Chapter 3 - Not Again

The world was stopped at the breathtaking figure of that eternal light.

She looked at him.

Emil's heart skipped a beat.

"I'm sorry, if only I had been a little faster."

Emil didn't listen to a single thing she said; he was astounded by the beauty. Her face looked as if it had been carved from the white marble that reflects everything and is flawless. It nearly reflected all the moonlight that was upon them. He tried to look the other way for a moment, but was pulled again by her soothing, breathy voice, like it was only meant for him.

"No, you don't have to be, I...I am glad that you came." He tried to speak.

His heart was racing just standing in front of her. He felt so small compared to her.

CLICK

He moved towards the sound, and so did the Angelic beauty.

Emily was running towards him, clearly limping, trying hard to put one foot after the other. While running, sometimes a yelp escaped her mouth.

The Moon girl, standing on the abomination, saw this and disappeared.

In a flash, she brought his sister close to him.

Emil's attention shifted. Now, he could see his sister.

Her eyes were swollen. Tears were flowing down her cheeks.

He shifted his gaze.

His sister moved forward. She lifted her hands.

Emil also thought that he needed someone to embrace right now. No matter if they were saved, there was something broken inside him that needed to be healed.

As he moved forward to embrace her, she slapped him across the face.

He spat some blood.

Truth to be told, he actually saw that she was going to slap him, but he didn't move.

'I deserved that...but damn, has she always been this strong?'

The stranger was taken aback by that, too.

"Dumbass, don't you ever do that to me again?" she spat. Her voice was hoarse and cranky.

He looked at her, then smiled.

She lifted her hands again, and Emil flinched.

But this time she hugged him. She was trying too hard to be seen as tough.

She started crying. Embracing her, Emil did the only thing he could. He held her for as long as possible, holding his own storm inside.

After a few minutes, they went back to normal.

and were now facing the girl who had saved them. Even

It seemed that, finally, the severity of the situation had hit them. A happy family of four was now in shambles. Both of them were just staring at the girl. Their eyes were empty. Lips were devoid of any kind of moisture. Eyes swollen, blood loss, and whatnot.

The ethereal girl gazed in their direction for a few moments.

Something in her expression shifted.

Something quieter… heavier.

"I am… sorry."

Her voice was softer this time. Not meant to soothe—but to end something.

Emil frowned slightly.

There was something wrong.

The air felt… still.

Even the night, which had moments ago been filled with screams and chaos, now felt distant—as if the world itself had taken a step back.

"What… are you—"

He didn't get to finish.

Her eyes met his.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then—

The world tilted.

Not physically. Not truly.

But something inside him… slipped.

His thoughts slowed, like they were sinking into deep water. The fear, the pain, the noise inside his head—it all began to fade.

Beside him, Emily staggered.

"Emil… I… feel…"

Her voice dissolved before it could finish.

He tried to move.

His body didn't listen.

Tried to look away.

He couldn't.

Those eyes—

They weren't just looking at him.

They were pulling him.

Dragging him somewhere quiet. Somewhere empty.

And for a brief, terrifying second…

He didn't even want to resist.

His knees gave out.

Darkness crept in from the edges of his vision.

The last thing he saw—

Was her expression.

Regret.

Then everything was shrouded in darkness.

A tall man, nearly 6 feet in stature, with glasses, was looking at a patient whose side of the brain had a severe injury. Doctor Turner was looking at the vitals of the patient, who seemed out of danger.

"Where am I?" The patient opened his eyes and was feeling dizzy.

Doctor Turner was taken aback a little bit.

"Oh!...Um...Hey...Emil?" The doctor tried to calm himself down.

"Who are you?" The boy asked him with his dreadful voice.

The doctor frowned.

"Hmmm...Interesting...It seems that the charm of the young lady has already worn off. Oh...by the way, I am Doctor Tim Burner. You are in a special medical facility." Dr. Burner said while curiously looking at the kind.

"Why, ...what happened?" The boy, while not able to ask, tried to inquire.

"It seems that you don't remember, maybe the effect of the accident that happened."

"No, I do remember what happened."

Dr. Burner's eyes widened. In his entire life, he had never heard that kind of response. Watching him, shocked, Emil continued while trying to sit up.

"It's just I want to know why we are here. I thought that the girl wanted to kill us."

"That is quite a memory you have, considering that you had the brain injury of that level. And as for the girl, she was there to save you. You and your sister had lost quite a lot of blood, so she didn't have any time to explain who she was. Why was she there? and other questions you might have asked her."

At the mention of his sister, Emil became a little restless and tried to get out of bed. But Dr. Turner put his hand on the shoulder and stopped him.

"You are not in the condition to move...right now, I would advise you to take some rest. As for your sister, she is out of danger too, but it's going to take a day or two before she wakes up." Doctor Turner tried to calm him down.

Emil looked at him; somehow, the doctor's eyes seemed to tell the truth. But how could a brother who has lost everyone in his family in an instant have been satisfied with just that?

"It seems that you don't trust me yet. Wait, let me show you then."

Dr. Turner turned towards a TV monitor and turned it on.

"Take a look at this." Dr. Turner pointed at the screen.

On the monitor screen, he saw a room similar to this one, where a female doctor was checking a patient's vitals. The patient was lying on the bed, with a restless frown on her face. Emily was there...alive.

'Thank god...I would've never forgiven myself...it's fine...we're ok.'

"Wait, what...is...that?"Dr. Tuner shivered.

Emil first tried to understand what the doctor was mumbling about. Then he saw it on the screen. From the elevator on the floor on which his sister was an abomination had appeared.

"No, this can't be, not again."
