Chapter 14 - The Price of Leaving

Sara thought leaving would bring silence.

She was wrong.

The city looked the same. The streets still breathed with quiet luxury. Cars still moved like shadows under golden lights. Buildings still stood tall, untouchable, distant.

But something had changed

Or maybe…

She had. The car that brought her back stopped in front of the Volkov mansion without a word. No driver explanation. No instructions.

Just arrival.

Sara stepped out slowly.

Her feet touched the ground, but the feeling wasn't the same.

She wasn't the same girl who left.

Because now she knew.

This wasn't a game. This wasn't attention. This wasn't even desire. This was a system.

A world built on control.

And she had just stepped into its core.

Inside the mansion, the lights were still on.

Waiting.

The moment she entered, she felt it.

Eyes.

Presence.

Alexander stood near the stairs.

Victor leaned against the far wall.

Daniel sat quietly, one leg crossed over the other.

Leonardo stood by the window, holding a glass, watching her reflection instead of her directly.

All of them were there.

Waiting.

For her.

Sara stopped at the center of the room.

Her heart didn't race this time.

It steadied.

"You went," Alexander said.

Not a question.

Sara met his eyes.

"Yes."

Silence followed.

Victor pushed himself off the wall.

"And?" he asked.

His tone was calm.

But there was something underneath it.

Something dangerous.

Sara didn't answer immediately.

She looked at each of them.

One by one.

And for the first time…

She saw them differently.

Not just powerful men.

But players.

In a game she hadn't agreed to join.

"He invited me," she said finally.

Daniel spoke without moving.

"He doesn't invite."

Sara looked at him.

"He did."

Leonardo chuckled softly.

"Then you should feel honored."

Sara ignored him.

"He told me something," she continued.

Victor stepped closer.

"What?"

Sara's voice didn't shake.

"He said… you don't know what you're dealing with."

Silence.

A heavy one.

Victor's jaw tightened slightly.

Daniel's gaze sharpened.

Leonardo's smile faded—just a little.

Alexander didn't move.

"What else?" he asked quietly.

Sara hesitated.

Not because she didn't want to say it.

But because saying it…

Would make it real.

"He said… I'm not the problem."

A pause.

"You are."

The tension in the room shifted instantly.

Victor laughed once.

Low.

Dangerous.

"Of course he did."

Daniel leaned forward slightly.

"He's trying to isolate you."

Sara frowned.

"From what?"

Leonardo answered this time.

"From us."

Sara looked at them.

"Why would he do that?"

Alexander finally stepped forward.

"Because if you start seeing clearly…"

A pause.

"You won't choose any of us."

That answer hit harder than expected.

Sara's eyes narrowed.

"Choose?" she repeated.

Victor stepped closer now.

Too close.

"This has always been about choice."

Sara shook her head.

"No. This has been about you."

Victor's expression didn't change.

"Same thing."

Sara stepped back slightly.

"No," she said.

Her voice stronger now.

"You made it about you."

Silence.

Real silence.

The kind that forces truth to surface.

Daniel stood up slowly.

"You're right."

Everyone looked at him.

He adjusted his sleeve calmly.

"We did."

Sara's breath slowed.

"Then stop."

Victor smiled again.

"No."

Sara looked at him.

"Why?"

Victor's eyes locked onto hers.

"Because I don't stop when I want something."

Leonardo added, almost casually:

"And neither do I."

Daniel didn't speak.

But his silence said enough.

Sara turned to Alexander.

"And you?"

A pause.

Longer than the others.

Then—

"I tried," he said quietly.

Sara's chest tightened slightly.

"Tried?"

Alexander looked at her.

"To keep you out of this."

A beat.

"But you didn't stay out."

That wasn't an accusation.

It was a fact.

Sara took a slow breath.

"Because none of you let me."

No one answered that.

Because no one could.

Sara stepped forward.

Closer to them.

Closer to the truth.

"Adrian gave me a choice," she said.

Victor scoffed.

"He doesn't give choices."

Sara didn't break eye contact.

"He did."

Daniel's voice came low.

"What kind?"

Sara hesitated.

Then—

"He said I can stay like this…"

A pause.

"Or become something you won't be able to control."

The room went still.

Not tense.

Still.

Leonardo's smile disappeared completely this time.

Daniel's expression hardened.

Victor's eyes darkened.

And Alexander…

Said nothing.

Because they all understood one thing.

Adrian wasn't playing the same game.

Sara looked at them.

"So tell me," she said.

Her voice calm.

Clear.

"What happens if I choose him?"

Victor moved first.

Fast.

He grabbed her wrist.

Not violently.

But firmly.

"You won't."

Sara didn't pull away.

"Why not?"

Victor leaned closer.

"Because you're smarter than that."

Sara held his gaze.

"Or maybe I'm just tired of being in a game I didn't start."

Victor's grip tightened slightly.

"That's not a game."

Sara's voice dropped.

"Then what is it?"

Victor didn't answer.

Because for the first time…

He didn't have a clean answer.

Daniel stepped in.

"Everything has a price."

Sara turned to him.

"And what's mine?"

Daniel's eyes didn't leave hers.

"You're about to find out."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

Sara slowly pulled her hand free from Victor.

This time…

He let her.

"I'm done reacting," she said.

Leonardo raised an eyebrow.

"Then what are you going to do?"

Sara looked at all of them.

And for the first time…

There was no confusion in her eyes.

No hesitation.

Only decision.

"I'm going to choose."

That word changed everything.

Victor straightened.

Daniel's attention sharpened.

Leonardo watched more carefully now.

Alexander…

Stayed still.

"Not tonight," Sara added.

A pause.

"But soon."

Victor smirked.

"I'll be waiting."

Daniel nodded once.

"So will I."

Leonardo smiled again, slower this time.

"This just got interesting."

Sara turned.

And walked toward the stairs.

But before she disappeared—

Alexander's voice stopped her.

"Sara."

She paused.

Didn't turn.

"Whatever you choose…"

A pause.

"Make sure it's yours."

Sara closed her eyes for a second.

Then continued walking.

Upstairs, alone again…

She stood in front of the mirror.

But this time…

She didn't see the same girl.

She saw someone standing at the edge of something dangerous.

Something powerful.

Something irreversible.

And deep inside…

A question began to grow.

What if Adrian was right?

What if this wasn't about surviving their world…

But becoming something greater than it?🔥

Adrian stepped into the light…

"Now," he said quietly,

"the real game begins."
