Chapter 18 - Ch 17: First Sparks of Intelligence

Chapter 17: First Sparks of Intelligence

With Soul Power now properly spread across the planet, Alicia began noticing small changes in behavior.

At first, they were easy to miss.

A beast pausing before taking a risky path.

A group of humans moving together instead of separately.

A creature returning to the same safe area instead of wandering at random.

Small things.

But they added up.

Alicia focused on the humans first.

Several groups had begun staying near rivers and plains for longer periods instead of constantly moving. They were also starting to imitate each other more intentionally.

One human picked up a stone after seeing another use it to crack something open.

Another followed a simple hand signal to avoid a nearby beast.

Nothing advanced.

But definitely progress.

Alicia watched quietly.

"…That's new."

The system appeared.

Ding!

[Observation Update: Primitive Race Development Initiated]

She shifted her focus to the forest.

There, a small silver fox was doing something unexpectedly clever.

It had hidden part of its food under leaves and loose soil, then returned later after other animals had moved on.

Alicia paused.

"…Okay."

That was not random instinct anymore.

That was memory.

Planning.

The interesting part was what happened next.

A few nearby creatures began copying the behavior in simpler ways—hiding food, storing useful things, avoiding certain areas after seeing danger there once.

The ecosystem was beginning to influence itself.

Alicia found that far more exciting than she expected.

Not because it was dramatic.

But because it meant her world was no longer just surviving.

It was learning.

The humans were doing the same in their own way.

Some had begun signaling more clearly to each other.

Some stayed in loose groups while gathering.

Some even started watching the behavior of beasts to avoid danger.

Alicia remained thoughtful.

"…So this is how it starts."

Not with some grand awakening.

Just small decisions.

Repeated enough times to become intelligence.

She liked that.

It felt natural.

And more importantly—it felt earned.
