Chapter 8 - Picking Caroline

Alan returned to his house, his mansion, in a jubilant and a happy mood. He had successfully inserted himself into the plot of Mystic Falls, and it had been far easier than he had anticipated.

He did not even have to lift a finger. He had merely walked into the Mystic Grill when Caroline Forbes had appeared out of nowhere and had done the job for him. She had dragged him to Bonnie, Elena, and Stefan and had carried out the introductions. Without any fuss, he had seamlessly integrated into their lives. And Caroline was all too eager to get close to him.

After discovering the vault of grimoires that morning, he had spent the entire day learning the basics of magic and practicing several spells from those grimoires.

To his utter surprise, he was a natural. He was a genius. Was it because of his transmigration or because of his Wolverine powers? He did not know, and he did not wish to think much about it. Him being a natural genius was all that he cared for.

He was able to perform basic magic, such as igniting fire or letting a feather float, on his very first try. Even with complex spells, he succeeded within just a few attempts. Overall, he discovered that his aptitude for spellcasting was brilliant. He was able to understand the theory behind those spells with ease. In a single day, he had developed a solid understanding of magic and the spells.

Apart from this, he discovered two more things that were incredibly significant from his point of view.

The first was the forbidden spell or ritual that his family used to practice, which had caused the wider witch community to despise them. Alan was pleasantly surprised to uncover this rite. In fact, he was thrilled. It was going to be a formidable trump card in his hands.

The second thing he discovered was that his magical prowess was immense and almost limitless. In the first season, Bonnie and Sheila Bennett were incapable of opening the tomb where the vampires were buried due to a lack of power. Most of the witches needed some kind of celestial event to perform even a slightly taxing spell. Sheila had even died performing the spell for opening the tomb. Alan was never going to face such a problem.

Thanks to his Wolverine powers, he possessed an enormous amount of life force and, consequently, insane magical reserves. Furthermore, due to his rapid healing capabilities, any magical energy he spent could be recovered in an instant. Thus, he was spectacularly strong. Formidably strong. This realization left Alan even more exhilarated.

After tiring himself out for an entire day, Alan had decided to go for a spin in his car for relaxation and somehow he stumbled into the Mystic Grill. And there he encountered the major characters of the show.

It had been a great day for him, and tomorrow in the evening he was going to attend his first party of many in the future of Mystic Falls. People died, catastrophe struck, and vampires roamed the town, but the one thing which never stopped in Mystic Falls were its parties, balls, events, and gatherings. If nothing else to carry the plot, just call for a fundraiser, and that too at the worst time possible when someone would be planning a very bad move.

Tomorrow was also going to be the night when Mystic Falls would experience its first supernatural event, a vampire attack in years, where Damon was going to bite Vicki and maybe, just maybe, the very fortunate presence of Jeremy and Elena had saved Vicki from being fully drained by Damon.

Caroline was ready to depart for the party. The party was in the woods and she was dressed casually. Because of the location and the theme of the party, she did not have the option to go overboard with makeup and all her stuff, but she had put quite a lot of effort to appear as pretty as she could in her casual look.

Her mother was on her sheriff duty, and she was sitting, waiting, at her dining table with a nervous expression on her face. She was wondering, rather fearing, if Alan would come to pick her up. Though it was he who himself had asked to pick her up, she was not able to stop herself from being insecure. She was fearful of being ditched. If it happened, it would not be the first time that something like this would occur.

And her anxiety was not unfounded. After Alan had driven her home, he had not called once or even dropped a single message. How many times had her hands reached for her phone to send Alan a text, but she had stopped herself from doing so. She did not want to appear desperate and thus she had reached a decision that she would wait for fifteen more minutes before she would go to the party alone. After all, she could not be late to the party.

Caroline was still lost in her nervous and anxious thoughts when the blaring sound of a horn caught her attention. Her body instinctively jolted as she ran up to the window and peeked from beside the curtain. Her face turned into that of pure excitement and happiness as she spotted an open car in front of her gate with Alan Alejandro in the driver's seat. It was a red coloured car and a different one than she had ridden in yesterday.

Caroline schooled her expression as she approached the door, unbolted it, and stepped outside.

"Caroline," Alan called, his eyes settling on her.

"You look gorgeous and beautiful," he remarked after a moment of silence.

"Thank you," she giggled in response. "You too look dashing."

Alan was dressed in a casual blue coloured shirt and a brown jacket. And as Caroline had said, he was looking dashing.

"Thank you too," Alan said. "Come on."

Caroline strode forward as she unlocked the door and sat in the passenger seat.

"Shall we go?" Alan asked playfully.

"Yes," she replied with a beaming smile, and Alan pressed on the pedal as the car raced forward.
