Volume 2 — Chapter 1: Awakening Movements
Morning light stretched across the vast mountains surrounding the Void Castle, though little of that light truly reached the fortress itself. The castle stood like a dark monument carved from reality itself—its towering black walls swallowing sunlight, its spires cutting into the sky like jagged blades.
The air around the fortress vibrated faintly with void energy.
Creatures that once terrorized entire regions now patrolled the surrounding forests silently. Massive beasts from previous monster waves roamed in disciplined patterns, their glowing eyes occasionally scanning the horizon.
They were no longer wild.
They were guardians.
And beyond them, within the deepest layer of defense, stood the most terrifying protectors of all.
The Warriors of the Void.
Figures clad in black armor that seemed to absorb light itself. Each one radiated overwhelming pressure, enough to make even high-level warriors collapse simply from standing nearby. They stood like statues across the inner perimeter of the castle.
Watching.
Waiting.
Protecting.
At the highest tower of the castle, one figure overlooked it all.
Icarus Grimm.
His wings of reality and void rested behind him, partially folded yet alive with faint movement, as if the wings themselves were breathing. Fragments of shimmering darkness rippled across their surface, occasionally forming shapes that resembled broken pieces of space.
Seraphine leaned against the stone railing a few steps away, staring out across the endless landscape.
The morning wind played with her silver hair as she stretched lazily.
"You know," she said casually, "most rulers would probably sleep in and enjoy having a fortress like this."
Icarus didn't move.
"Sleep wastes time."
Seraphine turned toward him with a faint smile.
"You say that, but you did sleep yesterday."
"That was calculation. Not rest."
She laughed softly.
"You're impossible."
Icarus ignored the comment, his gaze fixed on the distant horizon where faint flashes of battle could be seen. Small factions were already fighting monsters across the plains.
From this height, the battles looked insignificant.
Like insects fighting over scraps.
Seraphine followed his gaze.
"There's another fight starting down there," she said, pointing toward a valley far below. "That faction looks new."
Icarus observed silently.
Several dozen armored warriors were battling a massive monster that resembled a towering reptilian beast. Its claws tore through the ground while soldiers scattered desperately.
"They'll lose," Seraphine said after watching for a moment.
"Yes."
Her eyes shifted toward him.
"Are you going to help them?"
"No."
The answer came instantly.
Seraphine sighed.
"I didn't think so."
Nexus' voice suddenly appeared inside Icarus' mind.
[Master, world activity report available.]
"Speak."
A faint holographic projection appeared in front of Icarus.
Maps.
Energy readings.
Faction movements.
[Since the previous anomaly detection, global monster activity has increased by 21%.]
[Several minor factions have collapsed.]
[Remaining factions forming temporary alliances.]
Seraphine walked closer, leaning over slightly to observe the floating map.
"Looks messy."
"Predictable," Icarus replied.
Nexus continued.
[Additional anomaly detected during the night cycle.]
Icarus' eyes narrowed slightly.
"Explain."
[A powerful energy signature has appeared 870 kilometers northeast.]
[Classification probability: Creator Descendant.]
Seraphine blinked.
"A Creator Descendant already?"
"That's earlier than expected."
Nexus confirmed.
[Energy signature still active.]
[No confirmed challengers yet.]
Seraphine looked excited.
"That means it's just waiting there."
She glanced at Icarus.
"You're thinking about going."
"I am."
Her smile widened.
"Good. I was getting bored."
Icarus finally turned and walked toward the edge of the tower.
Seraphine followed immediately.
Below them, the massive courtyard of the castle stretched across hundreds of meters, filled with void soldiers and monstrous guardians.
Yet none dared move unless commanded.
Icarus stopped at the edge.
Without hesitation—
He stepped forward and walked straight off the tower.
Seraphine sighed.
"You really like dramatic exits."
Then she jumped after him.
The wind roared as gravity pulled them downward.
For a brief moment they simply fell through open air.
Then—
Icarus' wings exploded outward.
Reality twisted.
Massive wings formed from fragmented space and void energy unfolded behind him, stretching wider than the tower itself. The wings shimmered with dark crystalline structures while flowing shadows moved across their surface.
Seraphine stabilized beside him in midair.
"Still terrifying," she said while admiring them.
The wings twitched slightly.
They were aware.
Alive.
Suddenly—
A sharp metallic sound echoed through the sky.
CLANG.
A hidden projectile fired from the forest below shot upward toward Icarus.
Before he could even react—
One of the wings moved.
Instantly.
A shard of reality extended from the wing and intercepted the projectile midair, crushing it into dust.
Seraphine raised an eyebrow.
"See? That's what I mean."
"They protect you even when you're not paying attention."
Icarus glanced briefly at the shattered fragments falling below.
"Primitive weapon."
Seraphine looked down toward the forest.
"Oh."
A small group of warriors stood below, staring up at the sky in horror.
They had attempted an ambush.
Unfortunately—
They had chosen the worst possible target.
Seraphine crossed her arms.
"Should we deal with them?"
Icarus raised one hand slightly.
The air suddenly compressed.
An invisible wave of pressure descended upon the forest.
The warriors below collapsed instantly, pinned to the ground by overwhelming gravity.
Trees bent.
The earth cracked.
Then Icarus lowered his hand.
The pressure vanished.
The warriors remained unconscious.
Seraphine tilted her head.
"You didn't kill them."
"They are irrelevant."
"Fair enough."
Icarus turned toward the distant horizon.
"Destination locked."
Nexus responded instantly.
[Coordinates confirmed.]
The Creator Descendant's energy signal pulsed across the world like a beacon.
Seraphine floated closer to him as they began moving.
"Do you think it'll be stronger than the last one?"
"Possibly."
She grinned.
"I hope so."
The sky blurred as Icarus accelerated.
They crossed mountains in seconds.
Forests stretched endlessly beneath them.
Occasionally they passed battlefields where factions clashed against monsters.
At one location, hundreds of warriors were fighting a gigantic armored beast.
Seraphine watched the scene curiously.
"Should we help them?"
Icarus glanced down.
The battle was desperate.
Warriors were dying.
Yet the monster was slowly weakening.
"They will survive."
Seraphine shrugged.
"Alright."
They continued flying.
Hours passed.
Eventually—
A massive pillar of white energy appeared in the distance.
Even from hundreds of kilometers away, the energy was visible.
Seraphine pointed.
"There it is."
As they approached, the surrounding environment changed.
The land below had been completely destroyed.
Craters covered the ground.
Mountains had been sliced apart.
The battlefield looked like it had endured dozens of catastrophic battles already.
Yet in the center of it all—
Something stood waiting.
A tall humanoid figure made of shifting light and dark fragments.
The Creator Descendant.
Its body constantly changed shape, adjusting itself as if analyzing the world around it.
When Icarus arrived above the battlefield—
The entity slowly lifted its head.
Seraphine whispered quietly.
"It noticed us."
Of course it did.
Creator Descendants existed for one purpose.
Challenge.
Test.
Evolution.
Icarus slowly descended toward the battlefield.
His wings spread wide behind him, darkening the sky.
The moment his feet touched the ground—
The Creator Descendant moved.
Not attacking.
Observing.
Studying him.
Seraphine stepped slightly behind Icarus, watching carefully.
"So this is what they look like up close…"
Nexus spoke.
[Warning: adaptive entity analyzing Master's energy output.]
[Strength calibration beginning.]
The ground beneath the entity cracked as power surged through its body.
Its form shifted.
Growing stronger.
Matching Icarus' presence.
Seraphine smiled slightly.
"Well."
She glanced at Icarus.
"Looks like you got your challenge."
Icarus stepped forward.
His eyes cold.
His voice calm.
"Good."
Void energy erupted from his body.
And the battlefield trembled.
