There was a strange aura in the air now, a feeling that made my cheeks flush. It was difficult to keep myself composed but then Xavier clasped my hand gently, a show of confidence and surprisingly, it helped a little.
But then a loud, formal sounding voice spoke up.
"Alpha Xavier," It was an elderly looking man wearing a suit, his countenance dark as he glanced at me. But then his expression cleared slightly and he walked forward to welcome us.
"Elder Fallon," Xavier said, his tone neither too friendly nor angry. I kept on a mask of politeness and smiled without showing teeth. "I hear you were sick. What brings you here?"
His words must have hit a nerve, but Elder Fallon only smiled a little wider, though it didn't reach his eyes.
"Ah, I must have caused a misunderstanding. Just a small illness. I can still attend to my duties," the Elder said.
