Chapter 32 — Preparations for the Storm

Krypton stood at the edge of an unseen divide.

On one side, the Council tightened its grip on power, gathering loyal houses and preparing defenses to protect the rule they had maintained for centuries.

On the other side, two ancient houses moved in silence.

They were not preparing to rule.

They were preparing to survive.

Deep within the hidden shipyards controlled by the House of El, massive structures hummed with activity. Workers, engineers, and automated systems labored without pause as fleets of ships slowly took shape.

Some vessels were designed for reconnaissance.

Others for mining and ore transportation.

Still others were far larger, capable of carrying entire populations across the void of space.

Above the shipyards, inside a secured command chamber overlooking the construction platforms, Von-Ra stood before a floating holographic interface.

Beside him hovered Ruby, her projection shimmering softly as streams of data scrolled across the air.

Von-Ra crossed his arms as he studied the projections.

"How are the ships responsible for reconnaissance and ore transportation?" he asked calmly.

Ruby responded immediately.

"Progress remains within projected parameters."

A series of holographic images appeared in the air.

Several sleek vessels rotated slowly in the projection—long-range reconnaissance ships built for deep-space navigation.

Beside them appeared larger, reinforced vessels designed for asteroid mining and resource transport.

"The first wave of reconnaissance ships is currently at sixty-three percent completion," Ruby explained.

"Ore transportation vessels are progressing faster due to simplified structural designs. Estimated readiness for initial deployment: twelve Kryptonian cycles."

Von-Ra nodded slightly.

"Good."

More data appeared in the air.

"Shipyard productivity has increased by twenty-one percent since cooperation with the House of Zod began," Ruby added.

"Their military engineers have optimized structural reinforcement and propulsion assembly."

A faint smile touched Von-Ra's lips.

"Of course they did."

Zod's people were warriors—but they were also some of Krypton's finest engineers when it came to military technology.

Von-Ra studied the projection for another moment.

Then he began issuing new instructions.

"Build additional escape pods," he said.

Ruby's sensors flickered.

"Please specify quantity."

"Enough for every member of the House of El and House of Zod."

Ruby processed the command.

"Understood."

Von-Ra continued.

"Transport all of them to the territory controlled by the House of Zod."

Ruby tilted slightly.

"You are prioritizing their survival probability."

"Yes," Von-Ra replied calmly.

"If Krypton falls, Zod's military infrastructure will provide the highest chance of organized evacuation."

Ruby logged the decision.

Von-Ra continued giving orders.

"Next."

His gaze sharpened slightly.

"Begin construction of my private vessel."

A new blueprint appeared above the console.

"This ship will include a nursery chamber."

Ruby paused briefly before confirming.

"A facility capable of generating and sustaining future generations of Kryptonians."

"Yes."

Von-Ra watched the blueprint carefully.

"If Krypton is lost… our people must still have a future."

The hologram shifted as Ruby began integrating the new specifications.

Von-Ra continued.

"Install a full laboratory complex within the ship."

"Add reinforced defensive systems."

"Layered shielding."

"Autonomous weapons platforms."

Ruby updated the design accordingly.

"Defense protocols integrated," she replied.

Von-Ra added another instruction.

"And install space-jump technology."

Ruby paused again.

"That technology remains experimental."

"I know."

Von-Ra's voice remained calm.

"But if we need to cross large sections of space quickly… it will be necessary."

Ruby acknowledged the command.

"Prototype integration will begin immediately."

Von-Ra then added another instruction.

"Construct a second vessel."

Ruby displayed another blueprint.

"This ship will belong to my mother."

He paused briefly before continuing.

"And a third for Aunt Lara and Uncle Jor-El."

Ruby recorded the commands.

"These vessels will be configured for emergency evacuation?"

"Yes."

"Understood."

Von-Ra then turned his attention toward another critical matter.

"Send a message to both houses."

Ruby focused on him.

"Content of message?"

"Tell them to begin gathering rare metals from across Krypton."

Ruby began listing possible materials.

"Include everything," Von-Ra continued.

"Rare minerals."

"Unique geological samples."

"Seeds."

"Native plant life."

"Rocks."

"Every chemical element available on this planet."

Ruby's sensors brightened slightly.

"You intend to preserve Krypton's biological and geological diversity."

Von-Ra nodded.

"Everything they gather will be delivered here."

Ruby tilted slightly.

"For storage?"

"Yes."

Von-Ra's golden eyes glimmered faintly.

"I will store them within my subspace reserves."

The room fell quiet for a moment as Ruby processed the implications.

"Understood."

Another stream of data began scrolling across the air.

Von-Ra remained silent for several seconds.

Then he gave his final command.

"Ruby."

"Yes, Master."

"Check my physiological status."

Ruby's sensors immediately began scanning him.

Light waves passed across his body as internal readings appeared within the holographic display.

"Analyzing cellular structure," Ruby announced.

"Comparing current biological state with previous baseline readings."

Several seconds passed.

Finally, Ruby spoke again.

"Analysis complete."

Von-Ra raised an eyebrow slightly.

"And?"

Ruby projected a detailed diagram of his internal structure.

"The fusion of Kryptonian, Viltrumite, and Rao-derived genetic signatures remains stable."

"Cellular density has increased by forty percent since the initial merge."

"Muscle fibers show accelerated adaptive growth."

Von-Ra listened quietly.

Ruby continued.

"Your Kryptonian abilities remain dormant under Krypton's red sun radiation."

"However, Viltrumite physiology continues to strengthen your baseline capabilities."

She paused briefly.

"And the divine genetic imprint associated with Rao continues influencing your neurological and hormonal structures."

Von-Ra smirked faintly.

"In simpler terms?"

Ruby responded immediately.

"You are becoming more powerful."

Von-Ra nodded slowly.

"Good."
