Morning arrived quietly over Ravencrest University, though the silence felt unnatural compared to the normal rush of campus life. The sky was clear, but faint distortions shimmered occasionally in the air beyond the perimeter boundary. The Mana Wave had changed the world overnight, and even with the university stabilized, the outside remained unpredictable.
Cassian stood at the edge of the quad, watching the faint glow of the domain boundary ripple where his resonance field met the uncontrolled mana beyond it.
The dungeon beneath them pulsed steadily through the core network he had built. Every anchored node across the campus fed into that system, allowing Cassian to regulate the surrounding mana flow like a controlled circuit.
Behind him, footsteps approached.
Aurora stretched her arms above her head as she stepped beside him. "I could get used to waking up in a stabilized mana zone."
Cassian glanced at her briefly. "Better than waking up to another sovereign-class monster."
She grinned. "That too."
A moment later Elara joined them, holding a tablet that had been modified with a small mana sensor node attached to the back. The screen displayed a crude map of the campus with several glowing points scattered throughout.
"We have five unstable areas remaining," she said.
Cassian turned toward the display.
The glowing markers spread across the map:
• North Dormitory Complex
• Engineering Labs
• Athletic Stadium
• Library Basement
• Maintenance Tunnels beneath the west wing
Aurora whistled softly. "So basically the entire campus."
Elara shook her head slightly. "Not quite. The mana density in these areas is elevated, but the rest of the campus is stable under Cassian's domain field."
Cassian studied the markers carefully.
"These aren't full dungeons," he said.
"No," Elara agreed. "They're micro-fractures."
Aurora crossed her arms. "Meaning?"
Cassian explained calmly.
"The Mana Wave tore small holes between mana layers. Most of them close naturally, but some become unstable spawn points if left unattended."
Aurora nodded. "So monsters."
"Small ones," Cassian said. "But enough of them could destabilize the base."
Elara zoomed the map slightly.
"The dormitory complex is the most urgent. We're detecting uncontrolled awakening spikes."
Cassian wasn't surprised.
Dormitories were filled with students. Dozens of potential awakenings happening simultaneously could create chaotic mana surges.
"Then we start there," he said.
Aurora smirked. "Good. I've been itching for a proper warm-up."
They began walking toward the north side of campus.
As they moved, several students watched them with cautious curiosity. Word had already spread about the trio who cleared the dungeon and stabilized the base. Most people kept their distance, unsure how to approach them.
Cassian didn't mind.
Authority established itself through action.
The dormitory complex came into view soon after.
Three tall residential buildings surrounded a central courtyard, but the air here felt heavier. Faint streaks of raw mana flickered along the building walls, like static electricity made visible.
Elara stopped at the courtyard entrance.
"Mana density spike confirmed."
Aurora cracked her neck. "And I'm guessing that means something unpleasant inside."
Cassian extended his senses through the domain network.
The moment his resonance touched the dormitory building, he felt it.
Multiple unstable signatures.
Not monsters exactly.
Students.
Their awakenings were happening violently, without control.
Cassian stepped forward.
"We go in carefully," he said. "No aggressive attacks unless necessary."
Aurora raised an eyebrow. "You're worried about hurting them."
"They're not enemies," Cassian replied.
Elara nodded approvingly.
"That's the correct approach."
The three of them entered the building.
Inside, the hallway lights flickered as raw mana currents disrupted the electrical systems. Several doors had burst open from internal pressure.
From somewhere above them, a loud crash echoed through the stairwell.
Aurora looked up.
"Well, that sounds healthy."
Cassian moved toward the stairs.
The second floor was worse.
A student stood in the center of the hallway surrounded by swirling mana, their awakening completely out of control. Objects in the hallway floated erratically as bursts of energy pulsed outward.
Another student crouched nearby, shielding their head from flying debris.
Cassian raised his hand immediately.
"Don't move," he said calmly.
The awakened student barely seemed aware of his surroundings. Mana continued erupting from their body in chaotic bursts.
Elara stepped beside Cassian.
"Core instability," she whispered. "If it ruptures, the backlash could injure everyone on this floor."
Aurora glanced down the hallway. "So what's the plan?"
Cassian focused.
Instead of attacking, he activated a structural construct beneath the hallway floor.
[Mana Construct Activated]
Thin lines of blue energy spread across the ground, forming a stabilization lattice around the out-of-control student.
[Mana Consumed: 22]
The lattice didn't restrain them physically.
It regulated the surrounding mana pressure.
The violent energy bursts slowed slightly.
Elara immediately followed his move.
She created a delicate spiral pattern in the air, drawing excess mana away from the student's core and dispersing it harmlessly into the building's structure.
Aurora moved to protect the nearby students, guiding them farther down the hallway.
"Back up," she told them firmly. "Give them space."
Cassian stepped closer to the unstable awakening.
"Focus on your breathing," he said calmly.
The student looked at him through unfocused eyes.
"I can't—control it—"
"Yes, you can," Cassian replied. "The pressure is external. Let it flow outward."
Elara's mana spiral intensified slightly, easing the pressure on the student's core.
Slowly, the violent bursts weakened.
Objects dropped back to the floor.
The swirling aura faded.
After a few tense seconds, the student collapsed to their knees, breathing heavily.
Aurora let out a low whistle. "Well, that's one way to handle it."
Cassian turned toward Elara.
"How many more like that?"
She checked the scanner again.
"Three within this building."
Aurora grinned slightly.
"Guess we're not done yet."
Cassian nodded.
"This campus won't stabilize itself."
He extended his senses through the domain network again, feeling the dungeon core pulse beneath the ground.
The base was holding.
But clearing the remaining fractures and unstable awakenings would take time.
The first dungeon had been only the beginning.
Now they had to secure the entire university.
And once the campus was stable, the outside world would inevitably come knocking.
