"Emperor Von-Ra El."

For several seconds, the terrace remained silent.

The wind moved softly between the towers of Kandor.

Finally, Von-Ra spoke again.

"You are making a dangerous declaration."

Dru-Zod nodded.

"We are aware."

"If the council hears of this… they will declare us traitors."

Von-Ra crossed his arms.

"And you are willing to risk that?"

Koryn finally spoke.

His voice carried fierce determination.

"We already lost our honor once."

His eyes burned with quiet intensity.

"We will not lose it again."

Von-Ra studied the kneeling warriors carefully.

Then he looked toward his parents.

Zor-El remained thoughtful.

Alura watched silently, clearly processing the weight of what was happening.

Finally, Von-Ra spoke.

"If what you say is true… then kneeling here will not be enough."

Dru-Zod raised his head slightly.

Von-Ra's golden eyes sharpened.

"Krypton is dying."

"Political loyalty alone will not save it."

Dru-Zod nodded.

"Then tell us what must be done."

Von-Ra turned slightly and looked across the distant skyline of Kandor.

"The council will continue arguing about the Core Stabilization Device."

"They will delay action."

"They will protect their power."

His gaze hardened.

"But Krypton needs preparation."

Zor-El finally stepped forward.

"We already proposed interstellar mining."

Dru-Zod nodded.

"That must happen."

Von-Ra continued.

"We must expand beyond this solar system."

"Mining fleets."

"Exploration vessels."

"Military escorts."

Koryn's eyes lit slightly.

"Colonies?"

Von-Ra nodded slowly.

"Yes."

"Outposts first."

"Then colonies."

Dru-Zod's voice grew quiet.

"You are planning an empire."

Von-Ra did not deny it.

"If Krypton is to survive long-term… it must become more than a single planet."

Alura crossed her arms thoughtfully.

"The council will resist that."

Von-Ra smiled faintly.

"They don't need to approve it immediately."

He looked back at Dru-Zod.

"The House of Zod controls a large portion of Krypton's military academies."

Dru-Zod nodded.

"That is correct."

"Then begin preparing."

Von-Ra said calmly.

"Train commanders."

"Develop fleets."

"Strengthen Krypton's military infrastructure."

Koryn grinned slightly.

"That part will be easy."

Von-Ra turned to his father.

"Meanwhile, the House of El will continue its scientific development."

Zor-El nodded slowly.

"The Core Stabilization Device."

"And more," Von-Ra replied.

Dru-Zod slowly stood, followed by Koryn and the elders.

He placed his fist over his chest.

"The House of Zod stands ready."

Von-Ra looked across them once more.

Then he gave a small nod.

"Then let us begin."
