I remember watching a documentary on the Nature Channel about how elephants can't run because of their massive weight. That was a total LIE. They can run. They can run very fast. Or maybe I just found the one that didn't read the script.
"You oversized grassy bastard! Leave me alone! I was just passing by!"
Judging by the thunderous stomps behind me, this overgrown "Pokémon" wasn't buying it. It's that pink cat's fault. I swear, when I get back, I'm turning that Cattiva into shawarma.
Suddenly, the stomping slowed, but the breeze hitting my face turned into a hurricane. I heard a sound like a massive industrial AC unit cranking up. I glanced back.
Two giant cyclones were swirling around the "Green Elephant." A second later, they tore toward me.
"Crap!" I snatched the Rabbit Talisman and blurred diagonally, clearing the path of the attack. I watched trees and boulders get fed through an "aerial meat grinder" in slow motion.
"Nope! Not today!" I sprinted as far away from that Alpha Mammorest as possible.
I was tempted to use the Iron Man armor and fight, but it was Level 38. My blue spheres—even the green Mega Sphere I found in a chest—would have a catch rate of zero. Logic beat ego this time.
Exploration & The "Ethical" Grind
I reached the coast and activated another Teleport Monument.
Looking out at the sea, I saw rocks that weren't rocks at all—they were the bones of something roughly the size of a cruise ship. I really hope I don't have to catch that.
I moved onto a plain and spotted some targets: blue penguins, white foxes, and little brown "soil lumps" with acorn hats.
"Who's that Pokémon?" I joked, heading toward a blue penguin (Pengullet).
I slotted the Chun-Li card, blurred behind the poor bird, and delivered a double-palm strike to the head, followed by a kick that sent it flying. I tossed a Pal-sphere.
It broke out! The penguin looked at me with pure malice and conjured ice shards around its head. I used Flicker Step to close the gap, elbowed it, froze it in a block of ice, and bonked it with a second sphere.
[ Success! Pengullet Captured. ]
I spent the next hour clearing the field. I caught a Gumoss (the soil lump) and found a Large Common Egg.
Then, I heard a high-pitched buzzing. On top of a cliff, I saw a Lamball ten times larger than normal, surrounded by sparkling lights.
"A Shiny? No... a Lucky Pal."
I walked up to the giant sheep. It looked at me with a happy smile and waved its little paw.
I felt like a literal monster. I'm about to beat a friendly, waving sheep with a katana.
Sigh. "Sorry, buddy. Karma is a bitch."
I drew my nodachi and landed a cross-slash on its chest. The white fur turned red as it let out a pitiful bleat.
[ Skill: Fencing & Sword Mastery increased. ]
[ Level Up! ]
The Lamball tried the "Roll" attack. I dodged and landed another horizontal strike. I used a Mega Sphere. It broke out. I used an ordinary sphere. It broke out. Third time's the charm—it finally clicked.
It dropped an Ancient Technology Point. Turns out it had the "Dragon Breath" skill. Definitely worth the guilt.
Base Building & Automation
I returned to my base and started sorting. I assigned Pengullet to watering and Gumoss to planting. Base automation: successful.
The "Lucky" Lamball gave a +15% boost to construction speed. I also caught a Teafant (heals with "soapy water," apparently) and a Celaray (functions as a living glider).
I built a Statue of Power, a Quarry (where a Cattiva immediately started mining infinite stone), and a Logging Site.
This world is weird. Polymeric ruins, "post-apocalyptic" vibes, and infinite resources.
I unlocked the Hot Spring and decided to take a soak. "This is the life," I muttered, floating on my back.
Beep-beep-beep! My Pal-deck flared red.
[ RAID: A Fanfare of Passion! ]
[ Objective: Fend off the "Lustful Lizards." ]
[ Failure: You will be "assaulted." Death by Snu-Snu? ]
"What the actual hell?!" I scrambled out of the water, summoned the Mk. 2 armor, and rang the base bell to alert the Pals.
The "Snu-Snu" Raid
Six three-meter-tall pink lizards with massive hips and fur-lined "assets" (Lovanders) charged the base. They had hearts in their eyes.
I might be a "Hentai Protagonist" thanks to Tomo, but getting violated by lizard-monsters is where I draw the line!
I blasted two with repulsors. They gracefully flipped back onto their feet, licked their lips, and sprinted even faster.
My Pals were struggling. The Cattiva got sent flying, and the foxes were about to be crushed.
I used Ice Make to freeze their feet.
[ Skill: Ice Make Magic hit Level 20! ]
I blurred into the pack. A flurry of punches to the nose, an elbow to the jaw, and a repulsor blast in the gut.
One Lovander grabbed my Pengullet and started licking it while looking toward the bushes.
"Oh, hell no!" I flew in, kicked her in the chest, grabbed her by the legs, and slammed her into her friends. I froze the whole pile of them.
I had a choice: kill them or catch them.
"Let's see if they're useful." I threw 34 spheres before the last one finally stayed inside.
[ Quest: Passionate Fans Fended Off! ]
[ Reward: 500 XP, A Cake. ]
I got a literal Cake.
I sat on the ground, popped my faceplate, and looked at the carnage.
"At least something good came out of this," I sighed, eyeing the cake.
