Sairis's POV
"This is insane," Sairis muttered under his breath as he turned the corner.
He slowed his steps, his eyes scanning the hallway carefully. It was quiet. Too quiet. The kind of silence that made every small sound feel louder than it should. He stopped for a moment, listening. Nothing. No footsteps. No voices.
He sighed softly. "This is also a very bad idea," he added softly, almost like he was trying to convince himself to turn back.
But he did not.
He moved quickly instead. When he was sure no one was watching, he slipped into the room and shut the door behind him at once, his hand pressing against the wood for a second as if to steady himself.
It would not go well with him or any intruder, caught sneaking into the queen's private study. His eyes moved around immediately, scanning the room.
The room was empty as expected and there were no guards around the place or hallway.
He frowned. "No guards?" he whispered. "For a place like this?"
