Chapter 7 - When you Forgot me

The day Noah forgot her was the day Emma stopped breathing — at least, that's how it felt.

The accident happened on a rainy evening. A truck lost control. Metal crashed. Glass shattered.

When Noah opened his eyes in the hospital, the first thing he saw was a white ceiling.

The second thing he saw was Emma.

She rushed to his side, tears streaming down her face.

"You're okay… thank God."

Noah looked at her politely.

"I'm sorry," he said softly. "Do I know you?"

Her world fell silent.

The doctor later confirmed it — partial amnesia.

Noah remembered his childhood. His friends. His work.

But he didn't remember the last three years.

He didn't remember falling in love.

He didn't remember Emma.

Emma tried to stay strong.

"It's okay," she told him with a trembling smile. "We can take it slow."

She showed him photos on her phone — birthdays, trips to the beach, late-night selfies.

Noah studied them like they were someone else's memories.

"You look happy," he said gently.

"We were," Emma replied.

Days turned into weeks.

Emma visited every afternoon. She told him stories about how they met in a small bookstore, how he once waited outside her house in the rain just to apologize after an argument.

Noah listened carefully.

Sometimes he laughed at the stories.

Sometimes he stared at her like he was trying to see something just out of reach.

But nothing returned.

One evening, Emma overheard Noah talking to his sister.

"I feel bad," he admitted quietly. "She loves me. I can see it in her eyes. But when I look at her… I feel nothing. It's like reading a book without emotion."

Emma stepped back before they saw her.

That night, she made a decision.

The next day, she came to the hospital with a calm face.

"I think I should stop coming for a while," she said softly.

Noah looked surprised. "Why?"

"Because I don't want you to feel pressured," she answered. "If you ever remember me… come find me. If not… I'll be grateful for the love we once had."

She placed something on his bedside table.

A small silver ring.

Not an engagement ring.

Just a simple promise ring they had bought together.

And then she walked away.

Months passed.

Emma tried to rebuild her life. She avoided the places they used to visit. She deleted his number but never blocked it.

Then one autumn afternoon, someone knocked on her door.

When she opened it, Noah stood there.

Holding the silver ring.

Her heart pounded.

"I still don't remember everything," he said honestly.

"But I remember how I feel when I'm with you."

Emma's eyes filled with tears.

"You feel guilty?" she asked.

"No," he shook his head.

"I feel calm. Safe. Like I'm home."

He took a step closer.

"Maybe I lost my memories," he whispered.

"But I think my heart remembered what my mind forgot."

Emma smiled through her tears.

"Then let's fall in love again," she said softly.

This time, there were no old memories.

No past promises.

Just two people choosing each other — not because of history, but because of feeling.

Sometimes love isn't about remembering the past.

Sometimes it's about choosing the same person, even after you forget.
