Chapter 7 - The Awakening of the Spirit

Kairos practiced through the night, his mind focused on mastering the Star Ruins Genetic energy. As morning broke, he headed to the jail cafeteria, his stomach growling.

As he sat down, he noticed a weird scent lingering in the air - like shadows had a smell. "Is it just me, or is something off?" Kairos thought to himself.

The food was bland, and Kairos wasn't impressed. "Bah, this is unsavory," he muttered.

A fellow inmate whispered, "Shh, Kia. You're sitting with the wrong crowd."

Kairos looked up to see a group of rough-looking men at the end of the cafeteria roll. One of them, with a deadly aura, caught his eye. "Is that an illusion?" Kairos wondered.

The group approached him, their leader saying, "Just be good, brat. We'll only break one leg... and maybe a few ribs."

Kairos stood up, his eyes narrowing. "Come on, all of you. And you," he pointed to a guy sitting at the back, "Viper."

Viper sneered, "You have to be qualified enough first."

The group attacked, but Kairos was too strong. He punched the first guy in the face, and the others quickly backed off, begging for mercy.

Viper's expression turned cold. "Good, that makes you a perfect prey. Come on, now."

The two engaged in a fierce hand-to-hand combat. Viper was strong, but Kairos refused to give up. He dodged and weaved, using the table to block Viper's knives.

As the fight intensified, Kairos' Spirituality activated, and his eyes turned ocean blue. He used his mental strength to deflect Viper's flying knives, sending them crashing to the ground.

Viper landed, stunned. "How did you...?"

Kairos was having a mental breakdown. This was the first time he'd used his Spirit ability, and he was overwhelmed. He fainted, dropping to the ground.

The police arrived, shouting, "Get down, all of you! Stay down! Get him to the infirmary, now!"

The scene shifted to Chief Dong's office. He was on a call with Su Lena. "These are the information and the video tapes about the incident. I heard the security guard was about to delete them. Thank you for bringing it here, Chief Dong said."

"Thank you for providing evidence, we will deal with him according to the law, Miss Su Lena." The call ended.

"Director, we got something from Viper. He said he was ordered by Huomin," a police guy said.

Chief Dong replied, "Okay, make some arrangements."

Kairos woke up, asking himself where he was. He got up from the bed and looked outside - it looked like a military sanitarium.

He noticed something unusual about himself - his eyes and ears were sharper now. He looked in the direction of the cubboard besides the bed. A pen was on it. He focused on it and lifted it up.

"I can control objects without waiting for anyone to touch them. Is this the rare Spirit energy the instructor mentioned?" he asked himself.

Whether it's Spirit energy or not, he would check it later. "Let me practice for a little while."

As he sat, he said to himself, "My head... " He entered a mysterious space.

"Where is this? Did I get into my subconsciousness? This is Spirit Star Ruin energy, and at the center... Is that the Star Ruin? It looks like it. It's probably the source of Spirit energy."

He gasped out as he came back to his consciousness. He opened his eyes, wondering, "Does this have to do with my recurring headaches? Maybe my current body condition can't stand that much energy."

Someone came into the room and said, "Hi, Mister Kia. Someone is waiting for you downstairs."

Kairos took his bath, saying to himself, "Hmm, got to train harder. Using that energy is helpful."

He wore his clothes and went downstairs. Waiting for him was Chief Dong.

"Ah, Mr. Kia, feeling much better?" Chief Dong asked.

"Yes, much better," Kia replied.

"Please sit. I am Chief Dong, the director of the detention center. This is the military sanitarium in the district. Mr. Kia, you can go home now," he said to Kia.

"I can go home? What about my warrior field test?"

"Don't worry about it. We got witness and testimony. We also checked the surveillance and looked at what happened."

"What about my dad?"

"He is doing good. He has left the hospital. He is alright now."

"And for the prisoner who tried to attack you... We tracked it to a local villain who ordered them to break a arm and leg of yours. His name is Huomin."

"I don't know him," Kia answered.

"We interrogated him, but he won't budge. He got lot of connections. We tried our best."

"Thanks, Chief. Am very grateful."

"Ahh, someone asked me to give you this... Ahh... Lena was here."

The scene shifted to Huomin's bar, where he sat with Zhuo Zhen.

"Alas, I didn't expect Viper was such an unreliable brat. It seems we have to find a real warrior next time," Zhen said, his voice laced with disappointment.

"Hmm, next time," Huomin replied, his expression unreadable.

"What? Viper sold us out. I pulled a lot of strings, but couldn't delete the surveillance video," Huomin said, a hint of frustration creeping into his voice.

"And Kia has already submitted the video to the investigation bureau. The video is a valid clue. How can this happen? I am doomed," Zhen said, his face falling.

Huomin leaned in, his voice low. "Zhen, did you think I sold you out?"

Zhen's eyes narrowed. "Did you?"

Huomin's expression turned serious. "Even if I zip my lips, they will find out sooner or later. Even your uncle couldn't cover you on this one. Go to your uncle and discuss this. He is more capable than you."

"We've been friends for a long time, Zhen. That's why I decided to tell you everything. Or else, you won't know what's coming your way if the investigation bureau finds out."

Zhen's eyes flashed with anger, but Huomin's words struck a chord. He knew Huomin was right. His uncle was his only hope now.

The scene shifted back to Director Dong's office. "Director Dong, could you tell me... the witness that testified for me... does this remind you of someone?"

The scene shifted to Zhen's uncle's house, Zhou Ming. Zhen was arguing with Viper, but his father intervened. "Enough, Zhen! This is a big deal. Do you have any idea?"

Zhen's uncle stood up, glancing at the street ahead. "Don't worry, brother. Zhen, you're grounded. Don't go out and make trouble."

"Yes, uncle," Zhen replied, his voice laced with frustration.

"Don't make any trouble again. Even if the investigation bureau comes, don't say anything. I will handle it. Only the strong get a say in this world. Kia is not even a warrior yet - a brat who hasn't tested the battlefield or fought monsters. If he dares mess with me, I will make him suffer."

Zhen's eyes narrowed, his anger simmering.
