Chapter 24 - Run

No one noticed it at first.

Not the sound.

Not the shift in the air.

Not the moment everything changed.

We were too focused on the screen.

On the truth.

On the past.

That was our mistake.

"Why show us this now?" Noah asked.

His voice echoed slightly in the empty classroom.

"Because now you understand," he replied.

But something about his tone…

Was off.

Like he was listening to something else.

Something we couldn't hear.

"You said I had to be stopped," I said.

"By who?"

Silence.

Then—

A noise.

Subtle.

But wrong.

A metallic click.

Behind the door.

Everyone froze.

"Did you hear that?" Emily whispered.

No one answered.

Because we all did.

Another sound.

Closer.

Footsteps.

Not one.

Several.

My heart started racing.

"That's not normal," Noah said.

"No," I replied.

"It's not."

He looked at the door.

And for the first time…

He looked nervous.

"They're early," he muttered.

That was enough.

"What do you mean 'they'?" I snapped.

Too late.

The door handle moved.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

"Don't open it," Emily said quickly.

But no one moved.

Because none of us were near it.

Click.

The door opened.

Three men stood there.

Not students.

Not teachers.

Something else.

Dark clothes.

Cold expressions.

Watching.

Studying.

"Step away from the computer," one of them said.

My chest tightened.

"Who are you?" Noah asked.

No answer.

"Now."

The tone changed.

Harder.

Controlled.

Dangerous.

"They're not here to talk," he said quietly.

I looked at him.

"You knew this would happen."

A pause.

Then—

"Yes."

Anger exploded inside me.

"You brought us here—"

"I warned you," he cut in.

"That's not a warning!"

"Move," one of the men said again.

This time louder.

Emily grabbed my arm.

"Lucas…"

I didn't move.

I couldn't.

Because something inside me…

Refused.

"No," I said.

Silence.

The man stepped forward.

"Last chance."

My heart was pounding.

Fast.

Loud.

Wrong.

"They're here for that," he said, pointing at the computer.

"And for you."

"For me?" I said.

"Yes."

Everything slowed.

Because suddenly…

It wasn't just danger.

It was personal.

"Why?" I asked.

No answer.

Of course.

They weren't going to explain.

They were going to act.

And then—

Everything exploded.

One of them moved.

Fast.

Too fast.

Toward the desk.

Toward the flash drive.

"NO!" I shouted.

I lunged forward.

Grabbed the laptop.

Pulled it back.

The man reached for me—

But someone hit him.

Hard.

Ryan.

The impact echoed through the room.

Everything turned chaos.

Noah grabbed a chair—

Swung it.

It crashed into another man's shoulder.

Emily screamed.

"Stop!"

But no one was stopping.

This wasn't about control anymore.

This was survival.

One of them grabbed my arm—

Tight.

Pain shot through me.

"Let go!" I snapped.

He didn't.

He pulled—

Trying to drag me away.

From the computer.

From the truth.

"No!" I shouted again.

And then—

A crash.

The screen fell.

The laptop hit the ground.

Hard.

Static.

Gone.

"RUN!" he shouted.

That was all it took.

We moved.

Instinct.

Fear.

Adrenaline.

We ran.

Out of the classroom.

Into the hallway.

Students screamed.

Chaos spread instantly.

"What's happening?!" someone yelled.

Doesn't matter.

We didn't stop.

"THIS WAY!" Noah shouted.

We turned the corner.

Fast.

Footsteps behind us.

Still coming.

"They're following us!" Emily cried.

Of course they were.

We knew too much.

We saw too much.

And now—

There was no going back.

"Where do we go?!" she asked.

No one answered.

Because no place felt safe anymore.

Not school.

Not home.

Not anywhere.

"They won't stop," he said.

I looked at him while running.

"Then what do we do?!"

His expression darkened.

And then—

"We disappear."

Everything hit at once.

Fear.

Truth.

Reality.

Because now…

This wasn't just about uncovering something.

This was about surviving it.

And behind us—

They were still coming.

🖤 Poem — Lucas

we chased the truth

with blinded eyes

but truth fights back

it never lies

and now we run

from what we found

because some secrets…

will hunt you down
