Chapter 17 - Chains of Instinct

The night in Beacon Hills felt heavier than before.

Not because of darkness—

But because lines had been crossed.

Hunters had entered the game openly.

And now, nothing would stay hidden for long.

Inside Scott's house, silence lingered after Chris Argent left.

The tension hadn't faded.

It had settled.

Deep.

Uncomfortable.

Scott McCall leaned back against the couch, staring at the ceiling.

"…So I'm being hunted now."

Aiden, standing near the window, replied calmly—

"Not yet."

Scott turned his head.

"Not yet?!"

Aiden smirked slightly.

"If they wanted you dead, you wouldn't still be breathing."

Scott paused.

"…That's not comforting."

Aiden shrugged.

"It's the truth."

Scott sat up slowly.

His expression grew more serious.

"Then what do they want?"

Aiden turned toward him.

"To understand you."

A pause.

"And decide if you're a threat."

Scott swallowed.

"And if they decide I am?"

Aiden's eyes flickered faintly with hellfire.

"They won't get the chance to act."

Scott stared at him.

"…You're way too confident."

Aiden chuckled.

"I've earned it."

For a moment, silence returned.

Then Scott asked quietly—

"Why are you helping me?"

Aiden didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he looked out into the night again.

Because the real answer wasn't simple.

System mission.

Future knowledge.

Power scaling.

Or—

Something more human.

Finally, Aiden spoke.

"Because you're different."

Scott frowned.

"Different how?"

Aiden turned back to him.

"You don't want to be a monster."

Scott looked down.

"…Yeah."

Aiden nodded.

"That's exactly why you won't become one."

Scott didn't fully understand—

But those words grounded him.

Suddenly—

DING

A blue screen appeared in Aiden's vision.

Aiden's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Now that's interesting…"

Scott blinked.

"What is?"

Aiden waved it off.

"Nothing you need to worry about."

Scott crossed his arms.

"You do that a lot."

"What?"

"Say mysterious things and then refuse to explain."

Aiden grinned.

"It's part of my charm."

Scott rolled his eyes.

"Pretty sure it's just annoying."

Aiden stepped away from the window.

"Come on."

Scott blinked.

"Where are we going?"

Aiden's smile turned sharper.

"Training."

Scott groaned immediately.

"I JUST finished getting thrown into trees!"

"And now you'll learn not to get thrown."

"…I regret meeting you."

Forest – Midnight

The trees stood tall and silent.

But tonight—

The forest wasn't empty.

Aiden stopped in a clearing.

Scott followed, slightly nervous.

"I have a bad feeling about this."

Aiden turned.

"Good."

Scott frowned.

"That's not reassuring."

Aiden's expression shifted.

More serious now.

"No holding back tonight."

Scott blinked.

"What?"

Aiden's eyes glowed faintly.

"Your instincts are unstable because you keep resisting them."

Scott shook his head.

"I don't WANT to lose control!"

Aiden stepped closer.

"And you won't."

A pause.

"But you need to face it first."

Scott hesitated.

"…What do I do?"

Aiden pointed at him.

"Transform."

Scott froze.

"Here?!"

"Yes."

"I can't control it!"

"That's the point."

Scott took a deep breath.

His heart began to race again.

Faster.

Louder.

Stronger.

Then—

His eyes flashed yellow.

Fangs extended.

Claws formed.

Scott growled.

Low.

Unstable.

Aiden didn't move.

"Good."

Scott's breathing became heavier.

His instincts surged.

Predator.

Hunt.

Power.

His gaze locked onto Aiden.

And for a moment—

He lost himself.

With a sudden burst—

Scott lunged.

FAST.

Much faster than before.

But Aiden didn't dodge.

He caught Scott's arm mid-attack.

Effortlessly.

Scott struggled.

Growling louder.

Trying to break free.

Aiden's grip tightened slightly.

"Focus."

Scott didn't listen.

He attacked again—

Wild.

Uncontrolled.

Aiden moved this time.

A blur of motion.

He stepped behind Scott—

And pinned him down instantly.

Scott hit the ground hard.

Growling.

Fighting.

Aiden leaned slightly closer.

His voice dropped—

Cold.

Commanding.

"Control it."

Scott's body trembled.

His mind was chaos.

Voices.

Instincts.

Rage.

"I… can't…"

Aiden's eyes ignited.

Hellfire burned within them.

The temperature around them rose.

"Then I'll force you to."

A pulse of invisible pressure exploded outward—

Aiden's Hellhound aura.

Scott froze.

Completely.

His instincts—

Suppressed.

Not destroyed.

Not erased.

But controlled.

Scott's breathing slowed.

His eyes flickered—

Then returned to normal.

Silence.

Aiden stepped back.

"See?"

Scott lay there, stunned.

"…What did you just do?"

Aiden smirked slightly.

"Showed you the difference between power…"

A pause.

"And control."

Scott slowly sat up.

Still shaken.

"…That was insane."

Aiden shrugged.

"You'll get there."

Scott looked at his hands.

Then back at Aiden.

"…Will I really?"

Aiden met his gaze.

"Yeah."

A small smile formed.

"Because I won't let you fail."

For a moment—

Scott felt something shift.

Not fear.

Not confusion.

Trust.

And far away—

Hidden deep within the forest—

A pair of glowing red eyes watched everything.

Peter Hale

His grin widened slowly.

"Well…"

He whispered into the darkness.

"This just became far more interesting."

The hunt was evolving.

And so—

Was the pack.
