Chapter 4 - Madness

"His eyes!"

"Why are they suddenly like that?"

The crowd was visibly shaken; the fear they had felt suddenly returned. Leonard looked at them. His eyes, which were normally brown, had changed to white, while the sclera—the white of the eye—was now completely black. Leonard's strange eyes reflected the crowd's panicked expressions.

"Die!" Leonard said in a hoarse voice.

Hearing his words, the crowd panicked. They all knew one thing for certain: Leonard had the intention to kill. Once this was realized, the crowd didn't try to play heroes and avenge their fallen comrades. They all started to run, pushing anyone who got in their way.

'I have to run!'

A youth watching what was happening quickened his pace and tried to navigate his way around the people. But at that moment, he felt something cold touch his neck. His hair stood on end and his pupils dilated; fear struck his heart. Without even looking, he knew who it was.

"Please let me go," he muttered in a low, frightened voice. Fear had taken hold of him; his limbs were shaking intensely.

"No," Leonard replied with a wide grin on his face. His voice sounded amused, somehow. He placed his hand at the front of the youth's neck.

'Nails.'

Looking at Leonard's fingers, the youth noticed that Leonard had long black nails which he previously didn't have. Before he knew what happened, Leonard pierced his neck with his nails. Blood fell like a fountain. There was a large hole in his neck where flesh was supposed to be. He made strange noises, but soon stopped. He fell to the ground.

Dead.

The running crowd saw this, and fear tightened their hearts even more; the urge to escape intensified.

'Crazy.'

Leonard had truly lost it. After all, he killed with a smile on his face.

There was a couple a distance away from him. Leonard glanced at them, then charged at them with explosive speed. With inhuman speed, he was where the couple stood.

"Please st—"

Before the lady could finish her sentence, Leonard's fingernails slashed her neck, then slashed her face, and he kicked her in the stomach, sending her flying.

"Sarah!!" the man shouted, wanting to check on his girlfriend. But how could Leonard let that happen? Before he could make sense of what occurred, Leonard had slashed his stomach multiple times, then left, leaving the two to die on their own.

The area was soon filled with blood and mangled corpses everywhere. Leonard stood above a middle-aged man he was finished killing. Looking at the unsightly sight, Leonard didn't feel any disgust. He felt pity and sorrow, but this wasn't aimed at the people he killed.

"HA, HA, HA!" he laughed loudly in a deranged tone. With blood all over his face, his blonde hair was now dyed red.

"Is this freedom? If I had known this, I would have killed them long ago."

The sense of not having to worry about his every move, not having to care about the people... at this moment, he felt at peace. He felt pity and sorrow that he had not done this already; he felt so at peace killing the people.

"Madam, it's here," a man in a suit said. He had short black hair and seemed to be in his forties.

"Okay, I'll handle the matter," a lady in a black dress replied. She had long black hair and sharp brown eyes.

They could see blood everywhere. A distance away, the stench of corpses was strong. She walked toward where the blood was. Walking closer, she saw more corpses; most were mangled and unrecognizable. On top of a corpse, a creature was seen. It was covered in blood, making it hard to see its skin. It had what seemed to be white pupils, and the white of its eyes was black. Its nails were long and sharp, painted the color red. Its mouth was open, saliva dripping; it had sharp, pointy fangs that looked as if they could tear the toughest flesh, also painted red.

'Why is he smiling?' they both wondered.

***

Leonard had a smile on his face. Murder, at this moment, felt so satisfying.

'The color red is so beautiful.'

At this moment, Leonard's ears—which were now longer and pointed—picked up a sound.

'A person.'

Looking at where the sound came from, he saw a man with black hair in a suit and a woman wearing a black dress. She had long black hair and sharp, piercing brown eyes. Both of their concentrations were focused on Leonard.

"Welcome," Leonard said. His tone was hoarse; it sounded like a fork scratching a plate.

"Glad to be here," the lady replied, then extended her arm. "Also, try giving me your thanks."

"Thanks for what?" Leonard asked, while tilting his head slightly.

"For putting you out of your misery," the lady said. Her voice sounded sincere. The man behind her just looked around.

Leonard looked at her curiously. "Misery? You?" he said, then added in a calm voice, "How are you going to put me out of my misery?"

The lady looked at him, then said confidently in a calm voice, "By ending your life, of course."

"Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!"

Upon hearing her words, Leonard laughed loudly, as if he had heard the funniest joke of his life. The lady didn't seem offended by his laugh. Abruptly, white sparkles of light gathered on her hand. The light wasn't too bright. The sparkles danced around gracefully, like ballerinas moving on a stage. They intertwined with each other, stacked on top of each other, forming the shape of what looked like a long, thin sword. The white sparkles soon faded, revealing a long, thin sword of the purest white.

Seeing the scene play out, Leonard's eyes widened in shock. This was the first time he had seen such a scene, but he knew what was happening and also knew the girl's origins.

'That's a Class!'
