Ashes of the Silent War: Shadow of the Leviathans
Chapter 11 – The Siege of Capitals
The human capital—Eryndor—was under siege.
From orbit, the city looked like a chessboard ripped apart. Skyscrapers lay in ruins, bridges collapsed into rivers, and fires burned across entire districts. Every alarm, every siren, every emergency broadcast was drowned beneath the monstrous roar of Abyss Titan Colossus.
The ground trembled as the Titan's massive feet crushed armored vehicles, fortifications, and buildings alike. Each step sent debris flying across streets like shrapnel. Millions of civilians had already fled, but hundreds of thousands remained trapped in the outer districts.
Regrouping the Hunters
Kael Varden crouched inside the command bunker beneath Eryndor's central tower. Around him, the surviving Leviathan Hunters were battered, exhausted, but alive.
"Listen," Kael said, voice low but commanding. "We don't have time. Colossus is moving faster than any of our intel predicted. We need a coordinated strike—rail cannons, plasma lances, missile swarms… everything we've got. We can't let it reach the heart of the city."
Captain Seren Vale stepped forward. "The secondary units are nearly wiped out, Commander. If we send everyone, we risk annihilation."
Kael's eyes hardened. "Then we're risking everything. Humanity's capital cannot fall."
Lyra spoke from a tactical station overlooking the city. "I've got a shot at the energy conduit on Colossus' neck, but it's nearly a kilometer away. Only one chance, and I'll need cover."
Kael nodded. "You'll have it. Hunters, create a perimeter—divert its attention long enough for Lyra to fire."
Humanity Strikes Back
The Leviathan Hunters emerged into the ruined streets, firing coordinated volleys of missiles, plasma lances, and rail gun rounds.
Colossus swatted vehicles and soldiers aside with terrifying precision. Buildings collapsed, sending plumes of smoke and fire into the sky.
Kael activated his exosuit and sprinted toward the Titan, leaping atop debris-covered rooftops. His plasma lance glowed brighter than ever as he fired at fractures along Colossus' armored legs. Sparks erupted, causing the massive titan to stumble slightly.
Lyra lined up her sniper shot from a distant skyscraper. Her hands shook slightly as she adjusted for the massive distance and the Titan's unpredictable movements.
"Focus… focus… focus," she whispered.
Adrian Voss' Revelation
Far away, aboard the Architect fortress, Adrian Voss watched the battle unfold. He spoke to his officers with calm precision.
"The Titans were never meant to destroy humanity," he said, his voice chillingly serene. "They are a crucible. Through them, we will force evolution. Civilization as it exists now is weak, unworthy. Only through destruction can humanity ascend."
An officer gasped. "Sir… you mean—"
"Yes," Voss interrupted. "Those who survive this war will inherit a world forged by fire and steel. Those who fail… will not matter."
On the global display, additional Leviathans rose from the oceans, preparing to strike new continents. The Architects' plan was larger, more horrifying than anyone imagined.
Lyra's Critical Strike
"Kael," Lyra said over the comm, "now or never!"
Kael gave a quick nod. "Do it!"
Lyra's sniper rifle discharged a plasma-accelerated round. It streaked across the sky like a comet, striking the faint shimmer of Colossus' energy conduit.
Blue energy erupted violently from the Titan's back. Colossus screamed in a sound that rattled windows for miles. Sparks and arcs of energy splintered across its armor.
The Titan swayed, staggering for the first time.
Kael shouted to the Hunters: "Press the attack! Hit it while it's vulnerable!"
Missiles, lances, and concentrated fire rained down on the Titan. For a moment, humanity held the advantage.
Humanity's Darkest Hour
But then—more Abyss Leviathans appeared along the city outskirts. They moved like coordinated predators, cutting off escape routes and flattening fortifications.
Kael's comm buzzed urgently. "We can't hold them all. Evacuate civilians to the safe zones!"
Seren Vale fired a warning flare. "They're coming too fast!"
The city's population fled in terror, but hundreds of thousands were trapped between the Titans and collapsing infrastructure.
Kael gritted his teeth, glancing up at Colossus and Behemoth, now both towering over Eryndor's skyline.
Lyra's voice trembled. "Kael… there's more of them coming."
Kael activated his exosuit's thrusters, leaping toward a rooftop for better positioning. His rifle glowed with energy, ready to strike the next fracture.
He muttered quietly, almost to himself: "This… is humanity's darkest hour. And we either survive… or we end here."
The Titans roared in unison. The city shook. The Second Leviathan War had just reached a catastrophic tipping point.
