Chapter 30 - Chapter 28: Eevee's Evolution

Chapter 28: Eevee's Evolution

The gang was now walking through a forest. Their next destination was Cinnabar Island, so Lyra could earn her seventh badge. Apart from Pichu and Pikachu, Lyra had Espeon and Zorua beside her as well. Espeon and Zorua were fond of Lyra and were happy to be with her.

Suddenly, their ears picked up a Pokémon crying, and they ran toward the sound. They found an Eevee tied to a tree by a rope. Lyra was surprised. "Who on earth did that?" she said, untying the Eevee.

"Do you think it's abandoned?" Misty asked.

"No, it actually has a collar," Lyra said, pointing to the Eevee's neck. The collar read 'Stone Town 3-14'.

"Let's go there," Brock suggested. "That way we can return Eevee to its owner and find out why it was tied to a tree." Lyra, Tomo, and Misty agreed. Zorua hopped onto Lyra's shoulder while Pichu happily rode on Espeon's back.

As they walked through the forest toward Stone Town, Brock explained, "I've heard of Stone Town. It's at the base of Evolution Mountain, where they say many evolutionary stones can be found."

Misty carried the Eevee, thinking fondly of her Vaporeon back at the Cerulean Gym. Lyra thought about the day she received her five Eevees from Bill and the times they evolved into Jolteon, Flareon, Vaporeon, Espeon, and Umbreon.

Just then, Lyra noticed something on the ground. "Hey, it's a Leaf Stone and a Shiny Stone," she said. "It seems you were right about the stones, Brock." She placed them in her rucksack, adding them to the collection of stones she had won from the S.S. Anne.

Finally, they reached the address on the collar. It was a large house with a big backyard where a garden party was in full swing. "It's a garden party," Brock noted.

They saw a Poliwhirl evolving into a Poliwrath with a Water Stone. Along with Poliwrath, they saw Vileplume, Cloyster, Starmie, Raichu, Ninetales, and Exeggutor—as well as Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon. "They are all Pokémon that evolved from stones," Brock said.

Lyra knew her Pikachu didn't want to evolve into Raichu; he wanted to stay as a Pikachu, and Lyra already had a Raichu anyway. Tomo didn't want to evolve his Growlithe into Arcanine either; he was happy with Growlithe just as he was.

Three boys wearing different colored clothes ran up to them.

"Welcome," said a boy with yellow spiky hair, "I'm Sparky."

"I'm Pyro," said the boy with red spiky hair.

"And I'm Rainer," said the boy with blue spiky hair.

"We are the Eevee brothers!" they said together.

When the brothers saw the Eevee, they were thrilled. "Thank you for finding Eevee," Sparky said. "It's the star of this party." Lyra was puzzled. If it's a star, why was it tied up? she thought.

"Hey Mikey," Sparky called out, "your Eevee is back." A little boy with brown hair stepped forward, and Eevee jumped into his arms.

The brothers explained that Mikey was going to be a trainer like them. Sparky had a Jolteon, Pyro had a Flareon, and Rainer had a Vaporeon. "At this party," Rainer said, "Mikey will be evolving his Eevee." Mikey looked at his Pokémon sadly. The three brothers began arguing about which evolution was best, each believing his own was superior.

Lyra grew annoyed. "Hold it!" she shouted. "Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon are all strong. I know because I have those three. And I have two other evolutions." She introduced her Espeon and released her Shiny Umbreon from her Pokéball. The brothers were amazed; they had never seen an Espeon or Umbreon before.

As they wandered the party, Lyra saw a trainer with a Ninetales. She decided it was time to evolve her Shiny Vulpix and her Skitty, whom she called Moon. "Hey Vulpix, Moon," she said, "do you want to evolve?" Both Pokémon nodded eagerly.

"Wow, you have a Shiny one! So you want to evolve your Vulpix and that Skitty?" Pyro asked. Lyra confirmed she needed a Fire Stone and a Moon Stone. Pyro handed them over.

Vulpix evolved into Ninetales, a fox-like Pokémon covered in thick, luxurious silvery-grey fur with nine long tails tipped in blue and gleaming red eyes.

"Ninetales!" she cried happily.

Moon evolved into Delcatty, a tan feline Pokémon with purple ears, a purple ruff-like collar, and a flower-like tuft on its tail.

"Meo!" she chirped.

"Wow, Ninetales, Moon," Lyra said, hugging them, "you're both gorgeous." She then returned them to their Pokéballs.

Sparky then asked, "Lyra, would you mind breeding your Espeon and Umbreon with our Pokémon?" Lyra saw her Espeon hitting it off with Sparky's Jolteon and her Umbreon with Pyro's Flareon. "I don't think my Pokémon mind at all," she giggled.

Sparky and Pyro led Lyra to a breeding room. "Who shall keep the eggs?" Lyra asked.

"You'll keep them," Sparky said, "as long as you mention who the fathers were."

"Gotcha, Sparky."

Meanwhile, Misty found Mikey sitting sadly on a bench. "May I ask what's wrong?" she asked.

"The truth is," Mikey sighed, "I don't want to evolve my Eevee. I like it the way it is."

"Is that why you tied it to a tree?"

"Only until the party was over. I'm happy with Eevee just staying Eevee."

"You should tell your brothers that," Misty advised. "They won't understand until you do. My friend Lyra doesn't want to evolve her Pikachu, her Pichu wears an Everstone, and Tomo is happy with his Growlithe as he is."

Just then, the elder brothers arrived. Mikey was about to speak up when an explosion went off. It was Team Rocket. They used a smokescreen from Weezing to distract everyone and stole all the Pokémon, the stones, and the food.

Lyra released her Swablu to blow away the smoke. "Swablu, search for them from the air!" Swablu chirped and took flight.

Team Rocket was driving away in a truck, celebrating their success. "We'll be rewarded for sure," Jessie grinned. What they didn't know was that Misty's Seel was leaving a trail of ice on the ground for the trainers to follow. Swablu spotted the trail and reported back to Lyra.

Team Rocket stopped by a lake to eat. "This is delicious!" James said, stuffing his face.

"What shall we do with the Eevee?" Meowth asked. They decided to evolve it, but they couldn't agree on which stone to use. Jessie suggested using the Fire, Water, and Thunder stones all at once to make a "powerful" Pokémon.

Just as they were about to try, a Flamethrower struck! Lyra and the gang arrived and freed the Pokémon.

"How did you find us?" Team Rocket demanded.

"My Seel left a trail," Misty smirked.

Team Rocket attacked. Rainer's Vaporeon was hurt by a combined tackle from Arbok and Weezing. Misty had Seel use Aurora Beam while Lyra's Pikachu and Pichu used Thunder Shock. Team Rocket was hurt but refused to give up.

Mikey stepped forward. "I'll finish this! Eevee, use a combination of Rage and Tackle!" Eevee charged and sent Team Rocket flying into the horizon.

"We won, Eevee!" Mikey cheered. Lyra, Misty, and Brock congratulated him.

"You were great, Mikey," Sparky said.

"And you won without evolving," Rainer added.

Mikey told them he wanted to be an Eevee trainer, and his brothers proudly accepted his decision.

Back at the party, Sparky handed Lyra two Eevee eggs. "Just remember to tell people who the fathers are," Pyro reminded her.

"Of course I will," Lyra promised.

The group congratulated Mikey one last time, and everyone lined up for a photo. Brock set the timer and ran into the frame just in time. It turned out to be a lovely photo.
