The long-awaited Monday morning finally arrived. The city was still asleep, wrapped in a soft, magical blanket of mist. For the 12th-grade science students, today felt completely different. Usually, waking up early was a struggle, but today, some invisible magic had pulled everyone out of bed long before dawn.
Aryan's routine was completely flipped today. On a normal day, his eyes might flutter open around 7:30 AM, but he wouldn't actually drag himself out of bed until 8:00. Today, however, he was up before his alarm even went off. His heart was buzzing with a strange excitement. Megha was up early too. Both of them were busy carefully packing their bags. Aryan made sure he had his biology practical notebook, instrument box, a few essential pens, and a notepad. He didn't forget the dry snacks his mother had packed, nor his water bottle. Leaving behind the daily monotony and the heavy pressure of studies, even putting on the familiar school uniform felt thrilling today.
A completely different scene unfolded at the school gate. Instead of the usual sleepy, tired faces, every student was beaming with excitement. Divided into small groups, friends were laughing and chatting loudly. Right in the middle stood their favorite Biology teacher, Mr. Sen, along with a co-teacher, Miss Roy.
Mr. Sen raised his voice slightly, "Alright everyone, do you have everything? Practical boxes, notebooks, water bottles?"
The students eagerly nodded in unison.
Smiling, Mr. Sen said, "Get ready, everyone. I just called the driver; the bus is almost here."
Through the crowded chatter, Aryan noticed Megha waving at him. Pushing through the crowd, he walked up to her. Looking a bit anxious, she asked softly, "Hey, did you pack everything properly?"
Aryan nodded confidently, "Yeah, got it all. You?"
Megha smiled sweetly, "Yes. But listen, make sure you save a seat for me on the bus. We're sitting together."
Aryan smirked, "Obviously. Just make sure you get on the bus quickly."
Just then, a large bus pulled up to the school gates. Instantly, a scramble began as everyone rushed to get on. Aryan hurried inside and strategically claimed a double seat by the window. Soon after, another boy from their class tried to sit next to him, but Aryan blocked him, saying, "Sorry bro, no room here. This seat is taken." The boy walked away with a frown, and a moment later, Megha arrived, letting out a sigh of relief as she took the seat beside him. Aryan laughed, "Good thing you hurried; it was getting tough to hold the fort."
After doing a quick headcount and making sure everyone was settled, Mr. Sen nodded to the driver. "Alright, let's go."
The bus slowly rolled past the school gates and onto the main road. The morning sky wasn't entirely clear yet; a soft reddish glow was just beginning to bloom in the east. The bus cut through the sleeping city, heading toward their destination. Cool, refreshing morning air rushed in through the open windows.
Aryan raised his voice a bit to ask Mr. Sen, who was sitting near the front, "Sir, how long until we get there?"
Mr. Sen turned around with a smile, "If the roads stay clear, we should be there in about two hours."
After a while, the initial excitement inside the bus began to settle. Lulled by the cold morning breeze and the rhythmic swaying of the bus, many students started to doze off. A strange, peaceful silence filled the air. Right then, Aryan felt a soft weight on his shoulder. Megha had gently rested her head against him. Her eyes were closed in peace, and the wild breeze from the window blew a few strands of her hair across Aryan's cheek. Surrounded by the beautiful morning and Megha's quiet presence, a deep, soothing calmness washed over Aryan's heart. The bus continued on its steady rhythm, carrying them toward their thrilling, unknown destination.
