Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 – Eldoria

This city is called Eldoria.

A sanctuary of over a million people—one of humanity's last remaining strongholds.

From above, it would look like a glowing island of life surrounded by darkness. A place where people could still laugh, still live, still hope.

All because of one thing.

The Aegis Dome.

A massive mana barrier that covered the entire city.

Invisible to the naked eye most of the time—but always there.

Always protecting.

It stretched across the sky like a second atmosphere, bending light slightly when observed from certain angles. At night, when mana fluctuations were strong, faint ripples could sometimes be seen—like waves moving across an unseen ocean.

It repelled dimensional intrusions.

Prevented large-scale Rift formations.

Held back the horrors that tried to break through.

Because of it—

People inside the city could sleep at night.

But not everywhere was equally safe.

Outside the central districts, near the edges of the barrier—

Lay the Outskirts.

The Aegis Dome grew weaker there.

Thinner.

Less stable.

And because of that—

Rifts appeared more frequently.

Unstable tears in reality.

They could open anywhere.

At any time.

No warning.

No pattern.

One moment, the street would be normal.

The next—

Reality itself would split open.

And from within—

Monsters would emerge.

And beyond that…

Far beyond the Outskirts—

Were the Deadlands.

A place where the Aegis Dome no longer reached.

A place abandoned long ago.

Ruined cities. Broken roads. Collapsed structures swallowed by time.

Everything left behind.

Everything lost.

No government.

No protection.

No order.

Only monsters.

Long ago, humanity tried to defend those lands.

They sent armies.

Elite units.

Awakeners.

All of them believing they could reclaim what was lost.

They failed.

Countless soldiers died.

Entire cities vanished from the map.

Communication lines disappeared overnight.

What once were strongholds—

Turned into graves.

In the end—

It wasn't strength that saved humanity.

It wasn't power.

It was intelligence.

Scientists came together.

Pooling everything they had.

Knowledge. Technology. Mana research.

And after years of failure, sacrifice, and desperation—

They created it.

The Aegis Dome.

One of the greatest inventions in human history.

A barrier not just of mana—

But of survival.

And because of it…

Eldoria still stands.

I stood silently in front of the mirror.

For a moment—

I couldn't move.

Something felt… wrong.

Or maybe—

Different.

It was like…

I had become younger.

The face staring back at me—

Was unfamiliar.

Yet—

Undeniably mine.

Clean.

Well-defined.

Smooth, fair skin without blemishes.

Everything looked…

Refined.

My nose was straight and proportionate.

My ears neatly shaped, sitting naturally at the sides of my head.

No imperfections.

No rough edges.

My hair was dark.

Mostly black.

But when the light hit it just right—

Faint bluish tones shimmered through it.

Subtle.

Almost unnoticeable—

But there.

Giving it a slightly… unnatural feel.

My expression was calm.

Too calm.

I didn't look like someone who had just gone through everything I had.

Didn't look like someone who had nearly died.

I took a step back.

Studying my full reflection.

My shoulders looked broader.

My posture—straighter.

My body felt… balanced.

"…What happened to me?"

I tilted my head slightly.

Trying to process it.

Trying to understand.

I looked taller than I remembered.

Not by much.

But enough to notice.

"About… five-six?" I muttered under my breath.

The number didn't feel exact.

But close enough.

Still—

The proportions felt right.

Like everything had adjusted itself.

Optimized.

I stared at my hands.

Opened them.

Closed them.

There was strength there.

Not overwhelming—

But controlled.

After a moment—

I exhaled slowly.

Whatever had changed—

It wasn't something I could understand right now.

So I stopped trying.

After eating, I quietly left a note on the table.

The pen felt light in my hand.

The words came out simple.

Ma, ate… eat well.

I already earned some money.

I'm going out to buy medicine.

I paused after writing.

Staring at the note.

Somehow…

It felt different.

Not just the situation.

Not just my body.

But me.

It was like something inside me had shifted.

Something subtle—

But undeniable.

Like I had suddenly matured overnight.

My thoughts felt clearer.

More organized.

More… distant.

"…Weird."

I didn't know if it was because of the fight.

Or the Aether.

Or something else entirely.

But I couldn't deny it.

I wasn't the same as before.

Without thinking too much about it—

I placed the note on the table.

Then turned and walked toward the door.

I grabbed my things.

Adjusted my posture slightly.

Then stepped outside.

The door closed behind me with a soft click.

The air outside felt different.

Lighter.

Sharper.

The world moved as it always had.

People walking.

Voices echoing in the distance.

Life continuing.

But to me—

Everything felt clearer.

Like I was seeing it all for the first time.

And just like that—

Without hesitation—

Without turning back—

I walked forward.

Into the world of Eldoria.
